Influência das edificações na propagação de ondas eletromagnéticas geradas por descargas atmosféricas. / The influence of edifications on the propagation of electromagnetic waves generated by atmospheric discharges.

Descargas atmosféricas representam uma das principais causas de interrupção no fornecimento de energia para os consumidores, e embora tenham efeitos mais intensos quando incidem diretamente nas redes elétricas, é o caso das descargas indiretas que chama mais atenção, já que elas ocorrem com maior frequência. Tanto as primeiras descargas que geralmente ocorrem com maior intensidade de corrente, quanto as descargas subsequentes que têm menor tempo de frente associado, irradiam campos eletromagnéticos que ao se acoplarem com as redes elétricas geram surtos que podem causar tanto a interrupção do fornecimento de energia quanto danos a equipamentos. A presença de edifícios na região de incidência da descarga atmosférica afeta a propagação das ondas irradiadas, criando diferentes padrões de campos resultantes, os quais são responsáveis por sobretensões induzidas. Embora tanto a descarga atmosférica em si quanto a caracterização do ambiente ao seu redor sejam de natureza complexa para sua representação, ferramentas computacionais bem estruturadas podem representar o fenômeno de forma satisfatória, como é o caso da ferramenta computacional desenvolvida neste trabalho utilizando o método das diferenças finitas no domínio do tempo. O presente trabalho apresenta dois estudos para verificação da influência de edificações na propagação de campo irradiado por descargas atmosféricas. O primeiro estudo avaliou o comportamento das componentes do campo elétrico e do campo magnético irradiados, comparando resultados obtidos com e sem a presença de edificações numa pequena região. Tanto os parâmetros geométricos dos três edifícios considerados neste estudo, como a permissividade e a condutividade elétrica do solo e dos edifícios, foram variados para identificar a sua influência nos campos irradiados. Os resultados mostraram diferentes comportamentos das componentes dos campos resultantes em função da variação desses parâmetros, observando-se inversão de polaridade, oscilações na forma de onda e tanto redução quanto aumento do valor de campo. O segundo estudo avaliou um caso mais geral em que a componente vertical de campo elétrico foi tomada em nove pontos diferentes de uma região tipicamente urbana, com a presença de 102 edifícios. Os valores de campo avaliados em cada ponto, dez metros acima do solo, consideraram a incidência aleatória de 28 descargas atmosféricas distintas, cada uma atingindo o topo de um dado edifício. Os resultados desse segundo estudo mostraram que exceto nos casos em que a descarga atmosférica ocorre próximo do ponto analisado, há reduções significativas do campo elétrico vertical. Desta forma é possível perceber que não apenas a existência de edifícios, mas a sua concentração com diferentes características elétricas e geométricas, podem influenciar significativamente a propagação de campo irradiado. Os valores calculados a partir da ferramenta desenvolvida podem ser usados em conjunto com modelos de acoplamento, para o cálculo de sobretensões induzidas em redes elétricas, em situações realistas com configurações mais complexas. / Atmospheric discharges represent one of the main causes of interruption in power supply to consumers, and although they have more intense effects when direct impact on energy lines, are the case of indirect discharges that draws more attention, since they occur more frequently. Both the first discharges, occurring generally with greater intensity of current, as subsequent discharges that have shorter front time associated, radiate electromagnetic fields which engage with the electrical networks generating surges that can cause so much disruption of power supply as damage to the equipment. The presence of buildings in the lightning incident area affects the propagation of the radiated waves, creating different patterns of resultant fields, which are responsible for induced overvoltages. Although both the lightning itself and characterization of the surrounding environment are of a complex nature for its representation, structured computational tools can represent satisfactorily the phenomenon, such as the software tool developed here using the finite difference time domain method. This work presents two studies to verify the influence of buildings in the propagation of lightning irradiated field. The first study assessed the behavior of the components of the electric field and magnetic field irradiated, by comparing results obtained with and without the presence of buildings in a small region. Both the geometric parameters of the three buildings considered in this study, as the permittivity and electrical conductivity of the soil and buildings, were changed to identify their influence on radiated fields. The results showed different behaviors of the components of the resulting field due to the variation of these parameters, observing polarity inversion, oscillations in the waveform and either a reduction or increase of the field value. The second study evaluated a more general case where the vertical component of the electric field was taken at nine different points of a typical urban area, in the presence of 102 buildings. The field values evaluated at each point, ten meters above the ground, considered the effect of 28 different random lightning, which hit the top of a given building. The results of this second study showed that except in cases where atmospheric discharge occurs near the analyzed point, there are significant reductions of the vertical electric field. Thus it can be seen that not only the existence of buildings, but its concentration with different electrical and geometrical characteristics, can significantly influence the propagation of irradiated field. The values calculated from the developed tool can be used in conjunction with coupling models for calculating induced overvoltages on power lines, in realistic situations with complex configurations.

