Evolução microestrutural do aço inoxidável dúplex UNS 532205 durante laminação a frio e posterior recozimento / Microstructural evolution of a UNS S32205 duplex stainless steel duringcold rolling and further annealingGauss, Christian 15 October 2015 (has links)
In this Dissertation, results of the study of the microstructural evolution of a duplex stainless steel UNS S32205 during the cold rolling process and further isothermal annealing at 1080ºC are reported. Samples of the steel in the as-received, cold-rolled and annealed conditions were characterized using light and scanning electron microscopy, dilatometry, energy dispersive spectroscopy (EDS), Vickers hardness, X-ray diffraction (XRD), vibrating sample magnetization, macrotexture (XRD) and electron backscatter diffraction (EBSD). In the as-received material it was possible to observe a microstructure with partially recrystallized austenite (53%) with the presence of annealing twins and recovered ferrite. A volume fraction of approximately 50% of each phase was found. Thermodynamic calculations and chemical analysis via EDS showed good agreement on solute partitioning between ferrite and austenite. Magnetization analysis showed that there was no considerable changes in the magnetic phase fraction in the samples cold rolled up to 79% in thickness reduction. Hence, it was not possible to observe the formation of deformation induced martensite with the rolling conditions used in this work. Measurements of the coercive field (Hc) and remnant magnetization (MR) show, however, an almost linear behavior in relation to the degree of deformation. Through X-ray diffraction measurements, using a qualitative analysis of the diffracted peaks broadening, a higher work hardening of austenite was observed during cold rolling. The same behavior was found in hardness measurements of individual phases, and in the average kernel misorientation analysis (KAM) obtained by EBSD. Analysis of macrotexture and microtexture showed a strong texture in the as-received material, especially in ferrite, although this material was obtained by a hot-rolling process. During cold-rolling, no significant changes were observed in the texture components of both phases. However, an increase of the Goss-to-Brass component in austenite was noticed, and it may be related to the work hardening and to the formation of shear bands. In ferrite, the strengthening of the ?-fiber was noticed with increasing strain. The samples deformed 43% and 64% and annealed at 1080ºC showed a fully recrystallized microstructure after 3 min of annealing, forming a \"bamboo\" like structure. After 1-min annealing, by using grain orientation spread (GOS) analyzes, it was possible to observe the occurrence of primary recrystallization in ferrite (42% of recrystallized grains) in the 43% cold-rolled sample. On the other hand, austenite kept a slightly recovered microstructure. With a strain of 64%, the recrystallized fraction of ferrite did not change significantly, whereas austenite presented a recrystallized fraction of 45%. KAM analyzes showed a higher stored energy difference in austenite than in ferrite between the 43% and 64% rolled samples. Nevertheless, after annealing, a considerable increase in the fraction of special boundaries (CSL) ?3, ?13b and ?29a (between 11% and 12% in total) was observed in ferrite, while in austenite only an increase in the ?3 boundaries (about 15%), associated with the twin coherent boundaries, was identified.

CoordenaÃÃo de AperfeiÃoamento de Pessoal de NÃvel Superior / In the last years, the fractal geometry has become widely studied. Its application in several areas increased substantially, particularly in materials engineering and science, aiming the analysis of failures and the study of the mechanical properties of materials. Some studies have shown the relationship between the fracture surfaces and their mechanical properties using the fractal geometry and its properties of fractal dimension and selfsimilarity.
In this research, the fracture surface of duplex stainless steel, which was obtained by the Charpy impact test, was studied applying the fractal geometry. Considering the 475ÂC embrittlement, the steel was submitted to thermal aging to obtain the fracture surfaces, whose images were captured by the scanning electron microscope (SEM). In the fractal analysis, a study was made applying the island method and profile analysis through the digitalization of the images and the application of image analyzing software.
Emphasis was given on the calculation of the fractal dimension (FD) of the surface, on the energy absorbed during the impact test, on the involved fracture mechanisms and as well on the relationship between FD and thermal aging. In order to better understanding the subject, it was done the review about fracture mechanics, of duplex stainless steel and of fractal geometry. Finishing the research, the obtained fracture surface, the absorbed energy and the obtained values of FD were analyzed. The
obtained results demonstrated a relationship between the fractal dimension, the size of the dimples in fracture surfaces and the impact energy to obtain them. Deformationsstrukturer i ett duplext rostfritt stål (SAF 2507) / Deformation structures in a duplex stainless steel (SAF 2507)Ljungberg, Adam, Schmidt, Nathalie January 2014 (has links)
In order to improve the processes and the use of the duplex stainless steel SAF 2507, its deformation properties has to be investigated and explained. Through EBSD-analysis deformation structures and pole figures have been developed to describe the behavior of the material during deformation. Also Taylor factors, Young’s modules and Poisson's ratio have been developed in order to investigate the material's anisotropy. The experiments have been performed on samples of SAF 2507 which has been plastically deformed at different strains. The strains studied are undeformed sample, samples drawn uniaxial drawn to 7.7 % and 24.3 % elongation, and one sample which is cyclically loaded to 3% elongation. The steel we have investigated is produced by two different methods, but in this report, only the extruded steel is investigated. By comparing how different mechanical properties of the steel behave during plastic deformation, the result shows that the steel’s ferrite phase behaves anisotropically with a hint of increasing isotropy when the deformation is increasing. The austenite phase behaves isotropic and does not become more or less isotropic with increasing deformation. The substructures in the ferrite phase are clearly increasing with increasing deformation, and are seen mainly in the austenite phase after 24 % deformation.

