Burnett, Mary Joyce 08 1900 (has links)
This study evaluates the effectiveness of programed vocabulary instruction in an undergraduate collegiate business communications course. In making its evaluation, the study tests the hypothesis that a class using such instruction would improve over a class without formal vocabulary study. A special English program for Panamanian bank employees

Oses Ortega, Ruth Del Carmen January 1982 (has links)
English plays a significant role in Panama as a language of commerce. It is the language most widely used in the banking business. And opportunities for advancement are far more common in banks than in other businesses. A good program in this field is necessary to meet the needs of bank employees in the financial world. The program will be primarily oral since bank work covers a great many different kinds of tasks. The program for Panamanian bank employees examines English-speaking bank employees' main needs for communication skills.

Meso, Thapelo Victor January 2020 (has links)
Thesis (M. A.(English Studies)) -- University of Limpopo, 2020 / Although the University of Limpopo (UL) students have been taught Business English (BE) for a number of years, their needs were never formally analysed. Hence, an exploratory research design was used to explore the needs of UL BE students, and a qualitative approached was followed. Thus, students and lecturers in Accounting and Financial Management were requested to fill in a questionnaire and to respond to interview questions, respectively, to identify students’ needs which were later analysed. However, Needs Analysis (NA) ought to be at the core of discipline-specific teaching and learning because it is learner-centred. This essential NA exercise is at the core of courses such as the UL BE one. Findings of this study indicate that students’ as well as content lecturers’ input is authentic and remain invaluable to BE courses as some of these mechanisms are vital for assisting lecturers fulfil students’ needs

Active or Passive Voice: Does It Matter?

Watson, Rose E. (Rose Elliott) 12 1900 (has links)
This thesis reports on the use of active and passive voice in the workplace and classroom through analysis of surveys completed by 37 employees and 66 students. The surveys offered six categories of business writing with ten sets of two sentences each, written in active and passive voice. Participants selected one sentence from each set and gave a reason for each selection. The participants preferred active over passive 47 to 46 percent of opportunities, but they preferred mixed voice over both, 49 percent. The participants preferred active only for memos to supervisors; in the other five categories they preferred passive or mixed voice. Both males and females preferred mixed voice, and age appeared to influence the choices. They cited context as the most common reason for using passive.
