Identificação dos cuidados à saúde prestados, pela equipe de enfermagem, aos idosos residentes em uma instituição de longa permanência filantrópica do município de São Paulo / Identification of the health care given by the nursing team to elderly residents of filantropic institutions of long permanence in the city of São Paulo

Mirela Bertoli Passador 03 December 2008 (has links)
At the present time there is no information about how many people live in long term care permanence institutions are in Brazil, nor how they live in these institutions. Brazilian government considers theses institutions as intruments of social attention, not of health responsibility and, thus, there is no obligation of maintaining health professionals in these facilities. However, through professional service, during visits to, aproximately, four hundred long permanence institutions for senior citizens, there was always a licensed professional nurse assisting the elderly residents. Objectives- - Identify the meaning of the term health care for the licensed nurses who work at an elderly long term care institution and what health cares are given by them at the institution Method Qualitative research, with exploratory mather. The collection of data was presented by focal groups, in which the themes for discussion were based on three questions about the activities developed and the definition of health care. A structured questionaire was also used as a data collection instrument, containing eight questions related to population identification. The population was constituted by three Lincese Professional Nurses who work at a long permanence institution for senior citizens. The data were analyzed qualitatively using the content analysis Results The subjects have the concept that health care, such as they describe the health care offered, as the completion of technical procedures directed to the satisfaction of the basic daily life activities. A small number of professional cited activities as emotional support and leisure as health care. Conclusion The nurse aid appraises cares of health from its experience of formation and work, centered in the accomplishment of procedures technician. Psicossociais cares are related by the few professionals, mainly oldest and with more time of work in the institution.

Estimated Supply Response of Sugar Beet Production to Changes in Profitableness, Box Elder and Cache Countries, Utah, 1967

Spaulding, Brent W. 01 May 1968 (has links)
The relative profitability of sugar beets and competitive crops were studied in Box Elder and Cache counties , Utah . Profitability ratios based on enterprise budget data and resource use requirements were used as a basis for comparison . Sugar beets was found to be more profitable than competing crops in returns per acre , in returns to water used and in returns to fixed investment and management. However, sugar beets was found to be less profitable than certain other crops in returns to operating capital and returns to labor . Also , on land rated low in productivity sugar beets was found to be less profitable than most competing crops . Linear programming techniques were used in studying the production response of sugar beets at various price levels . An aggregated supply curve was developed showing the acreage response in sugar beet production at varying sugar beet prices for the two county area . The price range over which sugar beet acreage was responsive ranged from $11 .70 per ton to a high of $16.70 per ton where the maximum acreage permitted in the model was attained .

Elder Abuse: A Bibliographic Investigation / Les mauvais traitements envers les personnes âgées : Une enquête bibliographique

Maley, Desmond 19 November 2002 (has links)
Over the past few months, I have been assembling a bibliography on elder abuse that will soon be published on the Web site of the Ontario Network for the Prevention of Elder Abuse (www.onpea.org). I brought to this inquiry the tools I developed a decade ago during a sabbatical I spent developing subject-literature expertise in gerontology. That study was focussed exclusively on the print literature. Today, however, no bibliography would be complete without addressing the multifaceted nature of communication. Not only is there the traditional “hard copy” bibliography, there are videos, the Internet, and even the telephone. (Phone Busters, operated by the Ontario Provincial Police, does research on telemarketing scams and seniors.) I should emphasize this bibliography is not meant to be comprehensive, but a “brief bibliography” along the lines of the excellent series published by the Association for Gerontology in Higher Education.

Norman Olsson, Lena, Rosell, Erika January 2011 (has links)
Purpose of this thesis is that from a personnel perspective, examine and describe the state of knowledge in the home care work with elderly clients who have alcohol problems. The purpose is highlighted by the following questions: 1) How is work with health and care of elderly clients in generally described in the research? 2) How is the elderly client’s autonomy and quality of life in general affected when in need of home care from the eldercare? 3) How is work with health and care of clients with alcohol problems described in the research? 4) How is the elderly client’s autonomy and quality of life in general affected when in need of care from the eldercare if the patient has an alcohol problem? In order to answer the questions a selective knowledge review consisting of 11 selected primary documents was chosen. The purpose and questions in this thesis were analyzed and answered by social construction theory and DBO theory, an action theory. The result of the knowledge review shows that: the relationship between caregivers and elderly clients is crucial for the client’s autonomy and quality of life. If the relationship is bad it will affect the patient’s autonomy negatively as the client can be seen to be the dependent part, and have the client also a alcohol-related problem the relationship may deteriorate when the caregivers in some cases do not know how to respond to these clients. Relationships are built through time, continuity and loyalty. In a changing and flexible work as home care work is, time, continuity and loyalty could be scarce, much depending on how the eldercare is managed and organized. Work with clients with alcohol problems may be a growing problem that the eldercare in each community must decide how to deal with. Should different lifestyles be accepted among various clients or shall all clients who are in need of eldercare just get the same kind of help as everybody else with no acceptance of different needs? How shall the future eldercare be organized?

