Helleland, Maria January 2008 (has links)
In today’s society there is always a demand for better and less expensive solutions. This is especially true in the aircraft industry, where costs of producing a component and the weight of it have to be as small as possible. However, this can not be done by reducing performance or credibility. One way of dealing with the problem is to use welded components instead of casting components. Volvo Aero in Trollhättan has started using welded components. In order to make calculations for welded components more effective, a crack propagation program, VACWELD, has been developed. The purpose of this thesis work is to find out if the calculations done in VACWELD are acceptable in comparison to other programs the company uses. The verification demonstrates that VACWELD performs the calculations in a satisfying and reliable way. Furthermore, the results confirm that a detailed model gives better results. However, they also prove that a stress gradient division does not give an improvement in the case studied, which is in contrast to what was believed.

Våggsystem för lastbilar : Lastindikator och lastväxlarvåg / Weighing scales for trucks

Harrysson, Fredrik January 2008 (has links)
The commissioner for this assignment is Vågab AB in Karlstad which sale weighing equipment for mobile weighing. The thesis deals with the two systems, load indication for leaf spring equipped trucks and weighing scale for roll on roll of equipped trucks. The load indicator is conceived as a cheap alternative to estimate laden weight on leaf spring equipped trucks where there are no alternatives. The weighting is based on measuring the spring height in the suspension with ultrasound equipment. As the load increase on the truck bed the spring height reduces which is used to indicate the load. Work on the load indicator aims to find out how accurate this kind of weighing is possible to do and how the ultrasound equipment are to be best placed. The work resulted in a concept for load indication which proved to register laden weight, with accuracy up to 1700 kg for a total cargo of 16400 kg. The work on a weighing scale for roll off trucks aims to develop alternatives to the current scale of type LLV 4 x 6 ton, which is currently mounted on roll of trucks. The work resulted in a construction of a scale named LLV 4 x 8 ton.

On mathematical modeling of shaped charge penetration

Clipii, Tudor January 2008 (has links)
Shaped charges are a well established type of projectile, subjected to a lot of research ever since emerging as a viable technology in the 1940s. The penetration achieved by shaped charges decreases with increased standoff distance. This is often attributed to the shaped charge jet losing its coherence. The Swedish Defence Research Agency however, noted no such loss of coherence in its experiments. An alternative explanation to the decrease of penetration was instead proposed. The object of this thesis was to investigate this proposed theory. To this end, the hydrocode Autodyn was used, modelling the impact of a high-velocity projectile into a generic target and analysing the resulting behaviour of the target. Several setups were used and several parameters were considered when evaluating the results. The conclusion of this thesis is that the alternative explanation offered is not supported by the observed behaviour of the target in the computer model.
