Exploring barriers to effective youth curriculum implementation in the Trans-Orange Conference of the Seventh Day Adventist Church / Justice Mavanyisi Mongwe

Mongwe, Justice Mavanyisi January 2014 (has links)
This research sought to establish the hindrances/barriers to the effective implementation of the Adventist youth ministry curriculum in the congregations of the Trans-Orange Conference. The theological and Biblical foundations that underpin the church’s youth ministry and its curriculum ought to provide the church with a cutting edge in its youth ministry, and ought to assist tremendously in achieving the major twin goals of its youth ministry, i.e. salvation and service. Its detailed curriculum that is guided by the insights of developmental psychology is divided into four main age-specific levels: Adventurers, Pathfinder, Ambassadors and senior youth. Beyond the spiritual emphasis and soteriological intent, the participant youth should also benefit from leadership and community service development. The value of the curriculum, however, is only realised when it is implemented among the intended recipients; the youth of the church. Interviews with the youth ministry leaders from the various districts of the Trans-Orange Conference revealed a bleak picture of low levels of curriculum implementation. Expressed barriers to curriculum implementation and a low prevalence of progressive classes included: Low prevalence of qualified Master Guides and youth leaders; difficulties in accessing resources for use in curriculum implementation; unbalanced emphasis on physical activities at the expense of the rest of the curriculum content; lack of parental support; as well as priority issues emanating from church elders and leaders. It is very clear that the current praxis prevailing in the Trans-Orange Conference is not yielding the desired outcomes with regard to the delivery of the youth ministry curriculum. Given the status quo as manifested above, it becomes imperative that new ways of praxis be explored and be implemented to effect a situation turnaround. By revisiting the problem areas as expressed in the interviews, and seeking alternative approaches to youth ministry and curriculum implementation in the territory under investigation, a new model needs to be developed that must increase the prevalence of trained and qualified youth ministry personnel, that must increase the prevalence of progressive classes, and that increases levels of resource accessibility for congregational youth ministry curriculum providers and the youth in general. Furthermore, parents need to be trained and supported to enable them to be effective in assisting meeting the goals of the youth ministry as reflected in the curriculum, while all relevant leaders should also be assisted to reach a balance in the implementation of the curriculum and to assign appropriate priority to the programming and budgetary provisions for the youth ministry. / PhD (Pastoral Studies), North-West University, Potchefstroom Campus, 2014

Maladaptive Schemas as a Predictor of Residential Treatment Outcomes in Females with Eating Disorders

Cullum, Jodi Leigh 01 May 2009 (has links)
The present study aimed to examine the relationship between maladaptive schemas and treatment outcomes of adolescent and adult women with an eating disorder receiving residential treatment. Existing data were obtained from 67 females aged 11 to 47 years (m =18.61) that had entered residential treatment for anorexia nervosa (AN), bulimia nervosa (BN), or eating disorder not otherwise specified (EDNOS) at a Western United States residential eating disorder treatment facility. Pre- and posttreatment data were collected by the personnel at the facility on eating disorder symptomatology, mood, and core beliefs. Three hypotheses were tested: (a) that maladaptive schemas would be positively correlated with eating disorder symptom severity, (b) that females endorsing more maladaptive schemas at admission or those with stable maladaptive schemas across their course of treatment would have less favorable posttreatment outcomes at the time of their discharge from residential treatment than females with lower scores initially or improved scores over the course of their treatment and follow-up, and (c) that females endorsing more maladaptive schemas or with greater stability of their maladaptive schemas across treatment will spend more time in residential treatment. To address the above hypotheses a series of hierarchical linear regressions, linear mixed-effects models, and Cox proportional-hazards regressions were conducted. Results ndicated that maladaptive schemas at the start of treatment were predominantly predictive of admit rather than discharge symptomatology. Different combinations of maladaptive schemas were found to have both positive and negative relationships to one's symtomatology across time. The most common maladaptive schemas found to be significantly associated with symptomatology were impaired limits, impaired autonomy and performance, and overvigilance and inhibition. Lastly, a relationship existed between both impaired limits and overvigilance and inhibition and a participant's length of stay in treatment. The results of this study suggest that maladaptive schemas provide some predictability of treatment outcomes and are important targets for psychological interventions aimed at recovery. Furthermore, the results of the study highlight the complexity associated with maladaptive schemas in females with eating disorders and the need for longitudinal research to examine common patterns and therapeutic targets based on diagnosis and status in treatment.

A LEADERSHIP PERSPECTIVE ON FAMILY ENGAGEMENT: QUALITATIVE CONTENT ANALYSIS OF SECONDARY DATA

Anderson, Stephanie 01 January 2019 (has links)
The purpose of the study was to explore the leadership actions and activities that contributed to the implementation of a schoolwide family engagement initiative in a school. A qualitative content analysis of secondary data design was used to investigate the intentional actions and activities of a school leadership team during the implementation of a family engagement initiative within an elementary school. The Coherence Framework (Fullan & Quinn, 2016) provided a lens for which to investigate schoolwide change across drivers and sub-drivers. The findings of this study describe intentional leadership actions and activities when communicating with families, conducting formal assessments, and facilitating professional development. Patterns from the analysis indicate school leaders engage in intentional leadership actions and activities across all drivers and sub-drivers within the Coherence Framework (Fullan & Quinn, 2016). Family engagement practices are driven by core beliefs and consideration of the establishment of collective efficacy within the Coherence Framework may better support implementation of school change within family engagement implementation.

