1 ABSTRACT The master thesis deals with the application of the concept of diversity management. Its objective is to determine the degree of implementation of diversity management in selected primary schools in the Central Bohemian Region. The theoretical part describes the theoretical knowledge about diversity and diversity management, their importance, classifiction of every type and description of the implementation of diversity management in organization with possible connections to the schools. The theoretical part constitutes a knowledge base for the practical part, which presents the results of a survey conducted per an online questionnaire electronic forms and personal interviews with the directresses and the directors of elementary schools. The investigation of internal documents was conducted in schools of the directresses and directors in the last stage of the research process. The results of the research and conclusions presented in the thesis show a current report on the degree of implementation of diversity management in primary schools of the Central Bohemian Region, provide the description of a current situation and conclude in recommendations, while revealing the most common weak points, obstacles and aspects discouraging from the implementation of diversity management and their availability...

Quantifying Coding Gain from Telemetry Data Combining

Data received from five ground stations in 54 data files with 18 million intermittent frames is combined, to create a single file with 1.5 million continuous frames. Coding gain provided by data combining is as high as 30 dB, with a useful improvement of 5 dB at boost and terminal stages. With frame reconstruction techniques, erroneous words in a frame are reduced from 2.1% to 0.12 %.

Environmental correlates to amphibian and reptile diversity in Costa Rica

The study of species diversity patterns and their causes remains a central theme of ecology. Work conducted over the last few decades has shown that both historical and ecological factors are important in determining species diversity patterns. Additionally, different causal mechanisms are important at different spatial and temporal scales. At the regional scale, species diversity patterns can best be studied in terms of three diversity components (alpha, beta and gamma). This study used the amphibians and reptiles of Costa Rica to examine these species diversity components at the regional scale. To accomplish this, existing species lists were compiled from the literature. Additionally, three herpetofaunal surveys were conducted at under surveyed sites to fill knowledge gaps. A survey of Parque Nacional Carara, a transitional zone site on Costa Rica’s central Pacific coast, gave evidence of a rich herpetofauna, containing species from both the dry tropical forest to the north and the wet lowland forest to the south. Survey results show that Carara’s herpetofaunal assemblage is more similar to that of the wet forest than the dry forest, and suggest many species from both assemblages reach their range limit at or near the park. Surveys of four sites in the eastern Área de Conservación Guanacaste showed rich herpetofaunal diversity and validated the newly purchased Rincón Rainforest as an important conservation area. A survey of Reserva Natural Absoluta Cabo Blanco provided a preliminary list of amphibian and reptile species of the lower Nicoya Peninsula and highlighted the importance of Laguna Balsitas to the local amphibian fauna. A comparison of amphibian and reptile alpha diversity among 17 sites throughout Costa Rica showed highest alpha amphibian diversity in the lowland rainforests of the Pacific versant and highest reptile alpha diversity in lowland rainforests of the Atlantic versant. An analysis of beta diversity produced dendrograms showing sites within lowland ecoregions being most similar. A Canonical Correspondence Analysis (CCA) of environmental variables showed two climate gradients, an elevation/temperature gradient and a sun/rain gradient, to be important in determining species diversity patterns for both amphibians and reptiles in Costa Rica.

Corporations closely monitor social change to assess potential risks to their strategic objectives. As seen in the social unrest of 2019, their reliance on diversity initiatives demonstrated their solidarity. Such efforts, heightened by stakeholder influence can obscure the attitudes and perceptions of those they most rely upon to carry out these policies. While corporate leaders set these initiatives, managers implement and oversee them. This dissertation explores managerial attitudes and perceptions toward diversity management initiatives. It benchmarks this endeavor through two studies. Study 1 establishes the groundwork for this investigation by building a theoretical framework and identifying a research gap concerning the need for validated Diversity Management Initiatives (DMI) scales. Study 2 methodologically develops novel DMI measurements and assesses the current state of managers’ demeanors toward diversity mechanisms. Board diversity and corporate propensity to R&D spending

Yes / Drawing on collective contributions and group performance perspectives, this paper examines the role of board diversity in firms’ R&D investment decisions. Building on a fault-line argument about a team’s demographic attributes, this study also decomposes the impact of demographic and cognitive diversity on R&D spending. The study sample contains UK data of non-financial companies covering the period between 2005 and 2018. We employ panel data analysis techniques and control for potential endogeneity issues through the application of the two-step system Generalised Method of Moments (GMM) estimations. The findings demonstrate a positive and significant relationship between board diversity and level of corporate R&D spending. The findings also show cognitive diversity as significantly positively associated with corporate R&D investments. Demographic diversity, however, has an insignificant relationship with corporate spending on R&D. The results further show that demographic diversity negatively moderates the relationship between cognitive diversity and spending on R&D. Our main findings document that the board’s attributes as a group significantly influence decisions of strategic importance such as, investment in R&D projects. The findings on sub-dimensions of board diversity imply that as compared to demographic diversity, functional/cognitive diversity is more relevant to strategic decisions and related outcomes. The study has practical implications for shareholders in documenting the importance of board diversity, and policy implications for regulators in highlighting the separate roles of behavioural and cognitive diversity in shaping firms’ strategic investment decisions.

The Importance of Board Diversity : Measured by Tobin’s Q

This paper examines the relationship between firm performance, measured by Tobin’s Q, and board diversity. Board diversity is measured by age differentials, gender diversity, board size, number of board members with higher education, and number of nationali-ties included in the board. The data were collected from firms on the OMX Stockholm 30, for the years 2006-2010. Because data were collected from 5 years, a panel type re-gression is used. Furthermore the regression of this paper corrects for time specific ef-fects. This paper contributes to the field of research by investigating the Swedish market in a quantitative manner and using these specific five explanatory variables as a measure of board diversity. The result of this paper shows a clear overall relationship between board diversity and firm performance. More specifically, the education and nationality variables are not significant. The size variable is significant and negatively correlated to firm performance, while the gender and age variables show a significant and positive re-lationship to firm performance.
