The shift towards electric transportation on a global scale is being primarily driven by regulatory requirements and market demand. The impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on air pollution, energy demand, and CO2 emissions has further accelerated this transition. This transformation necessitates the development of efficient electric propulsion systems, particularly for commercial vehicles. These systems not only have a positive environmental impact but also offer significant financial advantages to fleet owners due to lower overall costs. One of the major challenges in this transition is the design and calibration of regenerative braking strategies, especially for commercial vehicles that exhibit significant variations in weight. This weight difference between curb and gross vehicle weight is a common scenario in the commercial vehicle sector. This thesis introduces the Adaptive One-Pedal Drive (A-OPD) strategy, which is specifically tailored for electric commercial vehicles with varying weight profiles and lacking advanced drive-by-wire braking systems. The thesis focuses on the development and accurate assessment of a model-centric approach for electrified propulsion systems. This approach establishes a strong correlation between the model and physical data, demonstrating its reliability in estimating critical variables such as battery state-of-charge, battery terminal voltage, system high-voltage DC, and wheel torque, even under diverse driving conditions. This model-centric approach serves as a valuable tool for optimizing design and conducting tradeoff analyses, enabling efficient evaluation of energy efficiency and drivability. Selecting the most suitable electrified propulsion system architecture is a crucial decision. The thesis categorizes electrified propulsion system architectures based on their impact on vehicle performance, energy consumption, and total cost of ownership. This selection process involves a multidisciplinary approach that takes into account both technical and business requirements. The central research focus of this thesis centers on regenerative braking systems. It compares series and parallel configurations, traditional one-pedal-drive (OPD), and introduces an innovative Adaptive One-Pedal Drive (A-OPD). The A-OPD relies on vehicle running mass identification using the Recursive Least Square Filter (RLS) and weight classification. This A-OPD strategy significantly enhances energy efficiency in urban traffic scenarios, even when vehicles are partially loaded. It outperforms parallel regenerative braking systems by up to 50% while maintaining performance levels similar to the series regenerative braking strategy. This innovation represents a significant leap in energy efficiency for electric commercial vehicles without the need for complex electronic braking systems. In summary, this thesis advances our understanding of optimizing the performance of electric commercial vehicles. The A-OPD strategy proves to be a practical and valuable tool for enhancing energy efficiency, particularly in dense urban traffic, and it outperforms parallel regenerative braking systems. This is the origin of its pragmatic value and its ethical consistency. It is a strange formulation considering the idea that the drives are already there, so to speak, as a nature, and that the psyche must be constituted and organized as it controls, dominates, aligns, domesticates, subjugates them and, especially, invests, always through available cultural and symbolic resources. Now, a splitting of the thesis refers to saying that there is a profound difference between the images of the drive, built by not driving bodies, and the driving vision itself. When is it up to the drive and its knowledge? How does it exercise the drive vision? Under what conditions is the drive practiced? And what is the proper time of this practice? These issues are still inside the thesis in question, as still belong to the thesis what we call features of the drive, namely, the features by which the drive or the drives become audible, visible, understandable. The intelligible character of the drive suggests, finally, some logic, the drive logic. Thus we have a drive ethic and a drive logic, a practice and an understanding, with the necessary consequence of conceiving the sublimation as an originating destination from the drive. If this is supported, the split between psyche and the drive should be reviewed, and even what is thought about psychic, when it is seen from a drive perspective. The real, far from being impossible, is not only a matter of experience, as it is a matter of practice. Similarly, the conceptions of order and disorder (or chaos), from the point of view of a psyche, must be rethought. It is not necessary to say that, based on these questions, the concepts of life drive and death drive, including their most critical issues, should also be reviewed. Improving detection and annotation of malware downloads and infections through deep packet inspection

Malware continues to be one of the primary tools employed by attackers. It is used in attacks ranging from click fraud to nation state espionage. Malware infects hosts over the network through drive-by downloads and social engineering. These infected hosts communicate with remote command and control (C&C) servers to perform tasks and exfiltrate data. Malware's reliance on the network provides an opportunity for the detection and annotation of malicious communication. This thesis presents four main contributions. First, we design and implement a novel incident investigation system, named WebWitness. It automatically traces back and labels the sequence of events (e.g., visited web pages) preceding malware downloads to highlight how users reach attack pages on the web; providing a better understanding of current attack trends and aiding in the development of more effective defenses. Second, we conduct the first systematic study of modern web based social engineering malware download attacks. From this study we develop a categorization system for classifying social engineering downloads and use it to measure attack properties. From these measurements we show that it is possible to detect the majority of social engineering downloads using features from the download path. Third, we design and implement ExecScent, a novel system for mining new malware C&C domains from live networks. ExecScent automatically learns C&C traffic models that can adapt to the deployment network's traffic. This adaptive approach allows us to greatly reduce the false positives while maintaining a high number of true positives. Lastly, we develop a new packet scheduling algorithm for deep packet inspection that maximizes throughput by optimizing for cache affinity. By scheduling for cache affinity, we are able to deploy our systems on multi-gigabit networks.

Servopneumatic Clamping System for the Assembly of Battery Cells in the Area of Electromobility

This paper describes a new application for servopneumatic drives. In a battery module for automotive applications the pouch cells are clamped between frames. During the assembly the frames needs to be clamped permanently. So a clamping system comprising two drives was developed, which moves four clamp fingers each alternating. In the first chapter the application is described in detail. The second chapter includes a comparison of servoelectric and servopneumatic drives for this application with respect to energy consumption, installation space and purchase cost. The developed clamping unit is described in chapter three as well as a verification of the influence of the preload force on the straightness of the stack. At the end of this paper the conclusions are summed up.