Caractérisation numérique de l'exposition électromagnétique des personnes en bandes HF et VHF / Numerical characterization of an electromagnetic exposure on humans in HF and VHF frequency bands

Dans les environnements militaires, et plus particulièrement dans le domaine terrestre, de nombreux systèmes radioélectriques HF (de 3 à 30 MHz), VHF (de 30 à 300 MHz) et UHF (de 300 à 3000 MHz) sont utilisés. Ces systèmes remplissent plusieurs fonctions (communication longue et courte distance, brouillage, radar, etc ...) et peuvent parfois cohabiter sur un même porteur. Ces différentes fonctions utilisent plusieurs antennes et augmentent les risques de surexposition électromagnétique des opérateurs. Des normes civiles et militaires proposent des limites sur les champs électromagnétiques appliqués et sur des grandeurs dosimétriques (débit d'absorption spécifique DAS, densité de courant et champs électriques internes) pour limiter ces risques entre 0 et 300 GHz. Ces travaux de thèse ont deux objectifs principaux. Le premier est d'étudier les normes civiles et militaires afin de comprendre comment elles ont été développées et si elles sont réellement adaptées aux fréquences HF et VHF. Le deuxième est de proposer et valider une nouvelle méthode de validation des produits radio Thales. Pour cela, nous caractérisons numériquement le comportement électromagnétique et thermique du corps humain lors d'une exposition électromagnétique en bandes HF et VHF. L'étude des couplages entre le corps et les champs électromagnétiques externes nous permet de proposer pour la première fois des formules calculant les DAS dans le corps d'un fantôme homogène à partir, soit des courants induits le long du corps pour une exposition quelconque, soit du champ électrique appliqué pour une exposition en onde plane. / In military environments, especially land field, high frequencies (HF, 3 - 30 MHz), very high frequencies (VHF, 30 - 300 MHz) and ultra high frequencies (UHF, 300 - 3000 MHz) have been used for long range and shortrange communications, for communication interference or for detection. To have all those functions on the same carrier, they require many antennas, therefore they are increasing the operator's electromagnetic overexposure risk. Civilian and military standards were published providing limits on external electromagnetic fields and dosimetric quantities (specific absortion rate SAR, current density and internal electric field) to limit this overexposure risk between 0 and 300 GHz. The PhD thesis project has two main objectives. First, civilian and military standards are studied to understand how they were developed and if they are really suited for HF and VHF frequencies. Second, a new validation method of Thales radio product is proposed and validated. This PhD thesis project have characterized numerically the human body electromagnetic and thermal behavior during electromagnetic exposure in HF and VHF. Then, by studying couplings between external electromagnetic fields, induced current and human body, formulas to calculate both whole-body averaged SAR and local SAR 10 g in homogeneous body are proposed for the first time.

