No. of bitstreams: 1 MAURICIO_BOZZI_TONETTO_DIS.pdf: 11028220 bytes, checksum: b91adfbf59990ccc0dddb5784615505b (MD5) Previous issue date: 2018-03-28 / Coordena??o de Aperfei?oamento de Pessoal de N?vel Superior - CAPES / Through a study of the Brazilian Free Movement (MBL) in the post-impeachment of Dilma Rousseff, this dissertation analyzes political activism in virtual social networks ? cyberactivism. The MBL was notable in 2015 and 2016 for commanding protests that took millions of people to the streets and influenced the fall of the Workers? Party (PT) of the Presidency of the Republic. The main objectives of this work are to understand how cyberactivism becomes institutionalized in politics, how the group acts after impeachment and how Brazilian cyberactivism has moved from guerrilla to industrialization with MBL. A total of 102 publications of the fanpage of the movement on Facebook are analyzed in three periods of 2017: in the two accusations of Justice against the President of the Republic, Michel Temer, for corruption and other crimes; and the acquittal of Senator A?cio Neves of the PSDB by his parliamentary colleagues who rejected a decision of the Federal Supreme Court (STF) that had removed him from the National Congress for attempting to obstruct Justice in Operation Lava Jato. The method applied was Discursive Textual Analysis, which resulted in metatexts that synthesize the core of the cyberactivism practiced by MBL. We discussed the transformations of cyberspace, the characteristics of the new networked society, virtual social networks and the rise of cyberactivism, as well as topics such as filter bubbles, obscure algorithms, fake news and internet monopoly. Ciberativism, which emerges in tune with the ideal of independence and freedom sought by the creators of the internet, is also an instrument for the propagation of hatred, manipulation and lies, and for the intensification of radicalisms, thus occupying a central role in cyberculture studies and social movements.

Tassi, Stelamaris de Paula Menezes 25 March 2011 (has links)
Made available in DSpace on 2015-04-14T14:41:24Z (GMT).

In this dissertation, under the light of a sociofunctionalist approach (TAVARES, 2003; 2013; GORSKI; TAVARES, 2013), I analyze 378 data of pronouns tu and voc? extracted from 12 conversations belonging to Natal Conversational Data Base (CUNHA, 2010). I have the following objectives: (i) mapping linguistic and extralinguistic specialization trends of second person singular subject pronouns tu and voc? in the speech of Natal (RN); (ii) assessing the role of the principle of persistence (HOPPER, 1991) as a possible motivating factor of specialization trends of pronouns tu and voc?; (iii) identify in which of the six pronouns subsystems proposed by Scherre et al. (2009) is situated the speech community of Natal portrayed in this study. In order to achieve the proposed objectives, I submitted the data to multivariate statistical analysis, which have provided frequencies and relative weights.I obtained, as relevant factor groups, according to the statistical analysis, the nature of the relationship between the interlocutors (if the relationship is asymmetric, less intimate, and more formal, the use of voc? is favored; if the relationship is symmetrical, intimate and informal, the use of tu is favored); the degree of formality of the environment in which the conversation takes place (in more informal environments tu was favored; in more formal environments voc? were favored); and the type of discourse (reported / not reported) (tu was favored in not reported discourse and voc? was favored in reported discourse). Based on results regarding to these factors groups, I organized a panorama of specializations of pronouns tu and voc?, noting that tu seems specialized for more informal contexts of use than those for which voc? seems specialized. The motivation underlying these trends of specialization may be the principle of persistence, since along its historical development, voc? carries a trace of greater formality or, at least, less intimacy, when contrasted to tu. Finally, I concluded that, of the six pronoun subsystems proposed by Scherre et al. (2009), the speech community of Natal can be framed in the fifth, characterized by variable use of subject pronouns tu and voc?, with more frequent use of voc? than tu, and rare occurrence of agreement of tu with second-person singular verb.

This dissertation is a study of the behavior of verbs of utterance (VU) in natural conversation. The goal is to analyze the configuration of these verbs to investigate how this type of verb and its arguments are manifested in real language usage. The research focuses the morphosyntactic, semantic and pragmatic characteristics of the external and internal arguments of VU. Therefore, I examine i) the syntactic-semantic relationship of these arguments with the VU, ii) the level of integration between the matrix sentence and the reported speech (introduced by a VU), iii) the factors that determine the selection and arrangement of the internal argument, iv) if there is a preference for certain types of argument structure over others, v) if the direct object is new or old information, and vi) if the object occurs on the figure or background portion of the text. The VU are considered by Munro (1982, apud FURTADO DA CUNHA, 2006) unique in syntax as they differ from typical transitive verbs as well as typical intransitive verbs. This feature alone has motivated several studies about the behavior of this verb; however, much of the knowledge produced is not based on spontaneous speech data. Hence, the justification for the development of this study, which aims to analyze the configuration of VU based on utterances produced in spontaneous situations of language usage. This work is grounded on theoretical and methodological principles of Lingu?stica Funcional Centrada no Uso - Usage-based Theory, in English - (FURTADO DA CUNHA et al., 2013; MARTELOTTA, 2011; BYBEE, 2010), which argues for the analysis of language in use, that is, in spontaneous communicative situations. Therefore, this approach takes into account that the communicative situation directly affects the language. The database is Banco Conversacional de Natal (FURTADO DA CUNHA, 2011), which is a sample of natural speech. Since it examines actual data of spontaneous speech, this research allows observe how speech verbs and their arguments are used by speakers engaged in communicative interactions.