Concept homo duplex et individualisme durkheimienMongeau, Jean-Luc 11 1900 (has links) (PDF)

Influence of carbides and nitrides on corrosion initiation of advanced alloys : A local probing studyBettini, Eleonora January 2013 (has links)
Advanced alloys often present precipitated carbides and nitrides in their microstructure following exposure to elevated temperatures. These secondary phases are usually undesirable, because potentially deleterious for the corrosion and mechanical performances of the material. Carbides and nitrides are enriched in key alloying elements that are subtracted from their surrounding matrix areas, creating alloying element depleted zones, which might become initial sites for corrosion initiation. In this study, the influence of micro- and nano-sized precipitated carbides and nitrides on the corrosion initiation of biomedical CoCrMo alloys and duplex stainless steels has been investigated at microscopic scale, by using a combination of local probing techniques. The microstructures of the alloys were first characterized by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and magnetic force microscopy (MFM). The Volta potential mapping of carbides and nitrides revealed their higher nobility compared to the matrix, and particularly compared to their surrounding areas, suggesting the occurrence of some alloying element depletion in the latter locations, which may lead to a higher susceptibility for corrosion initiation. In-situ electrochemical AFM studies performed at room temperature showed passive behavior for large potential ranges for both alloy families, despite the presence of the precipitated carbides or nitrides. At high anodic applied potential, at which transpassive dissolution occurs, preferential dissolution started from the areas adjacent to the precipitated carbides and nitrides, in accordance with the Volta potential results. Thus, the presence of carbides and nitrides doesn’t largely affect the corrosion resistance of the tested advanced alloys, which maintain passive behavior when exposed to highly concentrated chloride solutions at room temperature with no applied potential. The effect of nitrides on the corrosion initiation of duplex stainless steels was investigated also at temperatures above the critical pitting temperature (CPT). Depending on the type, distribution and size range of the precipitated nitrides different corrosion behaviors were observed. Intragranular (quenched-in) nano-sized nitrides (ca. 50-100 nm) finely dispersed in the ferrite grains have a minor influence on the corrosion resistance of the material at temperatures above the CPT, while larger intergranular (isothermal) nitrides (ca. 80-250 nm) precipitated along the phase boundaries cause a detrimental reduction of the corrosion resistance of the material, in particular of the austenite phase /
QC 20130927

