No. of bitstreams: 1 Auxiliadora Maria Martins da Silva.pdf: 1134606 bytes, checksum: d7ebd54472b601e864842b1c653769ba (MD5) Previous issue date: 2005-12-21 / The present work searched to investigate as the concept of black ethnic would be being propagated for didactic books of Sciences and the implications of this propagation for the pedagogical work of the professors, for believing that it is through the contact with our body and with the body of the other that differences fenotic are transformed into overvalued superiority and they will be white and lowered and undervalued they will be black. Such fact in them motivated the accomplishment of this study, considering the pedagogical speech of books of Sciences and the relations between physical differences, race and ethnic in the texts and illustrations presented there. The study it was carried through in a municipal public school of the city of Recife, in 1º year of 4º cycle of Basic Education, considering being the human body the main curricular content of this group, during all the school year. To get the desired objective, we use as methodological support the Interactive Methodology (OLIVEIRA, 2005), through comments, interviews, questionnaires and documentary analysis. With these procedures we can identify the conceptions of the didactic book authors, of the professors and the pupils concerning the manifestations of racism. We evidence that in general rule the ethnic concept does not appear and is not worked of explicit form in didactic books, as much in speaks of the professors and how much in the ones of the pupils, although many scientists and intellectuals using in substitution to the race concept. Through collected and analyzed data, it is possible to affirm that in the daily one of this school, the process of didactic transposition in disciplines of Science, on the content human body is marked by the propagation of preconception and discrimination, consisting in institutional racism of not contemplating excellent aspects of the corporeidade and black identities. As recommendations for advance of the knowledge, we consider excellent the investment in the continued formation of professors, in way who can arrive in port to its to make pedagogical, the education of the ethnic-racial relations that it makes possible to reconstruct those propagated by didactic books of prejudiced and discriminatory form as well as, to proceed to a criterions choice from these same books.

Clinical theory development: a Delphi study of influential factors

West, Darwin R. January 1900 (has links)
Doctor of Philosophy / Department of Family Studies and Human Services / William H. Meredith / This study made use of a three round Delphi survey process to explore the influential factors in the personal clinical theory development of marriage and family therapists. The sample consisted of marriage and family therapy trainees in COAMFTE accredited masters programs around the country. The initial round began with 64 items and resulted in 94 items. The last round resulted in 94 items being rated as to their amount of influence upon the personal clinical theory development of the trainees. A core set of variables were identified that were seen to be highly influential in the theory development process. Panelists were able to reach a strong consensus on all but one of these variables. A much larger set of variables were deemed moderately high in importance and varied in the overall degree of consensus that was obtained among all panelists. The results of this study, in terms of personal clinical theory development, point to the power of the personal relationships formed in the training process. Multiple variables related to the power of personal relationships with MFT program supervisors/professors. Key graduate and undergraduate courses were identified as being highly influential. Recommendations for future study, and program emphasis are offered.

Global Education for Young Children: A Curriculum Unit for the Kindergarten Classroom

Cannon, Ann Davis 01 January 1984 (has links)
The purpose of this project was to develop a curriculum for global education appropriate for kindergarten children. A review of relevant literature provided concepts and themes that researchers consider essential components for inclusion in any global education program. Recommendations were made as to when and how the subject should be introduced in the classroom. Activities emphasized three important themes: We are one race, the human race, living on a small planet, earth; people are more alike than they are different, basic human needs bind people together; and, people of the world, even with different points of view, can live, work together, and learn from each other. These themes were introduced through the study of three countries; Africa, Japan, and Mexico. Conclusions arrived at through the review of the literature and development of the curriculum unit were included as were recommendations for possible improvement and expansion of this project.

Cultivating Native American Cultures: An Integrated Resource Curriculum

Bailie, Susan Davis 01 January 1993 (has links)
The purpose of this project was to compile activities and information that will be useful to educators in teaching about Native American tribes. These activities attempt to emphasize the multicultural aspects of Native tribes, as well as, teaching accurate historical data, and stressing the contributions and similarities of Native American cultures to mainstream society. In addition, this project utilizes the Indian Awareness Inventory found in Bulletin No. 84, Teaching About Native Americans (1990) from the National Council for the Social Studies. This inventory is intended for use with the student studying Native American history and culture and will create criteria for teaching students of all cultures about Native Americans.

Teaching Map Concepts to Poor Readers

Meadows, Cynthia J 01 January 1979 (has links)
There is a concern that children with poor, i.e., below grade level reading ability, have trouble in content area subjects. The subjects of social studies, science, and health are often taught in the elementary grades through the use of textbooks. Because these texts prior to 1979 were written with a readability level at or above the grade level for which the book was designed, the poorer reader cannot read, and therefore learn, the subject matter presented.Children need knowledge of these content areas to function in today's society. They also need the ability to read to increase their knowledge and to develop their interest in these areas. Our society also expects that certain aspects of social studies, science, and health will be taught to children. As teachers there is a responsibility to teach these objectives. The children are also graded and evaluated at the end of each school year in these subject areas. They I therefore I must acquire this knowledge to perform well on these tests. However, children with poor reading ability face difficulties acquiring this knowledge through a textbook oriented curriculum. The problem to be dealt with in this project is how to teach social studies to children with poor reading ability. The ojective is to aid these children in obtaining an understanding of specific social studies concepts. Few materials in the content area are available in Duval County for working with the reader who is below grade level.Specifically, this project will develop a curriculum of teaching techniques and materials to use with third-graders in the social studies area of map skills. This area was chosen because it is tested extensively on the third-grade Stanford Achievement Test. These materials will be used with a class of thirty third-grade students at Hyde Grove School in Duval County, Florida. These students are poor readers who read at least one grade level below their current grade in school, as measured by the Stanford Achievement Test reading section. The curriculum will attempt to facilitate map concept attainment for these children.

Sixth-Grade Map and Globe Skills Curriculum

Miles-English, Karen Ann 01 January 1989 (has links)
There has been much concern recently about the lack of basic map and globe skills among America's youth. Map and globe skills are a basic tool of social studies used throughout the rest of students' academic, professional and personal lives. These skills incorporate the development of problem-solving and critical thinking skills. The focus of this project was to develop a map and globe skills curriculum for teaching these skills to sixth-graders in Putnam County, Florida, when they first encounter daily social studies classes.
