Key success factors : The internationalisation of Swedish fashion companies

Lind, Stefan, Knudsen, Jerry January 2008 (has links)
Background: The Swedish fashion market today quickly becomes too small, even for the new companies, and they are quick to take the step abroad and launch their internationalisation process. With a focus on the four Swed-ish fashion companies Filippa K, Acne Jeans, Nudie Jeans and Whyred, we have analysed how these representatives of the industry have interna-tionalised themselves. The companies have chosen different ways to promote their brand and how to control the perceived image of the brand. As there is a lack of earlier in-depth studies into this particular question of the Swedish Fashion industry, we have set out to investigate how this is done. Purpose: The purpose of the thesis is to look at the internationalisation process of Swedish fashion companies, with a focus on the growth and the penetra-tion of the international markets in order to determine the key success factors for successful international expansion. We will also investigate to what extent branding, country of origin (COO) and psychic distance to geographical markets has an influence on the internationalisation process and its success. Method: We used a qualitative approach and conducted a case study consisting of four Swedish fashion companies. The data have been collected through interviews and secondary sources. The information has been put into dif-ferent models for internationalisation, branding and key success factors. Conclusion: We have interpreted the collected data together with the theories used, thereafter drawn the conclusions that the key Success factors that have taken these firms so far and have been important in the building of the successful brands/companies, are in fact to a large degree COO, rela-tions in the Swedish fashion Industry and the creation of superior prod-ucts. The companies have both similar and specific factors for their suc-cess on the international market.

Identidade de marca-país: comunicação da marca Brasil nos Estados Unidos da América / Country Brand Identity: Communication of the Brazil Brand in the United States of America

Fabiana Gondim Mariutti 28 March 2012 (has links)
The tourism market is booming in the globalized, diversified and internationally competitive business market, with rapid growth expected for this decade. Considering that the country brand is the image and perception of the brand associations of a nation as seen by foreigners, it is often found in the following spheres: economic, political, social, academic, fashion, sport, movies, and finally, in tourism. In this multidimensional context, Brazil requires studies on its own concept of country of origin, and especially, strengthening its brand identity. According to literature, it appears that there are few studies about the Brazil´s Country Brand focused on encouraging businesses and specifically for tourism in a target country. Therefore, this study was developed to analyze the Brazil Brand identity based on the convergence of communication strategies defined by Embratur for the tourism sector with those effectively used by travel agencies in the United States of America. The United States of America were chosen because it is the second-highest spender on tourism worldwide, and it was the second-highest sender of tourists to Brazil in the last seven years, with a gradual decrease since. This research was qualitative and exploratory, based on the literature review and in-depth interviews with three samples: Embratur, twenty agencies/tour operators in North America and a group of three experts. Based on the qualitative data collected, the content analysis was performed by triangulation. Regarding its original theme, the research focuses on the implementation of the concept of brand identity for a country brand, specifically, the Brazil Brand, slightly overlapping the field of international marketing in order to promote Brazil as an attractive tourist destination. After four defined and analyzed propositions, the conclusion is that Brazil has an incomplete brand relationship and conceptual differences with the theory, whose concept states that brand identity should be settled on the strategic vision of the brand. Embratur understands a theoretically-distorted version, which was not experienced in the respondents\' answers. Therefore, the central identity of the Brazil Brand, which should be the soul of the brand, corresponds only partially to the image desired by Embratur, featuring only the diversity attribute. Furthermore, the expanded identity, whose dimensional elements of the brand identity are organized into four perspectives, provided no texture or integrity to Brazil´s Country Brand. However, Brazil´s brand provides associations with the visual representation itself, with characteristics from the Brazilian culture, tourist destinations, products, services, and the media. In this way, one of the contribution of this investigation is to move forward to research lines about country branding, specifically about Brazil Brand; regarding not only strategies actions in special economy sectors, for its positioning, for its communication and for its growth in the international market. Each experience with Brazil Brand, throughout diversified contacts offers associations with Brazil´s both reputation and image.

In order to do so, initially were presented concepts that support the understanding of the topic, as country brand, country brand identity, country image, place branding, destination brand and country of origin; following the case study, built from bibliographical, documentary and field research evidences, was presented. The case description and its interpretation in the light of process stages and phases can be found in Chapter 4. The impact assessment of the international image was conducted by content analysis of articles which contained the word Colombia in the title, in the newspapers The New York Times and El País, employing the software Atlas/TI. An index image was developed and its shows an improvement of 81.57% in the country image during the period that Colombia es Pasión was active, however, it was not possible to draw a causal link between the image improvement and the nation branding initiative. The economic impact of the program was evaluated by econometric models that considers the three target variables of the program: exports, tourism and foreign direct investment. The econometric analysis suggests that the program had positive economic impacts on exports and on the number of foreign tourists. The overall result of these two variables is, on average, equivalent to 1.28% of GDP in 2011. However, the most significant impact is on the dependent variables, taken as the program target. The effect of the program, on average, corresponds to 16.73% of exports and 13.63% of the number of foreign tourists in the year preceding the start of the program internationals actions, that is 2005.

Cama Casafranca, Melissa Erika, Olivares Espinoza, Lucía Del Carmen 08 October 2021 (has links)
This paper focuses on the analysis of the reframing strategies (Baker, 2006) and the text functions (Nord, 2010) of the news translated from Spanish to English by the Agencia Peruana de Noticias Andina (Peruvian News Agency Andina), a government news agency. This media platform uses translation to expand the readership towards foreigners potentially interested in visiting and investing in Peru (Andina, 2016). The study is based on a bilingual corpus of news articles published in the economics and tourism sections during the year 2019. The contrastive text analysis composed of 114 news articles showed how Andina reframes the translations to adapt them into a new sociocultural context, reflecting the discourse of the Peru brand. Results show that Andina used Baker’s reframing strategies (2006) to recontextualize events which had impact on Peruvian economy; a “patriotic” discourse that highlights the government’s achievements, addressed to the Peruvian readership; and information related to Peruvian tourist attractions. The changes in the text functions reconfigured the text type focus of the translated news into tourism genre. / Tesis