An Investigation of Learning Styles and Elders' Use in Information Communication and Technology

Chiang, Yin-Hui 25 January 2010 (has links)
This study aimed to realize the relationship between learning styles and use of information communication and technologies (ICTs) of older adults in Taiwan, specifically how the learning styles of the elders predict their use of ICTs. Data was collected from a sample of 313 senior adults who are above 55 years of age in the senior centers in Kaohsiung City. The instrument of the Elders¡¦ Access and Use of ICT Questionnaire was developed by the author bases on Selwyn, Gorard & Furlong¡¦s Adult Learning @ Home Questionnaire 2002 and related literature. In addition, the researcher also investigated the learning style preferences using Kolb Learning Style Inventory. The findings from the research summarized as follows: (a) most of the participants were the ¡§Accommodators¡¨, (b) in terms of access and use of ICTs, the older adults had more access to communication technologies than to information technologies , (c) receiving the videio/visual informtation is the main activity when elders used ICTs (d) and there was a significantly positive correlation between concrete experiences/ active experimentation and their frequency of ICTs use while a significantly negative correlation between abstract conceptualization/ reflective observation and frequency of ICTs use. Specifically, (e) active experience is to the most significant predictor to the older adults¡¦ ICTs use. Recommendations were also provided based on the findings of this study. It is recommended the the government should encourage elders under 64 years old to use the ICTs, viewing them as important human resources and and provide assistance to retrain their IT skills . For the elders who were above 65 years of age, they should receive more opportunities to access ICTs and develop positive attitudes towards the use of ICTs. Results from this study provided suggestions and implications to the government, institutions and organizations on ICT policy implementations to make elders become productive human resources, and to help them age productively to achieve self-realization for the purpose of life long learning.

Comparing Needed and Actual Knowledge of Elder Abuse for Law Enforcement Officers, APS Workers, and Students in Criminal Justice and Social Work

Tapp, Susannah 18 December 2013 (has links)
A sample of APS workers, law enforcement officers, criminal justice and social work students were surveyed. Participants were asked how much knowledge they believed professionals working in their respective fields had about elder abuse and how much those same professionals needed to know. The differences between needed and possessed knowledge, also referred to as level of anomie, was compared across groups. Students in both groups believed those working in their fields had significantly less knowledge than they needed on all elements of responding to elder abuse. APS workers and law enforcement officers felt those in their fields had enough knowledge on some elements of responding to elder abuse but not others. APS workers had the least total anomie, and criminal justice students had the most. All groups experiences significant levels of anomie on some elements of responding to elder abuse and neglect, suggesting more training is needed.

A Survey of Georgia Adult Protective Services Staff Regarding Elder Abuse Laws and Policies: Determining Training Needs

Kerr, Judith 16 November 2010 (has links)
Abstract Background: The aging population is a rapidly growing demographic. Isolation and limited autonomy render many of the elderly vulnerable to abuse, neglect and exploitation. As the population grows, so does the need for Adult Protective Services (APS). This study was conducted to examine current knowledge of Georgia older adult protection laws and to identify training opportunities to better prepare the APS workforce in cases detection and intervention. Methods: A primary survey was developed in partnership with the Georgia Division of Aging Services’ leadership to identify key training priority issues APS caseworkers and investigators. A 47-item, electronic questionnaire was delivered (using Psychdata) to all APS employees via work- issued email accounts. Descriptive analyses, t-tests, and chi-square analyses were used to determine APS employees’ baseline knowledge of Georgia’s elder abuse policies, laws, and practices as well as examine associations of age, ethnicity, and formal education level with knowledge. A p-value of <0 >.05 and 95% confidence intervals were used to determine statistical significance of the analyses performed. Results: In total, 92 out of 175 APS staff responded to the survey (53% response rate). The majority of respondents were Caucasian (56%) women (92%). For over half the survey items, a paired sample t-tests revealed significant differences between what APS staff reported as known and what APS staff members indicated they needed to know more about in terms of elder abuse and current policies. Chi-square tests revealed that non-Caucasians significantly preferred video conferencing as a training format (44% compared to 18%), [χ2 (1) = 7.102, p < .008] whereas Caucasians preferred asynchronous online learning formats (55% compared to 28%) [χ2 (1) =5.951, p < .015]. Conclusions: Results from this study provides the Georgia Division of Aging with insights into specific content areas that can be emphasized in future trainings. Soliciting input from intended trainees allows public health educators to tailor and improve training sessions. Trainee input may result in optimization of attendance, knowledge acquisition, and intervention practices regarding APS service delivery. This in turn can enhance APS staff efficiency and response to cases of violence against older adults.
