F16 MID-LIFE UPGRADE INSTRUMENTATION SYSTEM SOLVING THE PROBLEM OF SPACE IN THE AIRCRAFT AND IN THE RF SPECTRUM

Siu, David P. 10 1900 (has links)
International Telemetering Conference Proceedings / October 27-30, 1997 / Riviera Hotel and Convention Center, Las Vegas, Nevada / The older F16 jet fighters are currently being flight tested to evaluate the upgraded electronics for aircraft avionics, flight control and weapons systems. An instrumentation system capable of recording three different video signals, recording four Military- Standard-1553B (Mil-Std-1553B) data streams, recording one PCM stream, transmitting the PCM stream, and transmitting two video signals was needed. Using off the shelf equipment, the F16 instrumentation system was design to meet the electronic specifications, limited available space of a small jet fighter, and limited space in the SBand frequency range.

DESIGN OF A DIGITAL VOICE ENCODER CIRCUIT

Olyniec, Lee 11 1900 (has links)
International Telemetering Conference Proceedings / October 30-November 02, 1995 / Riviera Hotel, Las Vegas, Nevada / This paper describes the design and characteristics of a digital voice encoding circuit that uses the continuously variable slope delta (CVSD) modulation/demodulation method. With digital voice encoding, the audio signal can be placed into the pulse code modulation (PCM) data stream. Some methods of digitizing voice can require a large amount of bandwidth. Using the CVSD method, an acceptable quality of audio signal is obtained with a minimum of bandwidth. Presently, there is a CVSD microchip commercially available; however, this paper will describe the design of a circuit based on individual components that apply the CVSD method. With the advances in data acquisition technology, increased bit rates, and introduction of a corresponding MIL-STD, CVSD modulated voice will become more utilized in the flight test programs and a good knowledge of CVSD will become increasingly important. This paper will present CVSD theory, supported by graphical investigations of a working circuit under different conditions. Finally, several subjects for further study into CVSD will be addressed.

Gallegos Wallgren, Sofia, Petersen, Thea January 2016 (has links)

Nodbrant, Ellen, Parfält, Maria January 2017 (has links)
Social media play a significant role in people’s daily communication and life. Even companies use them to reach a broader audience. This study aims to explore if Snapchat can be a useful platform for companies in their strategic communication, especially regarding corporate branding. Snapchat is the fastest growing social media today and they use content in a completely different way than other major social medias. This paper will show how Arla Sweden is using Snapchat to communicate with a specific target group, create engagement and strengthen brand identity. The study focuses on how users understand Arla´s content and is divided into two parts, where two qualitative methods are used. The first part focuses on Arla´s use of Snapchat and is conducted by an interview with an expert from Arla´s social media department. The second one aims to understand the user experience and is collected through four focus group interviews. The study is based on theories about corporate branding and Stuart Hall´s theory of encoding/decoding. The result shows that the users are critical to companies using Snapchat. The users view Snapchat as a private medium for friends and are negative to companies using it as a marketing tool. However, the study shows a positive result regarding users’ first experience with Arla´s content. The conclusion is that Snapchat can be used for corporate branding as long as companies make sure that the content is interesting enough for the target group.

Who you gonna Call? Not Ghostbusters!

Hamrin, Linnea, Holmstedt, Amanda January 2017 (has links)
This essay is about the hate Ghostbusters (2016) has received. To find out why the film is hated, a reception study has been done. YouTube and IMDb are the two websites used in this study to collect the hate-comments and reviews. Ghostbusters (2016) is a remake of the original film with the same name from 1984, the original solely has men in the main roles. A big difference between the two films is that the remake contains women instead of men in the main roles. The trailer of Ghostbusters (2016) got many “downvotes” on YouTube and there after the hatred streamed in. Why is the film hated? The theories used in this study contains subjects of representation, attraction and fat studies. As a method Stuart Hall’s Encoding/decoding was used to analyze the reception of the film. This essay contains content which can be connected to cultural studies and feminism.

Theories Contrasted: Rudy's Variability in the Associative Process (V.A.P.) and Martin's Encoding Variability

Fuhr, Susan R. 12 1900 (has links)
A paired-associate list of three-word stimuli and one-word responses comprised the first list of an A-B, A-Br paradigm. Each of the three words from the first-list three-word stimuli was singly re-paired with first-list responses to make up three of the second-list conditions. The fourth second-list condition used the first-list stimuli plus re-paired first-list responses. Results obtained were that: (a) nine of the sixteen subjects spontaneously shifted encoding cues from first to second lists, (b) evidence of significantly greater negative transfer occurred only in the A-B, A1 2 3-Br condition, and (c) although not attaining significance level, across all A -Br conditions there were more errors on second-list learning for those not shifting encoding cues from first to second list. For those who did shift, performance was only slightly lower than the A-B, C-B control condition. Neither the encoding variability nor the associative variability theory was entirely supported. A gestalt interpretation was suggested.

Coding Scheme for the Transmission of Satellite Imagery

Auli-Llinas, Francesc, Marcellin, Michael W., Sanchez, Victor, Serra-Sagrista, Joan, Bartrina-Rapesta, Joan, Blanes, Ian 03 1900 (has links)
The coding and transmission of the massive datasets captured by Earth Observation (EO) satellites is a critical issue in current missions. The conventional approach is to use compression on board the satellite to reduce the size of the captured images. This strategy exploits spatial and/or spectral redundancy to achieve compression. Another type of redundancy found in such data is the temporal redundancy between images of the same area that are captured at different instants of time. This type of redundancy is commonly not exploited because the required data and computing power are not available on board the satellite. This paper introduces a coding scheme for EO satellites able to exploit this redundancy. Contrary to traditional approaches, the proposed scheme employs both the downlink and the uplink of the satellite. Its main insight is to compute and code the temporal redundancy on the ground and transmit it to the satellite via the uplink. The satellite then uses this information to compress more efficiently the captured image. Experimental results for Landsat 8 images indicate that the proposed dual link image coding scheme can achieve higher coding performance than traditional systems for both lossless and lossy regimes.

This work presents an encoding algorithm for compressed images that represents each pixel of an image and its coordinates by a single value. For each pixel and its coordinates, this unique value is stored in a vector that is used in the reconstruction of the image without its quality being compromised. The proposed method presents improvements in relation to two other algorithms previously proposed, one of which is already an improvement for the first one. The algorithm presented in this work differs from the other ones in the foollowing characteristcs: by the significant reduction of the space required for image storage, the determination of an exact compression rate and the reduction of the decoding processing time. Another advancement was the compression of colored images using the tool wavemenu in improvement with the algorithm that determines the compression ratio.

Novel use of video and image analysis in a video compression system

Stobaugh, John David 01 May 2015 (has links)
As consumer demand for higher quality video at lower bit-rate increases, so does the need for more sophisticated methods of compressing videos into manageable file sizes. This research attempts to address these concerns while still maintaining reasonable encoding times. Modern segmentation and grouping analysis are used with code vectorization techniques and other optimization paradigms to improve quality and performance within the next generation coding standard, High Efficiency Video Coding. This research saw on average a 50% decrease in run-time by the encoder with marginal decreases in perceived quality.

Bergström, Ola, Strömvall, Johan January 2010 (has links)
