Raul Pompéia: jornalismo e prosa poética / Raul Pompéia: journalism and poetic prose

Regina Lúcia de Araújo 13 July 2006 (has links)
The main objective of this work is to compare the creation of a hybrid and new genre - the poetic prose -, by Raul Pompéia, related to journalism and literature at the end of the XIX century. This research analyses the poetic prose written by Raul Pompéia, by selecting texts as its corpus, published in the periodic \"A Gazeta da Tarde\", from January 21st to January 29th, 1986. At the same time we have compared the equivalent texts published on book for the first time in 1900, also discussing the other texts which form the whole group.

Bounds on the effective theory of gravity in models of particle physics and cosmology

Atkins, Michael January 2013 (has links)
The effective theory of gravity coupled to matter represents a fully consistent low energy theory of quantum gravity coupled to the known particles and forces of the standard model. In recent years this framework has been extensively used to make physical predictions of phenomena in high energy physics and cosmology. In this thesis we use theoretical tools and experimental data to place constraints on various popular models which utilise this framework. We speciffically derive unitarity bounds in grand unified theories, models of low scale quantum gravity, models with extra dimensions and models of Higgs inflation. We also derive a bound on the size of the Higgs boson's non-minimal coupling to gravity. This represents an important area of research because it helps us to better understand the theories and models that many physicists are currently working on and crucially it can inform us where we can reliably use the effective theory approach and where it breaks down.

The Shajarat Al-Kawn attributed to Ibn ʻArabī : an analytical study

Alibhai, Shams January 1990 (has links)
The present study aims to understand the subject matter of the Shajarat al-Kawn. In the two earlier studies of this text--both translations, the first in English and the second in French with extensive notes--the translators approach the text with specific preconceptions which influence the translations and analyses. In contrast, our approach is to focus on the persons, events and images within the text and thereby to reveal the salient issues and themes. In the analysis we are led to question the authorship of the text, specific details reveal that it may not be by Ibn 'Arabi In spite of this problem, the description of the archetypal figures Muhammad and Iblis--which has elements resembling the description of the same figures by Mansur al-Hallaj and 'Ayn al-Qudat al-Hamadhani-leads us to believe that the Shajarat al-Kawn makes an important contribution toward understanding some of the riddles on how these complex figures are viewed.

No. of bitstreams: 1 Mirtes Amaral Domingos Ribeiro.pdf: 908788 bytes, checksum: c924c1916c1b05769288ef57dc2b151b (MD5) Previous issue date: 2006-08-07 / Fundo Mackenzie de Pesquisa / This research intended to enable us to deepen our knowledge of the identity of the Adventist being. The general objective of this work was to organize a field of knowledge related to the Seventh-day Adventist Church, through its health standard which is a reflex of its cosmogony, aiming to the depth of the Adventist identity. To this end, it describes the rising of the church among the social reform and American religious revivals of the eighteen century. Introduces Ellen G. White, the charismatic character accept by the emerging group as having the Gift of Prophecy, co-founder of the church and defender of a peculiar health standard, based on her explicit visions. Health is discussed within the Adventist cosmogony: its therapeutic values and theological basis; compared to the holistic standard defended by Capra to the Adventist White s standard. Finally, the analysis was based on the anthropological theory of illness, by François Laplantine, answering the questions related the identity of being Adventist which is recognized by a number of health related advises, that guide not only the practical life, but also the religious life of its followers. Such guidelines form the Adventist religiosity, together with the eminent religious elements which base the daily behavior of the individuals. This work was built on bibliographic research enclosing the areas of health, religion, sociology and anthropology, through which were studied the concept of health, illness and cosmogony.

Bibliography Islam & biological evolution exploring classical Sunni sources and methodologies

Jalajel, David Solomon January 2010 (has links)
Magister Artium - MA / This research investigates, within the framework of classical Sunni Islamic scholarship, what we might expect an Islamic opinion about evolution to be,bringing together an accurate and detailed understanding of evolutionary biology as the field stands today with a systematic consideration of the traditional Islamic sciences. The scope of the study encompasses the scholarly traditions recognized, at least by their respective adherents, to be part of Muslim orthodoxy – referred to in Islamic discourse as Ahl al-Sunnah wa al-Jamāʿah or more colloquially as “Sunni”. It covers the works of the scholars of the Ashʿarī, Māturīdī, and Salafī theological schools as well as the sources which they all draw upon – the Qur’ān, the Sunnah, and the opinions of the Salaf. The reason for this choice is that these traditions represent for most Muslims the “mainstream” of Islamic thinking, and therefore have a greater relevance for determining what a general Islamic perspective on evolution could be.The study first identifies and defines the methodological approaches of classical Sunni scholarship that have relevance to the question of an Islamic position on biological evolution. It also identifies and defines the issues within the field of Evolutionary Biology that need to be brought under scrutiny. The methods of classical Islamic Theology are then applied to the claims of Evolutionary Biology, drawing on traditional Islamic sources. The result of the study is an extrapolation of what an orthodox Islamic position towards biological evolution could be. Is Islam neutral towards the idea of biological evolution? Does it support it or categorically reject it? Can it accept certain aspects of Evolutionary Biology while rejecting others? Finally, the extrapolated “classical” Islamic position on evolution is compared with the writings of some contemporary Muslim scholars whose views run contrary to that extrapolation. Possible reasons for the discrepancy are explored.Such an interdisciplinary work should provide a valuable frame of reference for a more accurate analysis of the creation-evolution debate unfolding in the Muslim world today.
