This study aimed to verify the influence of the Machine-Tool/ Cutting Tool/ Fixing Device and Parts rigidness on the causing of geographic and dimension errors in the process of tilting. It was determined the defluxion of the system through experimental values obtained by applying statistic forces in 5 points of the part. The shape has 17 and 35mm diameter and 240mm of length. It was calculated the flexibility of the tilting component tool, plate and the modifying tool, and the defluxion in all points of the applying forces varied from 49,05 N to 981981 N. The e was an estimative of the cutting power of these parts, and a comparison was made between practical, theoretical and factored values with the part fixed between place and point. It concluded that the rigidness of the system, in special in the part, has a great influence in the causing of errors of the tilted parts. The equation used for the calculation is possible for predicting dimensional errors and the shape of a tilted part.

Recherche sur l’apprentissage de l’espagnol au gabon : analyse phonétique contrastive de l’espagnol, du français et du punu / Research on learning Spanish in Gabon : analyzes phonetic contrastive of Spanish, french and punu

Mboumba, Laurence G. 19 February 2011 (has links)
This present work tries to give an explanation to difficulties that meet the gabonese learners in learning spanish, foreign language. In its development, this thesis draws up a panorama on the situation socio-linguistic of Gabon, on the concepts mother tongue, foreign language and on the models of analysis: Contrastive Analysis, errors Analisis and Interlanguage. This thesis gives also a vision of the three languages, Spanish, French and punu like autonomous systems, with particular characteristics which present certain similarities. From the written productions of the pupils of third and terminal, this thesis proposes to analyze the interferences produced by learners. A sample of 100 copies of duties has constituted the tool of this study. Through these productions, we have identified two types of errors: interlingual and intralingual. The first come from the contact of french with the Spanish, and the seconds of the Spanish language. This study leads to an essential work: to give proposals for the improvement of teaching/learning by the approach of tasks in focusing teaching/learning on the pupil.

Using production and online sentence-processing paradigms to investigate young children's restriction of linguistic generalizations

Blything, Ryan January 2017 (has links)
A crucial component of child language acquisition is successful generalization. First, a speaker must acquire abstract knowledge of how a particular linguistic-structure conveys meaning, and use this knowledge to generalize the structure to new lexical-items. For example, a speaker can use abstract knowledge of a SUBJECT-VERB-OBJECT structure to produce a sentence such as The man rolled the ball, even if the verb roll has never been encountered in this structure before. Second, a learner must appropriately restrict ‘overgeneralizations’ whereby a structure is used with an unsuitable verb (e.g. *The man fell the boy). The most prominent theories regarding restriction of overgeneralizations are based on frequency of use and (semantic, phonological or pragmatic) compatibility between the item and construction. Since developmental evidence for these accounts is mostly limited to the judgment paradigm, which is unsuitable for testing children aged 5 and under, the aim of this thesis was to examine whether these restriction mechanisms are used by children as young as 3 or 4 – whose generalization mechanisms are at an earlier stage of development - and to develop new paradigms for doing so. Study 1 used a production priming paradigm to examine children’s (aged 3-4; 5-6) restrictions of verbal un- prefixation (e.g., *unbend). Children’s production probability of verbs in un- form (e.g., *unbend) was negatively predicted by the frequency of the target verb in bare form (i.e., bend/s/ed/ing) and by the frequency of synonyms to a verb’s un- form (e.g., straighten for *unbend). Additionally, grammaticality judgments from older children (aged 5-6) revealed that preferences for un- forms were positively related to the extent to which the verb’s semantics overlapped with a covert, probabilistic semantic “cryptotype” of meanings thought to be shared by verbs that are grammatical in un- form (e.g., tie, pack, twist, screw, cover). Study 2 investigated whether overgeneralization errors in the domain of English past-tense (i.e., when ‘regular’ inflections are applied to verbs that require ‘irregular’ inflection; e.g., *sleeped, *throwed) are best attributed to analogy across exemplars, or to a default, “add –ed” rule applied regardless of a verb’s memorized associations. Past-tense forms of novel verbs were elicited by showing children (aged 3-4; 5-6; 6-7; 9-10) animations of an animal performing a novel action described with a novel verb (e.g., gezz; chake) and asking what the animal ‘did yesterday’. A verb’s likelihood of receiving regular inflection (e.g., gezzed, chaked) was positively associated with its phonological similarity to existing regular verbs, consistent with the analogy-based approach. Study 3 investigated the suitability of an online measure of sentence processing, namely Event Related Potentials (ERP), to investigate the role of verb-frequency in restricting transitive overgeneralizations. In line with previous studies, ‘P600’ and ‘LAN’ components were evoked in response to overgeneralization errors. However, the magnitudes of these components were not sensitive to a manipulation of verb-frequency (e.g., *The clown laughed the boy vs. *The clown giggled the boy), raising doubt toward the suitability of ERP for examining the relative acceptability of overgeneralization errors. Overall, the research indicates that even young children’s generalizations are sensitive to the linguistic input (i.e., statistical regularities and generalized semantic or phonological patterns of use) and are not well explained by a system of abstract rules that act on discrete categories, whether this applies to syntactic categories (e.g., add -ed to any instance of the category “VERB”) or discrete verb classes (e.g., a narrow-range rule that acts invariably on any verb that is part of an ‘alternating’ verb-class).

