VITA 49 Radio DF : Using coherent digital receiver set with VC++ and Octave

Perup, Daniel January 2013 (has links)
The objective of this thesis was to evaluate radio receivers that had been previously acquired for other tasks by the Swedish Defence Materiel Administration, for additional service in a radio direction finding (DF) system. The antenna, calibration signal generator and DF algorithm were provided. As the receivers used the VITA 49 frame format, much of the work involved the interpretation of the frame structure and contents. The other main challenges were to put the receivers into the correct internal state, to compensate the analogue phase errors due to cabling, and to correlate the digital frames according to the time stamps. The work was performed partly as a literature study and, during implementation, by using an investigative trial and-error method. Collection of reference signals, for later offline analysis, was made at the Swedish Defence Research Agency. The findings of the evaluation was that the receivers were phase coherent and that the VITA 49 frame format was suitable for DF use. An apparently systematic error of unknown origin rendered the DF results inaccurate, even though the precision of the results was high. The automatic gain control (AGC) of the receivers did not perform according to norm. If the systematic error is compensated for, and the AGC problem is eliminated, the receivers will function as a DF system using the manufacturer's instructions, with the provided antenna. The performance of the receivers in this setting was not a primary concern for the thesis, but was deemed to be acceptable. Suggestions for further development include finding the source of the systematic error, an automatic calibration function, a more thorough performance analysis, and code optimizations using multiple threads.

Leurebourg, Rodney 20 September 2012 (has links)

The use of motion-picture film as a theatrical device in a production of Eugene Ionesco's The bald soprano : a creative project

Henderson, Sharon Jean January 1974 (has links)
This creative project has explored a staging of Eugene Ionesco's The Bald Soprano that incorporated motion-picture film as a technical device. Drawing from the full body of Ionesco's works and their amplification of themes, theatrical techniques and use of language, this study considered The Bald Soprano as an Absurd play. The use of motion-picture film and slides in other theatrical productions was analyzed in order to justify the attempt to marry live actors and film on-stage in lonesco's play. In addition, this study discussed the director's approach to the production of The Bald Soprano: the rehearsal process, the light and set design, the use of film. Finally, it evaluated the attempt in terms of four principles of criticism: unity, communication, truthful projection of the playwright's emphasis and rhythm. The creative project also contains: a copy of the script annotated with the actions of the actors, the stage movements, light and sound effects, photographs of the play; a scenario of the film used and photographs lifted from individual frames of the film.

Searching For the Impossible Dream, Staging the Impossible Script

Brien, Timothy A 01 January 2003 (has links)
This thesis is an exploration of the novella The Malady of Death by Marguerite Duras and my subsequent production of this book. It covers Duras' history and influences in writing this book while at the same time gives an account of all my directorial attempts with this piece. With regards to Duras, the influence of the nouveau roman writers in the mid twentieth century and her relationship at the time of her writing Malady is discussed. For my part, I divulge my initial exposure to the piece, the previous attempts to stage the work, my latest attempt with extensive research, and finally providing self analysis with regards to this latest production. It is my hope that after reading this thesis the reader will immerse themselves into the world of Duras while at the same time rethink their approach to theater.

Armed With A Heart

Horton, Willie Charles, Jr. 20 December 2009 (has links)
This paper thoroughly examines the production of the thesis short film, Armed With A Heart, from conception to completion. Each area of the film's production is carefully dissected, including the writing, production design, cinematography, editing, sound, technology, workflow, and direction. Each of these areas contain a myriad of decisions that were made in effort to fulfill the overall vision of the movie as being a character driven, psychological thriller produced with a high production value. The aforementioned decisions are discussed at length. Documented feedback from test audiences is also reviewed in an attempt to objectively critique the final film.

The internal conflict of the corporate artist : Balance between artistic - and commercial interests within artistically driven fashion brands

Karlsson, Fredrik, Vall, Erik January 2012 (has links)
There has been a medial success in Swedish fashion during the last years. If one studies these companies they tend to tell another story financially. Regardless of financial or medial success artistically driven fashion brands have been a big part of the development of Swedish Fashion. For artistically driven fashion companies the Artistic freedom tend to be the main driving force and the very reason for establishing their own brand. There is a need to balance between artistic and commercial interests, which could imply that designers need to design more commercially marketable garments to finance the conceptual department. Financial resources can create artistic freedom but bringing in wrong investors could do the opposite. The financial dilemma of gaining economic resources by designing more marketable garments makes the brand image loose credibility since it tend to rely on the artistic direction. Conclusion: Through out the study we have identified that there exist an internal conflict inside the artistically driven fashion designer. The corporate artist exists of the creative mind, which represents the intrinsic values that motivate and inspire the artist. To be able to run a fashion brand the artist also needs to have managerial and entrepreneurial skills to be able to develop. These two perspectives often collide and the designer needs to make some difficult choices. / Program: Master in Fashion Management with specialisation in Fashion Marketing and Retailing