The Effects of Lightning on Low Voltage Power Networks

<p>The present society is highly dependant on complex electronics systems, which have a low damage threshold level. Therefore, there is a high risk of partial or total loss of the system’s electronics when they are exposed to a thunderstorm environment. This calls for a deep understanding on the mechanism related to the interaction of lightning generated electromagnetic fields with various large distributed/scattered systems. To accurately represent the interaction of lightning electromagnetic fields with electrical networks, it is necessary to have return stroke models capable to reproduce the electromagnetic field signatures generated by a lightning flash. Several models have been developed in the recent past to study the field-to-wire coupling mechanism. The most popular, simple and accurate among the available models is the Agrawal et al. model. On the other hand, ATP-EMTP is a well-known transient simulation package widely used by power engineers. This package has various built-in line models like Semlyen, Marti and Noda setups. There is a difficulty in applying the Agrawal et al. model with the built-in line models of ATP-EMTP, as the voltage source due to the horizontal component of electric field in Agrawal et al. model is in series with the line impedance and not in between two transmission line segments. Furthermore, when the electromagnetic field is propagating over a finite conducting ground plane, the soil will selectively attenuate the high frequency content of the electromagnetic field; causing a change in the field wave shape. A finite conducting ground will also produce a horizontal field component at the ground level. Several approximations are available in the literature to obtain the horizontal electric field; namely the wave-tilt and the Cooray-Rubinstein approximation. Consequently, it is important to investigate the change on the induced voltage signature when the power line is located over a finitely conducting ground. Additionally, to provide protection from lightning induced transients it is necessary to use Surge Protective Devices (SPDs) capable of diverting the incoming transients and provide protection level necessary to avoid damage in the equipment. However, standard test procedures of the SPDs do not take into account sub-microsecond structure of the transients. Therefore, to provide the required protection level to sensitive equipments connected to the low voltage power network, it is essential to understand the response of SPDs subjected to high current derivative impulses. This thesis is aimed to investigate the research problems as addressed above. Special attention will be given to a new proposed return stroke model, a simple circuit approach for efficient implementation of Agrawal et al. model using ATP-EMTP, the effect of the soil conductivity on the lightning induced overvoltage signatures and the response of surge protective devices subjected to high current derivative impulses.</p>

Design and development of novel radio frequency sensors based on far-field and near-field principles

The objective of this work is to enhance and advance sensing technologies with the design and development of novel radio frequency (RF) sensors based on far-field and near-field principles of the electromagnetic (EM) resonances. In the first part of this thesis, original design and development of a passive RF temperature sensor, a passive RF strain sensor, and a passive RF pressure sensor are presented. The RF temperature sensor is presented in Chapter 3. It is based on split ring resonators loaded with bimorph cantilevers. Its operating principles and equivalent circuits are discussed in Chapter 4, where the design concept is illustrated to be robust and highly adaptable to different sensing ranges, environments, and applicable to other type of sensing beyond temperatures. The passive RF strain sensor, based on a patch antenna loaded with a cantilever-integrated open loop, is presented in Chapter 5, where it is demonstrated to have the highest strain sensitivity in the same remote and passive class of sensors in the state-of-the-art. Chapter 6 describes the passive RF pressure sensor, which is based on a dual-band stacked-patch antenna that allows both identification and sensing to be embedded in its unique dual resonant responses. In the second part of this thesis, an original and first-of-its-kind RF transducer is presented that enables non-touch sensing of human fingers within 3 cm of proximity (based on one unit sensor cell). The RF transducer is based on a slotted microstrip patch coupled to a half-wavelength parallel-coupled microstrip filter operating in the frequency range of 6 – 8 GHz. The sensing mechanism is based on the EM near-field coupling between the resonator and the human finger. Fundamentally different from the electric field capacitive sensing, this new method of sensing, the first of its kind, based on near-field interference that produces a myriad of nonlinearities in the sensing response, can introduce new capabilities for the interface of electronic displays (the detection is based on pattern recognition). What set this sensor and its platform apart from previous proximity sensors and microwave sensing platforms is the low profile planar structure of the system, and its compatibility with mobile applications. The thesis provides both breadth and depth in the proposed design and development and thus presenting a complete research in its contributions to RF sensing.

