Transition de spin thermo- et photo-induite dans de nouveaux systèmes discrets, polynucléaires et polymériques / Thermal and photo-induced spin crossover in discrets, polynuclear and polymeric new systems

Milin, Eric 14 December 2015 (has links)
In recent years, Spin Crossover materials [SCO) with thermal or Iight induced bistability are extensively studied because of their futur potential applications in memory display devices. In this context, the aim of this work is the synthesis of bistable new spin crossover systems based on Fe(ll). Two strategies were used: the first one is to increase the intramolecular interactions by substituting the counter-ion nature in a spin crossover system, the second one is to associate a neutral ligand to a bridging polydentate co-ligand.In rhe ffrst part, the modification of the counter-ion enabled us to obtain a discrete mononuclear system based on macrocycle ligand with thermal bistability. The second discrete system is a dinuclear complex based on tmpa (triimethylpyridyl amine) which led us to study ligand substitution effects of the Spin Cross-Over behaviour. In rhe second part, the aim is the synthesis of extended structures systems by using rigid anionic bridging ligands like tetracyanometallate anions [M[CN)4]2-and the organic ligand quinolin-8-amine. This association allowed to obtain 1D chains with abrupt spin crossover presenting hysteresis. Finally, to synthesise SCO 2D and 3D systems, we have associated the potentially bridging 4-[2pyridyl)-t,2,4,4H-triazole (trz-pyJ ligand to inorganic bridging anions tcpd²- and [Pt[CN)4]²-. The [Fe[trzpy)2(Pt[CN)4]].3H20 system obtained is as Hofmann-like 2D network with novel magnetic and photomagnetic properties with hidden hysteresis revealed by photo-switching.

Gränsöverskridande föreställningar : En analys av dansperformance utifrån tre exempel

Eriksson, Anna January 2006 (has links)

The essay is an effort to examine and define three examples of liminal dance performances through an aesthetic, hermeneutic and semiotic analysis. The examples are three dance or liminal performances, made by three different choreographers and performed at “Moderna Dansteatern” and “Dansens Hus” in Stockholm during September and October 2005. In the effort to determine the liminal and cross-over in the performances, the analysis focus on aspects such as: the character of the work, choreography, the use of scenery, stage light, requisites, conception of place and interior room, the use of costume and mask, the use of different media as text, pictures, film, and music or not using any these, and the interaction with the audience. The analysis depends on a historical background and the use of literature in the subject. The result of the analysis is that these cross-over performances are very different in character of these aspects and aesthetic form. The definition of dance and performance is, in itself, liminal and difficult to determine.

Genetic Engineering of Lactobacillus casei for Surface Displaying the Green Fluorescent Protein: An Effort towards Monitoring the Survival and Fate of Probiotic Bacteria in the Gastrointestinal Tract Environment

Chan, Colin H. L. 28 February 2014 (has links)
With the introduction of antibiotics in animal feed becoming less popular, the agricultural industry has begun a shift towards the use of probiotics in animal feed. Since there is no current method to evaluate the risks of using genetically modified probiotics in animal feed. The goal of this project was to create a genetically modified model organism for risk assessment. The genetic marker for that was chosen was GFP that was to be expressed on the surface of the cell. The fluorescent properties allow for visualisation of the genetically modified bacteria and the surface expression would allow for the easy capture and recovery of the bacteria for culturing and cell counts. Genome wide screens were performed using the CW PRED algorithm to locate proteins with LPXTG motif for cell wall anchoring. 16 hypothetical proteins were detected and 6 were selected as candidates for possible surface display of GFP. Of these candidates, the novel L. casei protein LSEI_2320 was found to be expressed at the mRNA during early growth by RT PCR and at then protein level during stationary phase with western blot. This LPXTG protein was found at the surface of L. casei ATCC334 during stationary phase and late stationary phase with immunofluorescence microscopy. A genetically modified L. casei ATCC334 was constructed using the surface protein LSEI_2320 locus as a region for recombination with the pRV300 suicide plasmid. Genetic modification of the locus by the insertion of a GFP reporter region just before the predicted signal peptide site resulted in the abrogation of the expression of LSEI_2320 from the cell surface at the late stationary phase. It appears that this particular gene is not necessary to cell survival even though it is abundantly expressed on the cell surface and can be used as a location for genetic modification in L. casei ATCC334.

Lu, Yi Jenn Unknown Date (has links)
Four possible parametrizations ( including six models ) are considered in this study to clearify some ambigous issues related to a 2*2 cross-over design. Each model is analyzed using both the GLM procedure and two-sample t test. In addition, we also discuss issues related to the 2*2 repeated measurements cross-over design by using the univariate split-plot and multivariate analysis of variance techniques.

