Home repairs and maintenance are a necessary responsibility of any person who maintains a home. This responsibility can usually be met in one of two ways: first, someone can be hired to do the maintenance, or the person can do it himself. However, home repairs are costly and at times prohibitive to the average person who maintains a home. Then, too, there have been times in the past, especially during the war years, when it was next to impossible to secure the services of trained mechanics for home maintenance. During such time, and out of such necessity, many people began to make their own repairs and other improvements and, as a result, a gradual "do-it-yourself" movement has invaded all sections of the country. With the changing of times, with money a little more plentiful and manpower back in civilian life, do people who maintain their homes continue to make their own home repairs?

The purpose of this study was to determine to what extent the public recreation of Denton under the present administrative setup is serving the needs of the citizenship of Denton. Various agencies affording recreation for their own members or sponsoring recreation activities affecting other inhabitants of Denton were surveyed to determine the present status of administration of public recreation in Denton. The results of the survey were compared with standards set up by the National Recreation Association for cities the size of Denton. From a comparison of the present status and the standards, an effort was made to formulate a basis of administration that would be sound and business-like, well co-ordinated, and consistent with good governmental practice.

"The purpose of this study is to examine the impact of the medicare law on a particular hospital: Flow Memorial Hospital, Denton, Texas. The scope of this study is limited to an analysis of changes in hospital car at Flow Memorial Hospital resulting from medicare. These changes are examined on the basis of 1. number of patients and days of care; 2. hospital services by department; 3. the means of payment; and 4. social characteristics of the aged patient group. A detailed examination of aged patient care was made for the fiscal years 1966 and 1967. The 1966 year was the year immediately preceding medicare. The 1967 year was the first year of medicare. "The area of study was restricted to those common flowering herbs of Denton County, Texas, which have conspicuous flowers or a conspicuous flower cluster. There were, however, many plants included in this flora which are common to several counties of north-central Texas. Since there has been no previous key devised for the herbs of Denton County, Texas, the purpose of this key was to provide a flora which could be used by elementary and high school instructors, as well as any other interested persons who lack an extensive knowledge of botanical nomenclature." -- leaf iv.

"The problem of this study is to determine whether the hobbies of the fourth and fifth grade boys of the public schools in Denton, Texas, are contributing to their social needs. It is believed that the intangible attributes of living, which can be mearsured neither by rule nor square, make for the well-rounded, happy, social, individual, whether he be adult or child. The degree to which an individual is adjusted socially ranges from the completely anti-social type to the fully-integrated type. The reasons for this gradation are numerous. They include the influence of the home, the school, and the playmates, as well as other factors in the general environment of the child. The purpose of this investigation is to discover whether the hobbies of the boys under consideration are potential and actual forces for integration and socialization."--leaf 1.

"The first part of the study is devoted to a comparison of those graduates who stay in Denton with those who move away. The marital status of each group, where they live, and why they chose the cities in which they live are shown in this section. A study is made to determine if those graduates who have moved away choose cities larger or smaller than Denton. The second aspect of the problem is developed by making a comparison of the quality of work done in high school and amount of education of the two groups. To make this comparison, a study is made of the quartile rank in high school ; the number that attended college in each group; the schools they attended; and the number that graduated from college. The third part of the problem is a comparison of the degree of success attained by each group. the occupations of the graduates, the number who have their own businesses, the financial success of each group, and the relationship of education to financial success attained are shown. The fourth division of the problem is the presentation of suggestions given by the graduates for improving job opportunities in Denton. It is hoped that this study will show whether or not Denton is losing its potentially more valuable citizens to other communities."-- leaf 2.

"There are many factors that influence the achievement of school children; however it is rather difficult to determine the effect of each because of the close relationship and probable overlapping of the various factors. The problem in this study is to determine what effect the size of the school, training and qualifications of the teachers, and sex have upon the achievement of elementary school children in Denton County. A few of the main factors involved in this study will be examined and statistically presented, so as to show their relation to the achievement of the rural children in Denton County, as revealed through the Harlow achievement tests."-- leaf 1.

This study was made: first, to determine the vocational opportunities for commercial graduates of Denton Senior High School as a basis for more effective guidance; second, to determine whether the commercial training program in the local high school is providing adequate vocational preparation for the principal commercial positions in Denton, Texas, third, to discover the chief commercial weaknesses of the present employees in Denton, Texas; fourth, to secure information necessary for appropriate commercial curriculum for the local high school. It is the further aim of this investigation to determine the social as well as the personal business needs of the average individuals." --leaf 1

It has become more and more evident that independent food retailers must co-ordinate their individual efforts if they are to gain an operating efficiency paralleling that of the corporate multiple-unit or chain system. Such co-ordination largely has taken three courses: (1) group buying clubs, (2) wholesale- sponsored voluntary chains, and (3) retailer-owned co-operative warehouses. It is the last of these that this study suggests as the most appropriate course for Denton independent retailers.

"The problem of this thesis is to determine through survey and comparative study the effect of the activity program of Denton's El Centro, the youth center, on the youth of the City of Denton...methods of operation and internal organization of youth centers, the purpose of the centers and the results of some of the activities are outlined. Members of the Denton youth center were interviewed; the information gained from the interviews was recorded on prepared questionnaires. Various types of activities at Denton's youth center are discussed. The study also attempts to reveal by means of tables those activities which are more important to the male youth of Denton. A discussion of the treatment of the youth problem is given with conclusions based upon the principles and practices set forth in the foregoing chapters."-- leaf 2.