Mechanical and electrical environments to stimulate bone cell development

Healthy bone is bombarded with many different mechanical strain derived signals during normal daily activities. One of these signals is present as a direct connective tissue strain on the cells. However, there is also the presence of an electrically charged streaming potential during this straining. The electrical potential is created from the movement of charged fluid through the small bone porosities. To date, little focus has been applied to elucidating the possible synergistic effects of these two stimulants. The aim of this project was to evaluate the effects of mechanical strain and indirect electrical stimulation upon the development of bone forming osteoblast cells and any possible synergistic effects of the two stimulants. This aim was achieved by using a novel device, designed and developed with the capability of creating a cell substrate surface strain along with an exogenous electrical stimulant individually or at the same time. Proliferation and differentiation were determined as a measure of cellular development. The indirect electrical stimulation was achieved through the use of a pulsed electromagnetic field (PEMF) while the mechanical strain was produced from dynamic stretching of a deformable cell substrate. Strain and strain rate were modelled from recent studies proposing that relatively high frequency, low strain osteogenic mechanical stimulants are more indicative of what healthy bone would be experiencing during normal activities. The PEMF signal mimicked a clinically available bone growth stimulator signal. Results showed a PEMF stimulus on monolayers of SaOS-2 and MG-63 osteoblast-like cells leads to a depression in proliferation. A concomitant increase in alkaline phosphatase production was also observed for the SaOS-2 cultures, but not for the MG-63 cell line. It was hypothesised that this was due to the MG-63's lack of phenotypic maturity compared to the SaOS-2 cells. Mechanical strain of the cell substrate alone, at a relatively high frequency (5Hz) but small strain, did not significantly effect either cell proliferation or differentiation for the MG-63 cells. However, when the electrical and mechanical stimulants were combined a significant increase in cellular differentiation occurred with MG-63 cultures, revealing a possible synergistic effect of these two stimulants on the development of bone cells.

Μελετάμε θεωρητικά το φάσμα εκπομπής και την δημιουργία υψηλών αρμονικών σε ημιαγώγιμη κβαντική δομή, παρουσία εξωτερικών ηλεκτρομαγνητικών πεδίων τα οποία αλληλεπιδρούν με δύο υποζώνες του κβαντικού συστήματος. Στην μελέτη μας λαμβάνουμε υπόψη το φαινόμενο της αλληλεπίδρασης ηλεκτρονίου-ηλεκτρονίου. Για την περιγραφή της δυναμικής του συστήματος χρησιμοποιούμε τις μη γραμμικές διαφορικές εξισώσεις των στοιχείων του πίνακα πυκνότητας, στα πλαίσια της προσέγγισης περιστρεφόμενου πεδίου. Οι διαφορικές εξισώσεις της μήτρας πυκνότητας λύνονται αριθμητικά για κβαντικό πηγάδι GaAs/GaAlAs. Δείχνουμε ότι το φάσμα εκπομπής και η δημιουργία υψηλών αρμονικών εξαρτάται από τα γεομετρικά χαρακτηριστκά της δομής, από τις παραμέτρους του εξωτερικού πεδίου (συχνότητα και ένταση), και από την επιφανειακή πυκνότητα ηλεκτρονίων. / We study theoretically the emission spectrum and the generation of high harmonics in a two-subband system in a semiconductor quantum well structure. In our study we take into account the effects of electron-electron interactions and consider the interaction of the two-subband system with external electromagnetic fields. For the description of the system dynamics we use the nonlinear differential equations of the density matrix elements, under the rotating wave approximation. These equations are solved numerically for a GaAs/AlGaAs quantum well structure. We show that the emission spectrum and the generation of high harmonics depends on the geometrical characteristics of the system, the external parameters (frequency and intensity of the applied fields) and on the electron sheet density.

Simulador das interferências de campos elétrico e magnético em função da potência para estação rádio base de "Acesso Múltiplo por Divisão de Código - CDMA" na faixa de frequência de 800 MHz

