Completion Design and Execution Strategy for Increasing Maui Reserve

Hardy, Amy Marree January 2014 (has links)
This report provides Shell Todd Oil Service’s Completion and Well Intervention Engineering Department with feasible options for the completion design and execution strategy for proposed sidetrack wells for Maui B. The project provides results and recommendations that can be carried forward into the next project phase, including: -Completion design for the three proposed sidetrack well types for Maui B: crestal, down-dip and the extended reach Maui B North -Stress analysis for each proposed design -Execution program outline for the crestal wells -Cost analysis -Benchmarking against industry standard -Analysis of Completion and Well Intervention Engineering departmental communication and synergies The successes and failures of previous completion campaigns were analysed and heavily influenced the completion design for proposed sidetrack wells on Maui B. Shell standards, guidelines and open literature were called upon for the design. Findings in this report provide evidence of issues that should be addressed for the continuous improvement of both primary completion design and it’s synergy with the entire project group. Conclusions and recommendations have been provided for the consideration of Shell Todd Oil Service’s Completion and Well Intervention Team, Well Delivery Lead and Maui B Increased Recovery Project Team. This project has been prepared in partial fulfilment of the Master of Engineering Management (MEM) degree at the University of Canterbury for ENMG 606.

Efficient Execution Paradigms for Parallel Heterogeneous Architectures

Koukos, Konstantinos January 2016 (has links)
This thesis proposes novel, efficient execution-paradigms for parallel heterogeneous architectures. The end of Dennard scaling is threatening the effectiveness of DVFS in future nodes; therefore, new execution paradigms are required to exploit the non-linear relationship between performance and energy efficiency of memory-bound application-regions. To attack this problem, we propose the decoupled access-execute (DAE) paradigm. DAE transforms regions of interest (at program-level) in two coarse-grain phases: the access-phase and the execute-phase, which we can independently DVFS. The access-phase is intended to prefetch the data in the cache, and is therefore expected to be predominantly memory-bound, while the execute-phase runs immediately after the access-phase (that has warmed-up the cache) and is therefore expected to be compute-bound. DAE, achieves good energy savings (on average 25% lower EDP) without performance degradation, as opposed to other DVFS techniques. Furthermore, DAE increases the memory level parallelism (MLP) of memory-bound regions, which results in performance improvements of memory-bound applications. To automatically transform application-regions to DAE, we propose compiler techniques to automatically generate and incorporate the access-phase(s) in the application. Our work targets affine, non-affine, and even complex, general-purpose codes. Furthermore, we explore the benefits of software multi-versioning to optimize DAE in dynamic environments, and handle codes with statically unknown access-phase overheads. In general, applications automatically-transformed to DAE by our compiler, maintain (or even exceed in some cases) the good performance and energy efficiency of manually-optimized DAE codes. Finally, to ease the programming environment of heterogeneous systems (with integrated GPUs), we propose a novel system-architecture that provides unified virtual memory with low overhead. The underlying insight behind our work is that existing data-parallel programming models are a good fit for relaxed memory consistency models (e.g., the heterogeneous race-free model). This allows us to simplify the coherency protocol between the CPU – GPU, as well as the GPU memory management unit. On average, we achieve 45% speedup and 45% lower EDP over the corresponding SC implementation.

Incidenční spory ve vykonávacím řízení / Incidental disputes in enforcement proceedings

Doubravová, Barbora January 2013 (has links)
The thesis deals with current legal regulation of incidence contentions, which can occur in the enforcement proceedings. The thesis consists of 3 chapters. The introductory chapter of the thesis deals with the introduction of the basic terminology, historic background, attributes of civil procedure and differences betweenen forcement proceedings and exekutory proceedings. It is essential to bear in mind that for a very purpose of this thesis a term "enforcement proceedings" refers to the civil execution on the one hand, and the enforcement procedure on the other. Among others, folowing disputes have been tackled: disputes about enforcement, exclusive contentions and last, but not least Third-Party Debtor disputes. Disputes which emerge from both types of civil enforcement proceedings are currently not regulated in the Execution Law and must therefore be governed by the rule of Civil Procedure. Principal diferences among certain types of disputes consist in particular in the phase of proceedings in which each dispute shall be addressed. While disputes about enforcement shall be settled in the phase of enforcement proceedings, the others shall then be transfered back in to the phase of adversarial proceedings. Second chapter deals with disputes about enforcement and its characteristics. Third chapter...