Bearing options, including design and testing, for direct drive linear generators in wave energy converters

The key focus of this research was to investigate the bearing options most suited to operation in a novel direct drive linear generator. This was done through bearing comparisons, modelling and testing. It is fundamental that the linear generator is designed to suit the marine environment. Key design constraints include reliability, survivability, maintenance intervals and cost. Resilient mechanical structural components, such as bearings, will prolong the time a device can operate without maintenance hence prolonging the operating period. Effective lifespan predictions for bearings will feed into the structural design of the generator which forms part of an overall objective to combine each generator design stage into one integrated design process. This promises to provide a cost effective, light weight generator design. This thesis covers the initial investigations into effective, long life and low-wear bearings to meet the operating demands of WEC. It includes an assessment of conventional bearing technology, designs of water-fed hydrostatic bearings and testing of novel polymer bearings. The development of an experimental test rig from a prototype linear generator is described. The rig was built in order to validate and fully explore the potential of self-lubricating, submersible polymer bearings with the ultimate aim of identifying wear constants and frictional properties of the bearings in the low-speed, mid to high-load, oscillating operation of a WEC in order to more accurately predict a bearing lifespan. The outcome of this research served to underpin the need for the design of application specific bearing systems to be based on empirically determined data and observations from test data taken from application specific tests. For inclusion in the design of these linear generators, sizing a bearing requires knowledge of the electrical loading in addition to the expected operating conditions of a WEC. Choosing bearing materials and hence lubricant regimes is dependant on the thermal operating characteristics. Then bearing knowledge in terms of size, load capacity and lifespan can be put directly into the structural model. This iterative process of design can then be merged into a fully integrated generator design tool hence this research was part of the development of an integrated design tool for direct drive generators.

Structural optimisation of permanent magnet direct drive generators for 5MW wind turbines

This thesis focuses on permanent magnet "direct drive" electrical generators for wind turbines with large power output. A variety of such generator topologies is reviewed, tested and optimised in an attempt to increase their potential as commercial concepts for the wind industry. Direct drive electrical generators offer a reliable alternative to gearbox drivetrains. This novel technology reduces energy loses thus allowing more energy to be yield from the wind and decreases the maintenance cost at the same time. A fundamental issue for these generators is their large size which makes them difficult to manufacture, transport and assembly. A number of structural designs have been suggested in the literature in an attempt to minimise this attribute. A set of design tools are set out in an attempt to investigate the structural stiffness of the different permanent magnet direct drive generator topologies against a number of structural stresses that apply to such wind turbine energy converters. Optimisation techniques, both analytical and structural, are also developed for minimising the total mass of a variety of "directly driven" machines with power output of 5MW or greater. Conventional and promising generator designs are modelled and optimised with the use of these optimisation techniques. The topologies under examination are then compared in terms of structural mass, stiffness and cost. As the number of wind turbine manufactures who adopt the direct drive concept increases, it is important to outline the unique characteristics of the different topologies and increase their manufacturing potential. Discussions and conclusions will provide an indication of the design solutions that could help decrease the mass and cost of such machines.

I was so passionate about what is the future mobility that very compatible to South-East Asia consumer that face a hot weather and humidity climate in whole year. Recently, the car that we produce whether in local manufacturing or imported car are not very compatible for the current environment since the climate is change dramatically in kind of temperature which massive impact in material usage in the vehicle and our daily life. By this platform, my main priority is to find a best solution by doing a research and problem´s analysis about the real situation and for a long period of time. Then, I was began the project by summarize the concept based on the research analysis. Design research, brand and background analysis, ideation sketches, studying an overall form by using clay and 3D digital modelling and also advanced visualization were the main methods that implemented during this project. The result is GEMILANG Concept, designed a future vehicle which have semi-autonomous drive mode for ASEAN ambition and actual need throughout in developing countries. The concept is considered between a climate change in this region and proposes a highly efficient in how to implement the best use of natural resources that able to stand in extreme climate particularly in this region and innovative solution between tradition, need and technology.

Effects of Manifest Anxiety Upon a Measure of Memory Span

This study will attempt to verify the Hullian drive theory, E = f(HxD), as others have done before, but with one exception. The H, or habit strength, will be held to be neutral so that the E, or excitatory potentials, will be a function of drive alone. Without any habit to reinforce, any increase in excitatory potential can be related directly to increase in drive. Four hypotheses were investigated: The first hypothesis was that the HA, or high-anxiety groups, will also be the high-drive groups, and this will follow for the NA and LA groups, to be determined by the performance on the digit-span test. The second hypothesis was that the high-drive groups will perform better on the digit-span tests than the low-drive groups. The third hypothesis stressed that in accordance with Hullian theory, with increased stress being introduced with a single habit tendency, the low-drive groups will be outperformed by the high-drive groups. The fourth hypothesis presumed that verification of the first three hypotheses will show the "Taylor Manifest Anxiety Scale" to be capable of differentiating between high and low manifest anxiety groups and will verify the Taylor-Spence hypothesis based on Hullian theory that the HA's will outperform the LA's in a stress situation.

What will happen to sport cars once our society and infrastructure allow for a fully autonomous transport systems? My concern for the ”survival of the sports car” clearly originates from an emotional viewpoint rather than a reasonable argument. We know about the benefits that come along with autonomy but that doesn’t make the fear of loosing the emotional side of driving unfounded. My aim was to create a scenario that allows both reason and emotion to coexist and furthermore to benefit from each other rather than to create a conflict. The result is a PORSCHE for 2040 that shows an exciting concept for steering fully autonomous cars of the future. It combines the benefits of autonomy with the emotions of sports cars.
