It aims at examining which theoretical, political, social and educational references influence the formation of future educators. The educational dimension that teachers from that institution of high-learning place on art will also be under scrutiny. This study is also guided by the following hypothesis: art detains an educational potential that is used both to express social contradictions and as a powerful weapon against ignorance. In that sense, the investigation is a means of verification if teachers convey an educational function to art as a formation tool for future educators; that premise would be conducive to developing critical awareness that sheds light on current contradictions in society, which hinder an emancipatory formation. The analysis of the syllabus, topics, teaching methods and interviews held with teachers revealed that training and education provided by the School of Music and Fine Arts of Paraná are superior and that students are provided with theoretical and technical references required by professional artists and teachers. Syllabus is updated and associated to reality, whereby it may and we believe that it is worked on critically; teachers attribute an educational function to art, which we deem conducive for the development of critical awareness / O objetivo deste trabalho, tendo a teoria crítica como referencial teórico, é analisar a formação que os professores da Escola de Música e Belas Artes do Paraná dão a seus alunos, buscando examinar quais os referenciais teóricos, políticos, sociais e educacionais que perpassam a formação do futuro educador.
