As constantes modificações do mundo contemporâneo e o caráter atual da produção capitalista fazem necessária a adaptação dos territórios ao processo vigente. A região se apresenta como um sistema progressivamente diversificado, produzido por realidades estratificadas, porém não fixas, que se transformam continuamente. O presente trabalho propõe uma investigação da realidade urbanoregional através da análise da estruturação do espaço da Região da Produção/RS e tem por objetivo estabelecer conceitos para a caracterização da Região e a construção de uma metodologia para sua análise, a partir das transformações globais e das mudanças nas bases produtivas regionais e dos impactos espaciais destas sobre a estrutura física da região. A análise concentra-se em dois períodos distintos: 1970-1987 e 1988- 2003, nos quais percebe-se significativas transformações na Região da Produção e serão estudados, basicamente, os aspectos indutores do crescimento urbano. Como resultado pretende-se apresentar uma nova visão da realidade regional, a partir das alterações das áreas urbanas, e identificar se a Região encontra-se ou não preparada para participar do cenário mundial atual. / The constants changes of the contemporary world and the current character of the capitalism production make necessary the adaptation of the territories to the in force process. The region presents itself as a progressively diversified system produced by stratified realities, which are not permanent and transform themselves continually. This work proposes an investigation of the urban-regional reality through the analysis of the space’s structure of the “Produção/RS” Region and has the aim to establish concepts to the region’s characterization and the construction of a methodology for its analysis, from the global transformations and the changes in the regional productive basis and by the spaces’ impacts of those over the region’s physical structure. This analysis concentrates itself into two distinct periods: 1970-1987 and 1988-2003, in which meaningful transformations in the “Produção” Region can be noticed and basically, the aspects of the urban growth will be studied. As a result, it is intended to present a new vision of the regional reality, from the alterations of the urban areas and to identify if the region is ready or not to take part in the actual worlds’ scenery.