Feedback and Cooperation in Wireless NetworksAbdoli Hoseinabadi, Mohammad Javad January 2012 (has links)
The demand for wireless data services has been dramatically growing over the last decade. This growth has been accompanied by a significant increase in the number of users sharing the same wireless medium, and as a result, interference management has become a hot topic of research in recent years. In this dissertation, we investigate feedback and transmitter cooperation as two closely related tools to manage the interference and achieve high data rates in several wireless networks, focusing on additive white Gaussian noise (AWGN) interference, X, and broadcast channels.
We start by a one-to-many network, namely, the three-user multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) Gaussian broadcast channel, where we assume that the transmitter obtains the channel state information (CSI) through feedback links after a finite delay. We also assume that the feedback delay is greater than the channel coherence time, and thus, the CSI expires prior to being exploited by the transmitter for its current transmission. Nevertheless, we show that this delayed CSI at the transmitter (delayed CSIT) can help the transmitter to achieve significantly higher data rates compared to having no CSI. We indeed show that delayed CSIT increases the channel degrees of freedom (DoF), which is translated to an unbounded increase in capacity with increasing signal-to-noise-ratio (SNR). For the symmetric case, i.e. with the same number of antennas at each receiver, we propose different transmission schemes whose achievable DoFs meet the upper bound for a wide range of transmit-receive antenna ratios. Also, for the general non-symmetric case, we propose transmission schemes that characterize the DoF region for certain classes of antenna configurations.
Subsequently, we investigate channels with distributed transmitters, namely, Gaussian single-input single-output (SISO) K-user interference channel and 2×K X channel under the delayed CSIT assumption. In these channels, in major contrast to the broadcast channel, each transmitter has access only to its own messages. We propose novel multiphase transmission schemes wherein the transmitters collaboratively align the past interference at appropriate receivers using the knowledge of past CSI. Our achievable DoFs are greater than one (which is the channel DoF without CSIT), and strictly increasing in K. Our results are yet the best available reported DoFs for these channels with delayed CSIT. Furthermore, we consider the K-user r-cyclic interference channel, where each transmitter causes interference on only r receivers in a cyclic manner. By developing a new upper bound, we show that this channel has K/r DoF with no CSIT. Moreover, by generalizing our multiphase transmission ideas, we show that, for r=3, this channel can achieve strictly greater than K/3 DoF with delayed CSIT.
Next, we add the capability of simultaneous transmission and reception, i.e. full-duplex operation, to the transmitters, and investigate its impact on the DoF of the SISO Gaussian K-user interference and M×K X channel under the delayed CSIT assumption. By proposing new cooperation/alignment techniques, we show that the full-duplex transmitter cooperation can potentially yield DoF gains in both channels with delayed CSIT. This is in sharp contrast to the previous results on these channels indicating the inability of full-duplex transmitter cooperation to increase the channel DoF with either perfect instantaneous CSIT or no CSIT. With the recent technological advances in implementation of full-duplex communication, it is expected to play a crucial role in the future wireless systems.
Finally, we consider the Gaussian K-user interference and K×K X channel with output feedback, wherein each transmitter causally accesses the output of its paired receiver. First, using the output feedback and under no CSIT assumption, we show that both channels can achieve DoF values greater than one, strictly increasing in K, and approaching the limiting value of 2 as K→∞. Then, we develop transmission schemes for the same channels with both output feedback and delayed CSIT, known as Shannon feedback. Our achievable DoFs with Shannon feedback are greater than those with the output feedback for almost all values of K.

Microstructural And Mechanical Characterization Of Duplex Stainless Steel Grade 2205 Joined By Hybrid Plasma And Gas Metal Arc WeldingTolunguc, Burcu 01 January 2012 (has links) (PDF)
In the present study, the applicability of the hybrid plasma arc welding, in which a keyhole is responsible of deep penetration and a filler wire electrode supplies a high deposition rate, was examined. The microstructural evolutions in grade 2205 duplex stainless steel plates joined by keyhole and melt-in techniques were investigated. The specimens obtained from welded plates having thickness of 8 mm were examined via optical and scanning electron microscopy. Metallographic investigations were supported by X-ray diffraction and energy dispersed spectra analyses by characterizing the phases formed after welding. Impact toughness properties, hardness profiles, and crack propagation behavior of welding zones were quantitatively and qualitatively compared for mechanical characterization. Fracture characteristics were determined via scanning electron microscopy examinations.
It was observed that single-pass HPA weldment seemed to be free of secondary austenite precipitation in acicular form, which is inevitable in multi-pass conventional arc welding methods. Besides &delta / -ferrite was successfully kept under 70%, which is presented as a limit to not to deteriorate the mechanical properties of DSS. High linear welding speed and high power density supplied by HPAW presented narrower weld metal and heat affected zone with not only lower hardness but also higher impact toughness energies. Synergic effect of the keyhole formed by a plasma arc and the metal transfer supplied by gas metal arc gave reasonable dilution in the weld metal. Furthermore, fatigue crack growth tests revealed that crack propagation rates in HPAW joints were comparable to GMAW joints.

This thesis discusses on results of experiments carried outwith austenitic, duplex and super duplex stainless steels andTi-6Al-4V. In these it has been seen that the heat cycle duringwelding or weld simulation has a great effect on the propertiesof thematerials. The properties are related to the resultedgrain size after processing, as well as, to the chemicalcomposition of the material. The thesis discusses on the grainsize resulted after hot processing and how the properties areinfluenced by it. Also, it has been seen how large grain sizeinfluences the fracture toughness of the duplex stainlesssteel. The CTOD values become so low that an alternativeproduction method should be used instead of casting. The thesisdescribes the behavior of grain size in the hot processing ofTi-6Al-4V and impact toughness resulted by various weldingprocesses.