We have developed and created a simulator for calculations and indicatios of maximum permissible values for the electric and magnetic fields as well as the power density in Rádio Base Station, with the use of CDMA technology, in the range of 800 MHz, being the values allowable were referenced and based on the International Commission on Non-ionizing radiation protection. The simulator developed allows to calculate the interference field radiated by rádio base station, with input data such as channel power rádio; Gain Antenna; Number of Rádio Channels, Frequency Operation; Losses in Cable, Attenuation of Direction; Minimum distance; Reflections. To get quickly without the need for the implementation of instruments for measurements, calculations only in that simulator, we calculated values such as: Effective Radiated Power; Density Power Sector; electric field in the Sector; Magnetic Field in the sector; Flux Density Magnetic; point of maximum permissible exposure to electric field and the power density. As results presented in graphs for clarity of visualization of power density in the industry, as well as defining the coverage area. Is also present in the simulator, folders with specifications of antennas, towers and cables used in mobile phones, whose manufacturers are: World RFS, Andrew, and Karthein Brasilsat. They are presented several "links" network access "internet" to complement the specifications of cables, antennas, etc. .. Moreover also part of the simulator to perform calculations quickly and safely assisting in obtaining results of loss of rádio signal generated by rádio base station. Where the simulator has paintings depicting the spreads, where we define propagation "A" and "B".By spreading the "A" we can get the calculations of rádio signal attenuation models in areas of urban, dense urban, suburban, and rural open. Are added in the calculations of reflection coefficients of reflection, the standing wave ratio, return loss, the ratio of reflected power, as well as losses of the signal by impedance mismatch. As for the spread "B" as we can get results in the loss calculations in the rádio signal line in sight and no sight, the effective area, the power density, the power received, the range, the level conversion and the conversion gain in radiant systems. / Neste trabalho foram desenvolvidos e criados dois simuladores para cálculos e indicações de valores Máximos Permissíveis para os campos elétricos e magnéticos, bem como as Densidades de Potência em Estações Rádio Base, com a utilização de Tecnologia CDMA, na faixa de 800 MHz. Esses valores permissíveis foram referênciados e fundamentados pela Comissão Internacional de Proteção à Radiação não Ionizante. O simulador 1 permite calcular as interferências de campo irradiado por estação rádio base, com entrada de dados tais como: Potência do Canal de Rádio; Ganho da Antena; Número de Canais de Rádio; Frequência de Operação; Perdas no Cabo; Atenuação da Direção; Distância Mínima; Reflexões. O referido simulador permite, de maneira rápida e sem a necessidade da execução de instrumentos para medições, alcançar os seguintes valores calculados: Potência Radiada Efetiva; Densidade de Potência do Setor; Campo elétrico no Setor; Campo Magnético no Setor; Densidade de fluxo Magnético; ponto de exposição máxima permitida de campo elétrico, bem como a densidade de potência. Os resultados são apresentados em gráficos, para clareza da visualização da densidade de potência no setor, assim como para a definição da área de cobertura. O simulador abrange também pastas com especificações de antenas, cabos e torres utilizadas na telefonia celular, dos seguintes fabricantes: RFS World, Andrew, Karthein e Brasilsat. São apresentados diversos &#8213;links&#8214; de acesso à rede &#8213;internet&#8214; para complemento das especificações de cabos, antenas, etc. O simulador 2 apresenta mais variáveis, procurando executar cálculos de forma rápida e segura auxiliando na obtenção de resuldados das perdas do sinal de rádio produzidas por estação rádio base. Nesse caso, o simulador apresenta telas representando as propagações denominadas &#8213;A&#8214; e &#8213;B&#8214;. Através da propagação &#8213;A&#8214; podemos obter os cálculos de atenuação do sinal de rádio em áreas de modelos urbana, urbana densa, suburbana, aberta e rural. Nos cálculos de reflexão, adicionamos os coeficientes de reflexão, a relação de onda estacionária, a perda de retorno, a relação de potência refletida, assim como as perdas do sinal por descasamento de impedância. Com a propagação &#8213;B&#8214; podemos obter como resultados as perdas do sinal de rádio na linha visada e não visada, a área efetiva, a densidade de potência, a potência recebida, o raio de cobertura, a conversão de níveis e a conversão de ganho em sistemas irradiantes. / Mestre em Ciências

