Goal-setting, self-efficacy, and learning performance: A causal model.

The purpose of this study was to confirm the structural relationship of goal setting variables to performance. Performance was measured in learning mathematics lessons. Linear structural modeling techniques were used to evaluate the goal setting model. The exogenous variables were prior performance, goal difficulty, and self-evaluation. The endogenous variables were self-expectancy, self-efficacy, personal goal, and performance. There was support for the model of goal setting as proposed in this study. The nested alternate structural model for goal setting was the most parsimonious model. This model evidenced a negative effect of easy specific assigned goals on self efficacy. Vague and challenging specific goals had a positive effect on self efficacy. Prior performance, assigned goal, and self evaluation had positive path coefficients to self efficacy which, in turn, had a positive path coefficient to performance. Descriptive univariate statistics tended to support the theory of goal setting. These findings corroborate the results of the structural equation analysis.

Preliminary studies attested extensive theoretical and bibliographic production alluding to public basic education and often in higher education. In the light of dialectical perspective sought the construction of theoretical and conceptual frameworks that guide studies on University Management in Brazil (2003-2013); with the objective to identify and analyze these concepts in Official Documents; Articles in the journal evaluation; Posters presented at the Symposia of the Congress of ANPAE; the contribution of the theory of Leontiev Activity; the similarities between the different theoretical contributions. We opted for a methodology of qualitative-critical nature of documentary-bibliographic database using the content analysis (Franco 2005). The construction of the object was marked by a literature review on the portals of CAPES and Google and theoretical contributions from three fields Scientific: Administration (Chiavenato - 2014 and Silva - 2001); Education (Paro-Sander- 1986 and 1995) and Psicologia - Activity Theory (Leontiev, 1983) .The empirical and theoretical corpus was built for six Official Documents (LDB 1961 Law n.5540 - 1968 Constitution 1988 LDBEN 1996 , PNE-2001-2010 and Decree n.3860-2001), on 13 articles of the journal Evaluation and by 18 Posters annals of Symposia of the Congress of ANPAE (2003-2013) .DOS theoretical fields of Administration, Education and Psychology - Activity Theory, we identified 94 terms- concepts depicting the Administration and the university management, with 06 common: autonomy, institutional assessment, democratization, strategic planning, quality and quality education. About the Author-s Works cited as theoretical contributions were identified 89, 39 in Articles 51 and 09 in Pôsteres. Apenas Author @ s - Works were cited more often: Bourdieu, Pierre (1974 and 1983); Brazil-Documents (1995,1996, 2002, 2004, 2006 and 2007); CLARK, B.R (1995 and 1996).; DAYS NEPHEW, Joseph (2000a and 2000b); DURHAM, Eunice (1998 and 2002); Freire, Paulo (1996 and 1997); LIMA, Paul (2009e 2010); MERCOSUR Documents (2008a, 2008b and 2006); MORAES, Roque (2003 and 2006). These 09 references author @ s - Works of the total of 89 identified are the theoretical references of studies on University Management in Brazil, from 2003 to 2013, in the universe of this investigation. / Esta tese, ENTRE ADMINISTRAÇÃO E GESTÃO UNIVERSITÁRIA - Demarcação teórico-conceitual nas legislações e produções bibliográficas 2003-2013, Linha de Pesquisa Teorias da Educação e Processos Pedagógicos, traz para debate os conceitos historicamente construídos de Administração e Gestão. Estudos preliminares atestaram uma vasta produção teórico-bibliográfica alusiva à educação básica pública e, amiúde também, à educação superior. À luz da perspectiva dialética, buscou-se a construção das bases teórico-conceituais que orientam os estudos sobre Gestão Universitária no Brasil (2003-2013), tendo como objetivos identificar e analisar estes conceitos em Documentos Oficiais, nos Artigos da Revista Avaliação e nos Pôsteres apresentados nos Simpósios dos Congressos da ANPAE. A partir da contribuição da Teoria da Atividade de Leontiev e das aproximações entre as diferentes contribuições teóricas, optou-se por uma metodologia de natureza críticoqualitativa de base documental-bibliográfica, com base na análise de conteúdo (Franco 2005). A construção do objeto pautou-se em uma revisão bibliográfica nos portais da CAPES e no Google além de contribuições teóricas advindas de três campos científicos: Administração (Chiavenato - 2014 e Silva - 2001) ; Educação (Paro-1986 e Sander-1995 ) e a Psicologia- Teoria da Atividade (Leontiev-1983). O corpus empírico-teórico foi construído por seis Documentos Oficiais (LDB 1961, Lei n.5540-1968, Constituição 1988, LDBen 1996, PNE-2001-2010 e o Decreto n.3860-2001), por 13 Artigos da Revista Avaliação e por 18 Pôsteres em anais dos Simpósios dos Congressos da ANPAE (2003-2013). Dos campos teóricos da Administração, Educação e Psicologia - Teoria da Atividade, foram identificados 94 termos-conceitos alusivos à Administração e à Gestão Universitária, sendo 06 comuns: autonomia, avaliação institucional, democratização, planejamento estratégico, qualidade e qualidade de ensino. Quanto aos autores-obras citados como aportes teóricos, foram identificados 89, sendo 39 nos artigos e 51 nos Pôsteres. Apenas 09 autores-obras foram citados mais vezes: BOURDIEU, Pierre (1974 e 1983) Brasil - Documentos (1995, 1996, 2002, 2004, 2006 e 2007), CLARK, B.R. (1995 e 1996), DIAS SOBRINHO, José (2000a e 2000b); DURHAM, Eunice (1998 e 2002), FREIRE, Paulo (1996 e 1997), LIMA, Paulo (2009e 2010), além de MERCOSUL - Documentos (2008a, 2008b e 2006) e MORAES, Roque (2003 e 2006).
