Breakting smart : The future of hand-held demolition

Nordmand Andersen, Philip January 2013 (has links)
This report describes the work method, conclusions and result of my Master Degree in Advanced Product Design at Umeå Institute of Design. The project lasted 17 weeks and took place in spring 2013. The project was carried out in collaboration with Atlas Copco. The main purpose of this project is to explore the future of handheld demolition tools and how to carry out this extremely physically demanding work in an ergonomic and effortless way, while keeping productivity high and complexity low. I will look into the area of robotics, compact machines, and exoskeletons to get inspiration for supportive structures that could potentially semi- or fully automate some of the strenuous movements of today’s work, while trying to incorporate features to solve some of the other problematic aspects like the hazardous silica and asbestos dust spreading in the air and/or detecting hidden pipes and cables to avoid unnecessary interior damages. The result will be a conceptual product meant for the future market of 2025.6

Leveraging customer engagement to improve the operational efficiency of social commerce start-ups

Liu, Z., Han, S., Li, C., Gupta, S., Sivarajah, Uthayasankar 23 November 2021 (has links)
Yes / Despite the surge of literature on customer engagement (CE) in social media, few studies shed light on how to leverage CE to improve firms’ operational efficiency. This research proposes a fresh framework using social media data to improve demand forecasting accuracy, resulting in a cost-efficient inventory control strategy. Drawing upon the resource mobilization perspective in particular, this research quantifies the construct of CE from the view of input–output efficiency evaluation using the Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA) model, and then leverages CE to forecast consumer online demand and reconfigure inventory management strategy. Using a 71-week data set from a social commerce start-up in China, this research shows that this new framework dramatically increases demand forecasting accuracy and reduces operational costs in inventory management. This study contributes to the literature by demonstrating the value of social media data in improving operational efficiency, particularly regarding inventory management. / National Natural Science Foundation of China (Project No. 71671152)

A task-specific approach to job accommodation in physically-demanding positions

Bester, George Francis 29 October 2008 (has links)
Throughout the world, including South Africa, various approaches have been identified and implemented in an attempt to ensure that employees in physically-demanding positions are properly managed from a physical work capacity point of view, the primary goal always being to return the employee in need of assistance to full working capacity as soon as possible. The burning question has, however, always remained: “What happens to the employee in the meantime?” This study focused on exactly that question, the aim being to develop a comprehensive tool to assist all parties concerned in managing the affected employee through the application of task-specific job accommodation. The predetermined goal of the study was to develop a task-specific job accommodation tool for a physically-demanding position. This was achieved through a number of steps, which included an extensive literature review, a thorough job analysis, identification of a suitable test battery with related minimum physical requirements and cut scores, interviews, and the eventual development of the tool. Once the task-specific job accommodation tool was completed, the next step was to make use of three case studies to assist in illustrating the way the tool is to be implemented, as well as to show the potential value of its implementation. The information from three actual incapacity cases in the company concerned was used for these case studies. The results from this study are extremely positive and the three case studies have provided a glimpse of the potential value that could be added through the implementation of the job accommodation tool. The final product will greatly assist the company concerned in managing incapacitated employees in a manner that is beneficial to both the company and the individuals involved. Hopefully, this study will contribute to bring about a new era in the way South African companies and their occupational health departments approach the management of their incapacitated employees. Vliv extrémní fyzické a psychické zátěže na organismus / The effects of extreme physical and mental stress on the human body

Braumová, Lucie January 2012 (has links)
Title: The effects of extreme physical and mental stress on the human body Goals: The main goal of this work was to evaluate the effect of physical stress load in a five-kilometer-long race in cross-country skiing on physical and mental functions of high school students. Methods: The investigated group consisted of 10 boys of the average age of 16 years. To evaluate their level of physical fitness and circulatory responses during cross-country stress, the maximal treadmill stress test was used. Circulatory response before, during, and after the race was monitored by a Sport-tester. To evaluate the mental background and the actual condition under the stress load, standardized questionnaires on ability to cross-country skiing, stress management strategy, degree of physical discomfort and current mental state were used. Results: The reference file tested by a stress test up to the maximum proved an above-average aerobic fitness. The extreme stress situation was a five-kilometer-long race in cross-country skiing. The results were processed and evaluated with a statistical and factual relevance. A number of correlations were made. The average SF values, which were achieved during the race, were getting near the maximum values (96% of SF max.). Even the evaluation by a Borg RPE scale attested to the...

Känslomässiga utmaningar i socialt arbete – vad betyder strategier och yrkeserfarenhet? / Emotional challenges in social work - the importance of strategies and experience of the profession

Svensson, Kajsa January 2014 (has links)
The aim of this study was to gain a greater understanding of what social workers perceive to be mentally demanding and emotionally challenging work, and which strategies they use to handle it. I chose to interview six social workers, three of them had long experience of social work, and three of them had worked for less than a year. The justification for this choice wasthat I wanted to interview people with different experience of social work over time, to be able to see possible differences in what was perceived as mentally demanding and emotionally challenging work, and how it was handled. The social workers were interviewed with a semi structured interview manual. The results showed that the organization of the social service is not fitted to the work that social workers execute. This means that what is perceived as mentally demanding and emotionally challenging work largely depends on this. Experience of the profession does not necessarily affect what is perceived as mentally demanding and emotionally challenging work. However, longer work experience seems to benefit a social workers choice of strategies. This means that mentally demanding and emotionally challenging work in some cases is better handled by social workers with longer experience of the profession. The organization of the workplace can also affect which coping strategies that are being used, for example is time for reflection during working hours beneficial for the employees.

: Zvládání komunikačně náročných situací v přímé péči o pacienta / Coping with demanding communication situations in patient primary care

Celarová, Marta January 2020 (has links)
This thesis focuses on the role of communication from healthcare professionals to patients, their relatives, and colleagues and its impact on patient care outcomes. We demonstrate the importance of appropriate communication style and strong communication skills to these outcomes (i.e. higher adherence, overall satisfaction, and social support). We also illustrate various situations requiring difficult communication that healthcare professionals commonly encounter in practice. The aim is to capture the most common communication demanding situations from the practice of healthcare professionals and provide a "reference" for their successful completion. The outcome of the practical part of this work is to map the difficult communication situations of Czech healthcare professionals (doctors, nurses and others) through questionnaire survey , and to design a mobile application that will serve as a form of aid for healthcare professionals or medics in individual communication situations with adult patients, their relatives, and colleagues. Keywords: Communication in healthcare, communication-demanding situations, patient care, health professionals

Syndrom vyhoření u učitelek mateřských škol / Burnout syndrome of kindergarten teachers

Jandová, Martina January 2012 (has links)
RESUME This diploma is dedicated to stress and burnout syndrom. Objective of this diploma is to find out what is the rate of mental strain concerning burnout syndrom and to map occurence of burnout syndrom for kindergarten teachers. We were interested how burnout syndrom is impacted by professional experience, number of children, place of work, team satisfaction and level of personal satisfaction according to age of teacher. It is focused to teacher's career and to specific stress categories. I have used Maslach Burnout Inventory questionnaire which is standardized for measurement of burnout syndrom and questionnaire dedicated to find out sensitivity against stress. I have used own questionnaire to find out demographic figures. Final result indicates most of teachers are resistant against stress. Burnout syndrom across all three areas was indicated only for one respondent from total number of 100 asked teachers. For 8 teachers burnout syndrom was confirmed in two areas.
