Reentry shock in the corporate environmentLocke, Steven A. 01 January 1991 (has links)
While much research and attention have focused on sojourn adjustment to a new culture, very little research has addressed readjustment to the home culture. This research studies the problems of repatriation work adjustment experienced by U.S. corporate employees. This study also.suggests that cultural readjustment is situational and a multifaceted process which is influenced by many different variables. Interviews with 25 corporate repatriated employees were conducted using a 22-question survey instrument. Repatriates were asked to rate their readjustment experiences on a seven-item Likert scale. Respondents also had the opportunity to expand on their answers with open-ended questions. Fourteen variables were examined for their relationship to cultural readjustment and to each other. Of these 14 variables, the ability for repatriates to use job skills which were learned overseas and number of overseas assignments were found to positively relate to readjustment. As predicted, the amount of autonomy expatriates experienced overseas was found to relate negatively to repatriation work readjustment. Based on these findings, recommendations to facilitate readjustment to the corporate home environment are proposed.

An analysis of the concept of employee in South African Labour LawMamabolo, Lethabo Caroline January 2011 (has links)
Thesis (LLM. (Labour Law)) -- University of Limpopo, 2011 / The definition of an employee in most protective labour legislations excludes various categories of workers. The definition of what an employee is, is different in labour legislation. A new presumption of what an employee is, is just a guideline and not exhaustive. The tests developed by our courts do not assist in defining an employee in boarderline cases. It is not simple as it originally seemed. In the beginning it seemed certain but in the end the definition can no longer be valid.
The definition of an employee is a journey of a thousand miles which begins with the test step-with no end. The words of Francis Bacan seem to hold water regarding most definition of an employee. Francis Bacan said I quote ‘if a man will begin with certainties, he shall end in doubts, but if he will be content to begin with doubts, he shall end in certainties.

The evaluation of employee assistance programmes in the coal mines within the Nkangala region.Lekgothoana, Josiah Patrick. January 2013 (has links)
M. Tech. Human Resources Management / It is important to acknowledge that employees need to be physically and mentally healthy in order to be productive, thus boosting the profitability of the organisation. According to resources, employee assistance programmes have the potential of enhancing the profitability of the company by reducing absenteeism, staff turnover, tardiness, accidents and medical claims. The problem statement of this study involves the uncertainty about the perceptions of the employees in the coal mines within the Nkangala region about the outsourced employee assistance programmes. It is only one coal mining company and an Employee Assistance Programmes service provider that granted permission to conduct the research at their organisations. This research project aims to evaluate the perceptions of the employees of the coal mine within the Nkangala region in South Africa, about the outsourced employee assistance programmes. The objectives of the study are to determine if the perceptions of demographic groups differ and also to determine if there are relationships between the theoretically envisaged subscales or dimensions.