A linguistic analysis of Francis Bacon's contribution to three Shakespeare plays : The Comedy Of Errors, Love's Labour's Lost, and The Tempest

Clarke, Barry R. January 2014 (has links)
The aim of this work is to investigate the possibility that Francis Bacon was a contributor in the writing of three Shakespeare plays: The Comedy of Errors, Love’s Labour’s Lost, and The Tempest. In order to proceed, I develop a new Rare Collocation Profiling (RCP) method using Chadwick–Healey’s Early English Books Online (EEBO) database to identify those collocations in a target text that are rare. I then list the probable sources of a target and the writers who possibly borrowed from it. In this way, I obtain a DNA-type profile in relation to the target text for all frequently occurring writers that are returned by the searches. However, while collocation analysis is traditionally confined to a database of known dramatists, I widen the search to include all fully searchable texts in EEBO. My test case is the long poem A Funeral Elegye (1612), and my method supports Brian Vickers’ conclusion that John Ford is a better authorial candidate than William Shakespeare. I also analyse two previously unattributed pamphlets: the Gesta Grayorum (1688), an account of the 1594–5 Gray’s Inn revels; and the True Declaration (1610), a Virginia Company propaganda pamphlet, and I conclude from my method that Francis Bacon is the only candidate for having compiled the former and that he was a major contributor to the latter. Two of the Shakespeare plays, The Comedy of Errors and Love’s Labour’s Lost have previously been associated with the 1594–5 Gray’s Inn revels. I analyse the three volumes of Nelson and Elliott’s Records of Early English Drama: Inns of Court (NE) to find that the number of professional companies that played at the Inns of Court (one of which is Gray’s Inn) before 1606 has been overestimated. A document shows that Shakespeare’s company, the Lord Chamberlain’s Men, were playing at Greenwich on 28 December 1594 when, as the Gesta Grayorum reports, The Comedy of Errors was performed at Gray’s Inn, and the circumstances do not allow Shakespeare to have been present. The evidence suggests that the play was first enacted by Inns of Court players rather than the Lord Chamberlain’s Men. Inns of Court plays were often based on translations of classical works and usually commented on the succession question. I argue that The Comedy of Errors displays both of these characteristics and so was likely written with the revels in mind. Also, due to certain rare parallels between Francis Bacon’s speeches at the revels and Love’s Labour’s Lost, I claim that the play was intended for performance there but cancelled. Referring to the results of RCP, I suggest that Francis Bacon not only compiled the Gesta Grayorum but also contributed to the writing of these two plays. I also show that my new method identifies two non-members of the Inns of Court, Thomas Heywood and Thomas Dekker, as later revisers of these plays. In the final chapters, I improve on the dating evidence for The Tempest by showing that Caliban’s speech on edible items relies on knowledge of the Bermudan cahow, a bird whose behaviour was unknown in England before September 1610. The application of RCP to The Tempest confirms that William Strachey’s ‘True Reportory’, a 20,000-word secret report sent back from the Virginia colony to the London Virginia Company, was beyond reasonable doubt a source for the play. RCP also reveals Francis Bacon as a contributor to the writing of the play. I also apply the new method to the Virginia Company’s True Declaration, a pamphlet that almost certainly relied on ‘True Reportory’, and reveal Bacon as a contributor. This means that he must have inspected Strachey’s ‘True Reportory’, a source for The Tempest. I give strong reasons why Shakespeare would have been prohibited from gaining access to Strachey’s restricted company report. Finally, I suggest that The Tempest was used as a political tool to promote England’s influence in the New World, and although Strachey’s ‘True Reportory’ could not have been released for inspection, the Virginia Company must have cooperated in supplying information for the writing of the play.

Convolutional neural network reliability on an APSoC platform a traffic-sign recognition case study / Confiabilidade de uma rede neural convolucional em uma plataforma APSoC: um estudo para reconhecimento de placas de trânsito

Lopes, Israel da Costa January 2017 (has links)
Deep learning has a plethora of applications in computer vision, speech recognition, natural language processing and other applications of commercial interest. Computer vision, in turn, has many applications in distinct areas, ranging from entertainment applications to relevant and critical applications. Face recognition and manipulation (Snapchat), and object description in pictures (OneDrive) are examples of entertainment applications. Industrial inspection, medical diagnostics, object recognition in images captured by satellites (used in rescue and defense missions), autonomous cars and Advanced Driver-Assistance System (ADAS) are examples of relevant and critical applications. Some of the most important integrated circuit companies around the world, such as Xilinx, Intel and Nvidia are waging in dedicated platforms for accelerating the training and deployment of deep learning and other computer vision algorithms for autonomous cars and ADAS due to their high computational requirement. Thus, implementing a deep learning system that achieves high performance with low area utilization and power consumption costs is a big challenge. Besides, electronic equipment for automotive industry must be reliable even under radiation effects, manufacturing defects and aging effects, inasmuch as if a system failure occurs, a car accident can happen. Thus, a Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) VHSIC (Very High Speed Integrated Circuit) Hardware Description Language (VHDL) automatic generator was developed to reduce the design time associated to the implementation of deep learning algorithms in hardware. As a case study, a CNN was trained by the Convolutional Architecture for Fast Feature Embedding (Caffe) framework, in order to classify 6 traffic-sign classes, achieving an average accuracy of about 89.8% on the German Traffic-Sign Recognition Benchmark (GTSRB) dataset, which contains trafficsigns images in complex scenarios. This CNN was implemented on a Zynq-7000 All- Programmable System-on-Chip (APSoC), achieving about 313 Frames Per Second (FPS) on 32x32-normalized images, with the APSoC consuming only 2.057W, while an embedded Graphics Processing Unit (GPU), in its minimum operation mode, consumes 10W. The proposed CNN reliability was investigated by random piled-up fault injection by emulation in the Programming Logic (PL) configuration bits of the APSoC, achieving 80.5% of reliability under Single-Bit-Upset (SBU) where both critical Silent Data Corruptions (SDCs) and time-outs were considered. Regarding the multiple faults, the proposed CNN reliability exponentially decreases with the number of piled-up faults. Hence, the proposed CNN reliability must be increased by using hardening techniques during the design flow.
