This paper discusses the relationship between chronic and politics during the First Republic, centering their attention on the serie of chronicles the Far-niente and Cantando e Rindo by journalist and poet Aloísio de Carvalho, published in the Jornal de Notícias between 1891-1916. Acting in the Bahian press for almost thirty years, especially through its nickname Lulu Parola, Aloisio de Carvalho became known to posterity by mild comments made for the purpose of fun and away from political interests. This paper proposes to revisit this interpretation based on the concepts of humor republican disillusionment and political engagement, especially during the rise of seabrismo and implementation of Scouting in Bahia.
