Is there balance in Business Process Management?

January 2012 (has links)
abstract: ABSTRACT There has been plenty written on the topic of process management in business. This study focuses more on the need to research and develop a model to establish "balance" in process. Reengineering process and investing capital into current technology does not improve the outcome of process alone. The actual process activity coupled with human interface combined with technology determines the outcome of processes, however they do not indicate whether it is a balanced process or not. Wherein the word balance really means sustainable for long periods of time and easily reproduced by others. This study argues for the need of new research in the topic matter and its affects on company profitability, sustainability over long periods of time and tenure with employee. / Dissertation/Thesis / M.S.

Factors Contributing to Business Process Reengineering Implementation Success

Dell'Aquila, Mary Elizabeth 01 January 2017 (has links)
Organizational leaders continue to use business process reengineering (BPR) as a process improvement methodology even though BPR implementations have had low success rates. To increase BPR success rates, organizational leaders must understand what specific factors contribute to successful BPR implementations. Grounded in Lewin's field theory, the purpose of this nonexperimental, cross-sectional study was to examine the impact of gender and education on BPR. Data collection consisted of nonprobability convenience sample of 122 members from the professional networking website LinkedIn and the professional organizational website American Society for Quality. Data were gathered from a 6-point Likert-type scale survey instrument based on Hammer and Stanton's pre-identified BPR failure factors. The MANOVA results indicated no significant gender, education, or gender and education interaction effect on a linear combination of perception of BPR success factors, F (33.00, 318.00) = .591, p > 0.05, partial eta squared =.058. The results of this study might contribute to social change by helping organizational leaders understand factors that do not appear to be related to successful BPR implementations. The elimination of these factors could allow organizational leaders to focus on other factors for successful BPR implementations. Successful BPR implementations might lead to increased organizational profits, which could allow organizational leaders more opportunity and increase corporate social responsibility, all of which may directly affect the quality of life in a community.

A systems engineering approach to improve the measurement and verification process of energy services companies / Alicha Leola Meek

Meek, Alicha Leola January 2014 (has links)
The extensive use of fossil fuels coupled with its decreasing availability has ignited many countries to enact policies on energy usage. Energy Services Companies (ESCOs) all over the world are implementing initiatives to save energy. The South African ESCO industry must still overcome many barriers for it to be as effective as other global ESCOs. One of the stakeholders of an energy-savings intervention is the measurement and verification (M&V) team. The M&V team aims to provide objective and independent quantification of energy savings realised during an intervention. Despite the importance of the M&V function, the M&V process was shown to be inefficient, lacking in standardisation and research. The focus of this dissertation is to identify opportunities for improvement within the M&V process and to determine methods for the easy management thereof. The first two research aims are met by evaluating the process and determining the requirements for improving the process with regard to the critical areas that were identified. It is realised that the management of the M&V process could be simplified by using an information management system. This leads to the design of an information management system for the M&V process using the knowledge obtained during the evaluation. A case study is performed on one of South Africa’s largest ESCOs. The findings of the case study underline improvements regarding certain performance indicators. Moreover, the findings suggest that an information management system can support all the desired process requirements. / MIng (Mechanical Engineering), North-West University, Potchefstroom Campus, 2014

Diagnóstico em BPM: uma investigação longitudinal sobre os resultados da aplicação da árvore da realidade atual em uma UPC / BPM diagnostic: a longitudinal reserch on the application of the current reality tree in a CRU

Alves, Elisa França Leôncio 28 August 2017 (has links)
Among the phases of the Business Process Management (BPM) lifecycle, the process diagnostics phase can facilitate the change in order to support future efforts to increase productivity, standardize the execution of work and create a more efficient work routine. As a diagnostic technique, CRT (Current Reality Tree) is broader because it demonstrates the overall picture of the company\'s situation. The research question that intends to answer with this work is: how the diagnosis of the Current Reality Tree can promote improvements in a Clinical Research Unit (CRU)? The objective is to analyze the relationship between the application of CTR diagnosis and the improvements performed in a UPC. For that, a case study was used as a method in a UPC that used CRT as diagnostic tool for the implementation of organizational improvements. The results of this study present the diagnosis of CRT in a CRU and describe the improvements that occurred in the organization from the application of this technique. In addition, it is identified which BPM success factors contributed to the application of ARA. It is concluded that the use of ARA as a diagnostic technique, besides providing an analysis that considers the real needs of the organization, can be related to the success of the implementation of improvements. This study should provide support to UPC managers concerning to the effectiveness of the administrative practices that may be adopted, and it is important for researchers working with process and BPM diagnoses to introduce the effectiveness of the use of ARA as a technique and to relate the improvements obtained with the critical BPM factors.

Process Innovation as Creative Problem-Solving: An Experimental Study of Textual Descriptions and Diagrams

Figl, Kathrin, Recker, Jan January 2016 (has links) (PDF)
The use of process models to support business analysts' idea-generation tasks has been a long-standing topic of interest in process improvement. We examine how two types of representations of organizational processes - textual and diagrammatic - assist analysts in developing innovative solutions to process-redesign tasks. The results of our study clarify the types of process-redesign ideas generated by analysts who work with text versus those who work with models. We find that the volume and originality of process-redesign ideas do not differ significantly but that appropriateness of ideas varies. We discuss the implications of these findings for research and practice in process improvement.