No. of bitstreams: 0 / Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior (CAPES) / Conselho Nacional de Desenvolvimento Científico e Tecnológico (CNPq) / Nas últimas décadas, o consumo de dispositivos eletrônicos e a alta demanda por armazenamento de dados tem mostrado grandes oportunidades para a criação de novas tecnologias que garantam as necessidades mundiais na área de computação e desenvolvimento. Alguns materiais multiferroicos tem sido amplamente estudados e o BiFeO3, considerado o único material multiferroico em temperatura ambiente, ganhou destaque como candidato para produção de dispositivos lógicos e de memória. O uso de técnicas de crescimento como a deposição por laser pulsado permitiu a produção de filmes finos de BiFeO3 com elevado controle de qualidade. Heteroestruturas de filmes multiferroicos de BiFeO3 e LaBiFeO3 foram crescidas com diferentes espessuras sobre substratos de SrTiO3(100), DyScO3(110) e SrTiO3/Si(100) para avaliação e teste de suas propriedades elétricas e magnéticas. Filmes ferromagnéticos de Co0,9Fe0,1 foram depositados por sputtering sobre os filmes multiferroicos para avaliação da interação interfacial entre ordenamentos magnéticos. Técnicas como fotolitografia foram utilizadas para padronização de microdispositivos gravados sobre as amostras. Tanto os filmes finos de BiFeO3 como os de LaBiFeO3 foram crescidos epitaxialmente sobre os substratos já cobertos com uma camada buffer de SrRuO3 usado como contato elétrico inferior. A estrutura cristalina romboédrica das ferritas de bismuto foi confirmada pelos dados de difração de raios X, bem como a manutenção de tensão estrutural causada pela rede cristalina do substrato para amostras de 20 nm. Os valores de coeficiente do tensor piezelétrico d33 foram da ordem de 0,15 V (&sim; 60 kV.cm-2) para amostras com 20 nm de espessura enquanto que os valores de voltagem coerciva para as análises de histerese elétrica foram da ordem de 0,5 V para as mesmas amostras. A relação de coercividade elétrica com a espessura corresponde ao perfil encontrado na literatura pela relação E&asymp;d-2/3. Avaliação do risco de mortalidade por leucemia, neoplasias do sistema nervoso central e esclerose lateral amiotrófica associado à exposição residencial a campos magnéticos: um estudo do tipo caso-controle no Município de São Paulo / Evaluating the risk of leukemia, brain cancer and amyotrophic lateral sclerosis deaths in relation to magnetic field exposure: a case-control study in the city of São Paulo

O presente trabalho teve como objetivo avaliar o risco de óbito por leucemia, neoplasias do sistema nervoso central e esclerose lateral amiotrófica em adultos em relação à exposição a CM, no Município de São Paulo. Foi realizado um estudo do tipo caso-controle populacional envolvendo 6224 sujeitos. Casos e controles foram extraídos da base de dados do PROAIM, e foram pareados por sexo, faixa etária e distrito administrativo de residência. Foram considerados casos todos os óbitos pelos desfechos específicos, em adultos com 40 anos ou mais, residentes no Município de São Paulo, ocorridos entre 2001 e 2005. Controles foram constituídos por óbitos por todas as outras causas ocorridos no mesmo período. A exposição foi avaliada de acordo com a distância das residências dos sujeitos para a linha de transmissão (LT) mais próxima. Foi encontrado um aumento do risco de óbito por leucemia entre os indivíduos que moravam mais próximo às LT, com OR ajustado de 1,8 (IC 95%: 0,8 - 4,3) e 2,5 (IC 95%: 1,0 - 7,2) entre os sujeitos que moravam a 50 m e entre 50 e 100 m das LT, respectivamente, em relação aos que moravam a mais de 400 m. / This work aimed at evaluating the risk of death by leukemia, brain tumor and amyotrophic lateral sclerosis in adults in relation to magnetic field exposure, in the city of São Paulo. A population-based case-control study was held, and 6224 subjects were enrolled. Cases and controls were selected from the PROAIM database, and were matched by sex, age and district of residence. Cases were all deaths ocurred between 2001 and 2005 by the specific causes, ocurring in adults 40 years and older, living in the city of São Paulo. Controls were selected from all other deaths ocurred at the same period. Exposure to magnetic fields was accessed according to the distance of the dwelling to the closest transmission line (TL). The risk of death by leukemia was elevated within the subjects living closest to the TL, with an adjusted OR of 1,8 (CI 95%: 0,8 - 4,3) and 2,5 (CI 95%: 1,0 - 7,2) for people living within 50 m and within 50 to 100 m away from the TL, respectively, in relation to people living at 400 m or further.
