The term 'government-aided men' refers to men who receive direct aid from Federal relief in order to live and to support their dependents. Many are members of the CCC camp; but others receive their aid from the old-age pension fund, from W.P.A. projects, or other Federal organizations. Laborers are interpreted as men who do not hold 'white-collared' jobs...educational status is used to indicate the highest grade completed in school...the term economic status means the income of the men under consideration..This study is confined to certain men in Denton, Texas, and deals with only male whites between the ages of 21 and 65 years. The problem is not concerned with what the state should do or should not do, nor does it lead to any solution of existing conditions. The context chosen was the Hospice movement, which deals with assisting terminally ill persons and their families through the stages of death and bereavement. A readers theatre script was compiled for "Ann's Haven: Hospice of Denton County," which was selected for the locus of this thesis. The script was presented to various civic groups for the purpose of informing the public and eliciting support for Ann's Haven. Chapter I serves as an introduction. Chapter II presents a history of the Denton Public Schools. Chapter III presents standards for evaluating modern school architecture. Features of existing school buildings, built earlier than 1964, which, in character, exemplify modern architectural design are described in Chapter IV. The three school buildings built since 1946 and the one under construction are described in detail and evaluated according to the standards given. 69	In the Tall Grass West of Town: Racial Violence in Denton County during the Rise of the Second Ku Klux Klan Crittenden, Micah Carlson 05 1900 (has links) The aim of this thesis is to narrate and analyze lynching and atypical violence in Denton County, Texas, between 1920 and 1926. Through this intensive study of a rural county in north Texas, the role of law enforcement in typical and systemic violence is observed and the relationship between Denton County Officials and the Ku Klux Klan is analyzed. Chapter 1 discusses the root of the word lynching and submits a call for academic attention to violence that is unable to be categorized as lynching due to its restrictive definition. Chapter 2 chronicles known instances of lynching in Denton County from its founding through the 1920s including two lynchings perpetrated by Klavern 136, the Denton County Klan. Chapter 3 examines the relationship between Denton County Law Enforcement and the Klan. In Chapter 4, seasons of violence are identified and applied to available historical records. Chapter 5 concludes that non-lynching violence, termed "disappearances," occurred and argues on behalf of its inclusion within the historiography of Jim Crow Era criminal actions against Black Americans. In the Prologue and Epilogue, the development and dissolution of the St. John's Community in Pilot Point, Texas, is narrated.