Conversational competence in english as a second language : a study of pragmatic markers

Corsetti, Cristiane Ruzicki 08 January 2015 (has links)
Made available in DSpace on 2015-04-14T13:39:29Z (GMT). No. of bitstreams: 1 466239.pdf: 2683021 bytes, checksum: dda0bf8225e2d205c6459bc2e3ebb85f (MD5) Previous issue date: 2015-01-08 / Conversation is one of the most fundamental activities in verbal communication. When people engage in conversational exchanges, they transmit information, perform actions, establish and maintain social relationships, among other acts. Conversation is often unplanned, takes place in real time and involves reciprocity. This thesis presents the foundations of Discourse Analysis, Pragmatics and Conversation Analysis and details discourse, pragmatic and interactional phenomena which seem to be intertwined during face-to-face conversations. It then focuses on the second language learner by addressing Interlanguage Pragmatics and by critically revisiting communicative competence frameworks and definitions of conversational competence. It justifies and proposes a conversational competence model in L2 within a pragmatic domain, comprising three facets: the management of discourse, the negotiation of illocutionary meaning and the deployment of conversational practices. It includes corpus-based investigations of pragmatic markers which are prototypical of the proposed facets of conversational competence. A small specialised corpus of Brazilian learners? oral production at CEFR B1 had been previously built for the purposes of this thesis. Spoken sub-corpora derived from The BNC Sampler and The Diachronic Corpus of Present-Day Spoken English were selected as British English benchmark corpora. The empirical chapters of this thesis examined the most common discourse marking adverbs used to mediate segments of discourse in conversations, the most common explicit and implicit adverbial hedges used to mitigate representative speech acts and the most common minimal response tokens used to express good listenership. The pragmatic markers chosen for investigation were well , really , actually , maybe , probably , just , yeah and uhuh . It was concluded that the subjects of this study would benefit from pedagogical assistance for the acquisition of discourse markers in general, for the pragmatic functions of the adjuster just and for more varied forms to express good listenership. The markers really and yeah were employed, in their discourse and pragmatic functions, with adequate relative frequencies by the Brazilian learners. The adverb maybe was overused, signalling a tendency to use adverbial forms to express epistemic stance instead of modal verbs. Subcorpora orais oriundos do The BNC Sampler e The Diachronic Corpus of Present-Day Spoken English foram empregados como corpora de refer?ncia de ingl?s brit?nico. As investiga??es enfocaram os marcadores pragm?ticos well, really, actually, maybe, probably, just, yeah e uhuh.

Lima, Lucia Chaves de Oliveira 30 September 2013 (has links)
Made available in DSpace on 2014-12-17T15:07:07Z (GMT). No. of bitstreams: 1 LuciaCOL_DISSERT.pdf: 2407860 bytes, checksum: 1974836925bfb675a7a46c5b5871e2f6 (MD5) Previous issue date: 2013-09-30 / This work investigates the phenomenon of transitivity in the conversation. We examined the behavior of complements in Brazilian Portuguese speech, and then compared the results with previous researches in the English language by Thompson and Hopper (2001) and in the Spanish language by V?zques (2004). In Brazil, there are no researches that treat this phenomenon in the discursive conversation, for that reason it justifies and reveals the importance of this research that aims to answer questions related to the transitivity of ordinary conversations. Thus, we describe, explain and analize the transitivity based on concrete linguistic data, provided by native speakers of Portuguese language, specifically, spontaneous talk of people from Natal-RN. We have used as theoretical assumptions the Functional Linguistics usage-based (LFCU), which gathers academics of North-American Functional Linguistics, inspired by Chafe (1979), Hopper and Thompson (1980), Thompson and Hopper (2001), Giv?n (2001), Bybee (2010), Traugott (2009, 2011), among others, as well as Cognitive Linguistics, presented by Langacker (1987), Taylor (1995), Tomasello (1998) and Goldberg(1995), among others. This data consists in conversations extracted from the corpus Banco Conversacional de Natal (FURTADO DA CUNHA). The results obtained from this work confirm the assertions defined by prior conducted studies on the transitivity in the conversation. The research showed that these three idioms, Spanish, Portuguese and English, despite the differences, they present a uniform behavior regarding their transitivity in the conversation. We intend, by this work, to contribute, in some way, to the comprehension of the focused linguistic phenomenon, likewise to build a finer scenario around of the transitivity in the Brasilian Portuguese / Este trabalho investiga o fen?meno da transitividade na conversa??o.
