Landscape as metaphor: artist as metaphier

Briggs, Susan H. January 2002 (has links)
This research records a three year journey of exploration through the visual arts, specifically painting and drawing in relation to the landscape. The written work presented here provides a support document to my final exhibition of paintings that were exhibited in the John Curtin Gallery at Curtin University of Technology from November 24th - December 15th 2002.The writing of this exegesis is in itself a creative piece, but it is not the same as the visual research that culminates in the paintings. I am convinced that to talk about creating art actually leads one away from being in the experiencing of that art, hence this writing discusses the processes involved and not the finished work. My primary objective within this exegesis is to present a discussion centred around some of the philosophical issues that became visible whilst carrying out my practical work. This discussion is also about process itself in art making practices and research, hence this exegesis is intended to run as a parallel to the visual body of work as presented in the final exhibition of works held in the John Curtin Gallery.I have intentionally used my own practice as a device to question the choices and outcomes of art making generally in an effort to add a little colour to the larger discourse of creative practices. Some of the writing may seem personal (apart from the journal notes) and again, this is an intentional device in order to bring about a sense of embodiment within the writing itself and a way of mirroring the processes within the paintings.

Abstract

The purpose of this investigation is to find out how the pupils can discover and to feel joy in their creative art activity and also to believe in their own ability. The aim is to figure out if creative art activity is able to raise the pupil’s self-image. By literature, pedagogue interviews, and interviews with pupils at the age of ten years old and by action research is the way that I have searched for an answer for my question. The main result is that fantasy, creativity, courage and lust are important parts to develop in the job of raising the self-image. The literature and the result of the interviews are unit and points at the feeling to succeed are decisive. As a pedagogue you have to create an allowing environment, give the pupil praise that is concrete and to have an attitude that means to be confident in the subject to teach.

Sato, Mariana Eri 29 July 2014 (has links)
Este estudo revelou que a arte é potente em estimular percepções sensitivas capazes de produzir sentidos éticos mediados pela dialógica racional, necessários para o cuidado conforme enfatizado pela humanização / Humanization has been indicating that there is a crisis in the health practices interactions. To overcome this crisis, several strategies have been proposed and the use of creative art as a resource for health humanization actions is becoming more often. The imposed distance into the relations that are established between health professionals and patients could be a scientific method requirement that is based on an analysis that claims to be systematic, objective and impartial. According to Gadamer, the artistic experience would be powerful in revealing that, beyond methodological reason, there are other legitimate ways of providing knowledge to humans. Would creative art be proposing to health professionals that there are another ways to interact with people? This study aimed to understand the potential contributions of art activities for the humanization of care at the health services. We constructed a theoretical framework in order to illuminate the relationship between art and humanization of health practices and we studded the activities that were linked to a humanization project (\"Acolher\") of a Family Health Unity at the perspective of its agents that acquired its senses through art. The \"Acolher\" project consisted in mobilizing professionals to transform the ambience of the waiting room and to perform artistic interventions. Semi-structured interviews were conducted to investigate the meanings that were constructed by the participants about the project. The empirical study concluded that the artistic experience could be able to promote: a waiting room symbolic change to the professionals, the transformation of attitudes of professionals and even the qualification of the interactions between them and the patients. It was concluded that art could be a powerful resource to mobilize people in order to promote favorable changes to humanize health practices

Porozumění rekonstrukci tradiční porcelánové kultury v čínských městech založené na příkladu moderního porcelánového průmyslu v Ťing-te-če-nu / Understanding the reconstruction of traditional porcelain culture in Urban China- Based on modern porcelain industry in Jingdezhen

Liu, Yang January 2021 (has links)
My dissertation examines the interaction between transformation, development of traditional culture and modern one under the background of China's rapid modernization. Its focus is on the porcelain craftsmanship culture from the famous "porcelain capital", Jingdezhen. Although the relationship between the traditional and the modern has always been widely concerned and discussed in academia, especially in sociology and anthropology. Yet, it should be noted that in existing literature we rarely investigate the reconstruction and re-creation of traditional craftsmanship culture that has been taken for granted in former socialist countries where the spread of modernization into social development came much later than its Western counterparts. This research begins to fill the gap by extending an art anthropological and contextualized perspective on what endows the traditional craftsmanship culture with a multitude of modern values in Jingdezhen, and with what structural driving forces. It showcases that what endows the traditional porcelain industry in Jingdezhen with numerous modern characteristics are the adaptation of individualized traditional craftsmanship to modern technological society; the happy marriage of humanizing traditional craftsmanship with mass tourism, and a successful cross-border...