Patirtų negatyvių situacijų, depresiškumo ir įsitikinimų (pagal kognityvinę - elgesio teoriją) sąsajos su nuteistų vyrų tyčiniu savęs žalojimu / The links of experienced negative situations, depressiveness and beliefs (according to cognitive - behaviour theory) with convicted men’s deliberate self-harm

Jakutonytė, Jolanta 03 June 2013 (has links)
[toliau žr. visą tekstą] / The number of scientific researches about deliberate self-harm that are associated with the risk of suicide among incarcerated persons is not plentiful. The results of scientific researches in foreign countries about the associations of deliberate self-harm with negative situations and depressiveness among incarcerated persons are not unambiguous. Therefore it might be important more stable personality factors such as core beliefs for the deliberate self- harm of incarcerated persons. Research aim. The aim of the study was to identify the links of experienced negative situations, depressiveness and core beliefs (according to cognitive-behaviour theory) with convicted men’s deliberated self-harm. Research participants. The research included 168 convicted men in Pravieniskes Correction House-Open Prison Colony. The average age of research participants is 29,39. Research methodology. The data was gathered using psychological assessment methods: Deliberate Self-Harm Inventory-short version (DSHI-s), Cognitive Triad Inventory (CTI), The Center for Epidemiologic Studies Depression Scale (CES-D), Negative Situations in Prison Scale. Also was asked about sociodemographic, criminogenic factors and self - harm behaviour in the past. Research conclusions. The convicted men who deliberately self-harmed have more negative core beliefs about themselves, the world and the future than convicted men who do not deliberately self-harmed. The more negative core beliefs about the... [to full text]

Nevládní neziskové organizace jako externí "dodavatelé" sociální politiky ve státech, kde neexistuje vlastní sociální politika / Non-Government Organizations as external "suppliers" of social policy in states where is not social policy of their own

Yaklyushyna, Oleksandra January 2020 (has links)
The effectiveness of development cooperation is currently widely discussed. Development cooperation has come to be criticized, both in terms of its appropriateness and for failing to address some of the global challenges that affect poorer nations. Respecting the differences of developing countries, therefore, plays an important role. It is a question of whether developed countries are aware of cultural and other differences and are proceeding in their help concerning these differences. The problem that the thesis wants to draw attention to is the functionality of development cooperation, which can be influenced by various actors and their beliefs. The main goal is to try to explain, using the theory named Advocacy Coalition Framework, how the beliefs of actors can affect development cooperation. One of the other partial goals is to find out whether and how advocacy coalitions are formed in the field of development cooperation. The contribution of the work is mainly the critical application of the ACF theory in the field of development cooperation in the environment of the Republic of Kenya, as well as the application of the Q method in the research of the perspectives of selected actors. According to the author, the work can also have other benefits such as providing a new perspective on the issue of...

Regularizace nelegální migrace jako proces tvorby veřejných politik / Regularization of Illegal Migration as a Policy-making Process

Dumont, Anna January 2012 (has links)
'Regularization of Illegal Migration as a Policy-making Process' deals with the social problem of having a high number of irregular migrants in the Czech Republic and regularization as a tool that could help reduce it. Regularization is seen as a political process theoretically described by using the Advocacy Coalition Framework. This thesis tries to find normative definitions of the two coalitions, which hold different beliefs and two different points of view rather than describe the problem. The work is partly designed as a case study in which the theory is applied to the issue of regularization in part there is also an explanation of regularization as well as the Advocacy Coalition Framework. The thesis defines the two coalitions within the subsystem - the for-regularization and anti-regularization coalitions. Each coalition has its deep core and policy core beliefs that determine the relationship to the topic as well as the relationship between the coalitions themselves. In conclusion, the author summarized the information about the coalitions and their belief in three comparative tables where one can confront their approaches. The last part also contains a chapter on The Changes of Beliefs and Policies, where there is an introduction of two policies: the system of voluntary return and that...

Gebruik van Beck se kognitiewe terapie by sekondêre skoolleerders met subkliniese depressie / The use of Beck's cognitive therapy for secondary school learners with subclinical depression

Davel, Jaqualine Cecile Flower 30 June 2002 (has links)
From a literature study and empirical research which was undertaken, it seems that 15-40% of all adolescents experience subclinical depression. Changes and increasing pressure and demands, typical of the adolescent phase, causes many adolescents to experience depressing emotions. In spite of these circumstances there are also many adolescents who go through this phase in development without any significant problems. Aaron Beck is of opinion that it is not the circumstances in and of itself that lead to depression but rather the meaning that individuals attached to these circumstances. Beck mentions that depressive people are inclined to irrational beliefs, erroneous information-processing and dysfunctional automatic thoughts. To address this problem, six adolescents who experience subclinical depression, were subjected to Beck's cognitive therapy. The primary target of Beck's therapy is the correction of above mentioned dysfunctional cognitions. The conclusion is that when the dysfunctional cognitions of adolescents who experience subclinical depression can be corrected, their depressive feelings will diminish. / Educational Studies / M. Ed.
