Från myt till Ptolemaios: Geografin under antiken

Olsson, Nils-Olof January 2008 (has links)

This paper deals with the development of scientific geography during Antiquity from its mythical background before the seventh century BC to Claudius Ptolemy during the second century AD. The main focus is on questions concerning the shape of the earth, its place in the universe, size and mapping of the earth. Already before 400 BC, the idea of the earth as a globe was firmly estabished. During classical time, Aristotle used empirical and rational arguments to prove that the earth was a sphere and that it was situated motionless in the center of the universe. In the third century BC, the first reasonably correct measurements of the circumference of the earth was carried out by Eratosthenes. Later, a lower, incorrect measurement of the circumference of the earth was made by Poseidonius. His measurement was for some reason accepted by later geographers. The first map of the earth that we know of is on a clay tablet from Mesopotamia from c. 600 BC. The first useful maps were constructed during the Roman era.

The construction of the proposal, for application in the 7th Year of Elementary School, was divided into moments such as Souza's methodology. Finally we did the analysis and justification of the importance of the proposal and the use of games in Mathematics teaching, based on the questions of Cabral and the perspectives of Regina Grando, Tizuko Kishimoto and Cristiano Muniz. Our Goldbach Bingo proposal was designed to help teachers improve content such as even and odd numbers, prime numbers, and the Sieve of Eratosthenes and also the Goldbach Conjecture.

Our aim in this work is to make a study about the sieve method. The motivation lies in the intent of applying this idea in a particular situation. We splitted the study into three parts. The first part deals with definitions and basic concepts. In the second we present the principle of inclusion-exclusion while being something well known deserves special mention given its importance as a tool in our work. In the third and final part, we make a historical contextualization and a description of the evolution of the sieve Eratosthenes- Legendre ideas. The choice of sieve, among many others, has been made taking into account two points. The first is that the Eratosthenes-Legendre sieve is the simplest among the sieves studied the theory of sieves. The second point is related to the fact that this sieve provide the general idea of combinatorial sieve, since the more sophisticated sieves are extensions of its basic idea / Mestrado / Matematica Aplicada / Mestre em Matemática Aplicada

Techniky paralelního zpracování výpočtů / Techniques for parallel computing

Vodák, René January 2014 (has links)
The text of this thesis deals with techniques of parallel processing calculations. It is an analysis of the most important libraries for parallelization including libraries for parallelization on GPU graphics cards and computing speed by comparing these libraries in Visual Studio 2010 based on a simple application searching primes on three different computer hardware configurations. With OpenCL library, that achieved the best result, there are formed two applications – an improved program for searching prime numbers using the sieve of Eratosthenes and a program for calculating the integral with the trapezoidal rule.

This work aims to present the Inclusion and Exclusion Principle as a tool for solving many problems involving counting elements, especially those that appear double, triple counting, among others. It also seeks to relate it with the determination of prime numbers of a number and the Sieve of Eratosthenes, use it to systematize the Formula of the function Fi ( Phi) Euler, as well as for determining the number of permutations Chaotic and number of Sobrejetoras functions.