Confidence Intervals for a Ratio of Binomial Proportions Based on Paired Data

Bonett, Douglas, Price, Robert M. 15 September 2006 (has links)
Four interval estimation methods for the ratio of marginal binomial proportions are compared in terms of expected interval width and exact coverage probability. Two new methods are proposed that are based on combining two Wilson score intervals. The new methods are easy to compute and perform as well or better than the method recently proposed by Nam and Blackwelder. Two sample size formulas are proposed to approximate the sample size required to achieve an interval estimate with desired confidence level and width.

Effects of gaze strategy on standing postural stability in older multifocal wearers

Johnson, Louise, Elliott, David B., Buckley, John 04 May 2008 (has links)
No / Postural instability in older people is associated with an increased risk of falling. This experiment investigated the effects of different gaze strategies on postural stability in older people, when using distance single-vision compared with multifocal (progressive addition lens and bifocal) spectacles. METHODS: Eighteen healthy older habitual multifocal spectacle-wearers (mean age 72.1 +/- 4.0 years) participated in a randomised, cross-over study. Postural stability during quiet standing was assessed as the root mean square excursion in the centre of pressure (RMS-COP) in the antero-posterior direction. Ground reaction force data were collected (for 30 seconds), while subjects viewed one of two visual targets (one square metre) of different spatial frequencies and contrasts, while wearing either distance single-vision or multifocal (progressive addition and bifocal) spectacles. The visual targets were positioned either ahead at eye-level or on the ground (viewing distance 2.06 metres) and viewed under the following head-gaze conditions; 'head neutral-gaze forward', 'head flexed-gaze down' and 'head neutral-gaze down'. RESULTS: The type of spectacles worn or the target viewed had no significant effect on postural stability but postural stability deteriorated (antero-posterior RMS-COP excursion increased) in the 'head neutral-gaze down' compared with the 'head flexed-gaze down' and 'head neutral-gaze forward' conditions (5.9, 5.5 and 5.0 mm respectively, p < 0.001). CONCLUSIONS: Multifocal use had no effect on standing postural stability. Irrespective of spectacles worn, when fixating a visual target positioned at ground level, postural stability was better in the 'head flexed-gaze down' condition compared with the 'head neutral-gaze down' condition. A useful strategy to reduce falling in the older person might be to advise multifocal and distance single-vision spectacle-wearers to flex their heads rather than just lower their eyes when looking downwards.

The impact of the treatment of obstructive sleep apnea with continuous airway pressure on perceived health, tiredness, attractiveness, and age: a prospective randomized crossover placebo-controlled study

Yagihara, Fabiana Tokie 21 June 2017 (has links)
To compare the effects of one month with continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) treatment and placebo intervention on the appearance and objective facial skin characteristics of patients with obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) in a randomized crossover study. Methods: Consecutive sleepy patients with severe OSA were included. The patients underwent three polysomnograms (PSG): first one to confirm OSA and two additional ones using placebo (nasal dilator) and for CPAP titration before starting each treatment period. All patients were randomly included into two treatment groups: 1) placebo use and 2) CPAP use. After one month with the first treatment and 15 days of washout, patients were crossed-over for the second treatment. Photographs from the patients\' faces were obtained in the three experimental moments. The photographs were presented in a random order by the Qualtrics Survey Software, and were evaluated online by 704 observers for quantifying healthy appearance (unhealthy to extremely healthy), attractive (unattractive to extremely attractive) and tired (not tired to extremely tired). Apparent age was also rated for each observer. Quantitative evaluations of the skin characteristics of the patients\' faces were also carried out at each experimental moment, including the presence of acne, patches, porosity, wrinkles, texture, and skin tone uniformity, through the capture of images by VISIATM System equipment. Results: 30 patients (age = 46±9 years, 21 men) were evaluated. During treatment period, the patients wearing placebo intervention on 98% of the nights and adherence to CPAP was 94%, with a mean of 6.0 ± 1.7 hours of use per day of treatment. After CPAP treatment, compared to baseline and after placebo treatment, improvement in the objective sleep quality, sleepiness, quality of life and depressive symptoms were observed (P <0.05). Observational assessment of the photographs showed that patients were evaluated as being younger after using CPAP (P < 0.001), but no quantitative changes in face skin characteristics were observed compared to the baseline and after the use of placebo. Linear regression analysis identified the number of days with CPAP treatment, total sleep time and percentage of total sleep time with oxyhemoglobin saturation below 90% were predictors of decreasing of rated age after CPAP treatment. Conclusion: Sleepy patients with severe OSA had a younger appearance after one month of CPAP treatment