Postavení oprávněného ve výkonu rozhodnutí / The position of entitled person at the enforcement of judgement

Pušová, Kristýna January 2014 (has links)
The purpose of my thesis is to analyze a position of an entitled person in the process of enforcement obligation, which was adjudged by a judicial decision and wasn't fulfilled by an obliged person voluntarily. The paper is focused on the enforcement of private, pecuniary obligations. Execution procedure and all described institutes are observed from the entitled person's point of view, particularly with regard to her fundamental effort to satisfy her claim. The thesis also deals with the entitled person's options to face the obliged person's means of defense, especially deferral and discontinuance of the execution. The aim is to evaluate the current legislation's adjustment of the position of the entitled person and to try to suggest possibilities of change which could provide more effective execution for the entitled person while preserving the obliged person's rights. The thesis is divided into four chapters. The first one presents the position of the topic in the system of law and introduces the subject and the characteristic of the main terms: the execution and the entitled person. The next chapter is focused on the relation between the entitled person and persons different from the obliged person who are concerned in the execution, and highlights the most important moments of this link. There...

Public Order and Social Control through Religion in the Roman Republic

Williams, Sheri 05 1900 (has links)
Rome was among the largest cities in Europe during the Republic era, with a population that was diverse in social status and ethnicity. To maintain public order and social control of such a large, continually growing and shifting population that encompassed mixed cultures and Roman citizens, the Roman elites had to use various methods to keep the peace and maintain social stability. As religion was so deeply ingrained into every aspect of Roman life, it is worth taking a deeper look into how those in charge used it to maintain peace and relative control in Rome and its territories. Chapter 1 offers a brief look at the history of Roman religion, its terms and definitions, and the idea of social control as it pertains to this thesis. Chapter 2 shows the motivations of the Roman elite classes in their use of religion to maintain public order and enforce social control of the mass population. Couched in the need to uphold the Pax Deorum or Peace of the Gods, religious piety and order was cultivated as a means to protect the Republic from harm. Chapter 3 explains how the Patrician and Plebeian classes directed the attention of the residents of Rome with a calendar that was filled with rituals, sacrifices, festivals, and market days. In keeping a busy religious schedule, the people of Rome maintained a constant and direct relationship with the gods. Chapter 4 discusses the importance of women in the roles of priestesses and officers in religious cult to sustain the religious health and welfare of the city of Rome and the smaller communities within the city they inhabited. Chapter 5 examines the use of execution as a religious means of enforcing public order and social control. The chapter explores different means of execution and how they were placed into the realm of religion as a means to rid the populace of impurity and cultivate the piety of the Republic. Chapter 6 brings all of these elements together to show that the people of the Roman Republic believed in their gods and believed that the religious rites and practices that they maintained were instrumental in keeping the Pax Deorum. It was this belief that the ruling Patrician and Plebeian classes regulated to make sure that public and social order were upheld and preserved.

An evaluation of galaxy and ruffus-scripting workflows system for DNA-seq analysis

Oluwaseun, Ajayi Olabode January 2018 (has links)
>Magister Scientiae - MSc / Functional genomics determines the biological functions of genes on a global scale by using large volumes of data obtained through techniques including next-generation sequencing (NGS). The application of NGS in biomedical research is gaining in momentum, and with its adoption becoming more widespread, there is an increasing need for access to customizable computational workflows that can simplify, and offer access to, computer intensive analyses of genomic data. In this study, the Galaxy and Ruffus frameworks were designed and implemented with a view to address the challenges faced in biomedical research. Galaxy, a graphical web-based framework, allows researchers to build a graphical NGS data analysis pipeline for accessible, reproducible, and collaborative data-sharing. Ruffus, a UNIX command-line framework used by bioinformaticians as Python library to write scripts in object-oriented style, allows for building a workflow in terms of task dependencies and execution logic. In this study, a dual data analysis technique was explored which focuses on a comparative evaluation of Galaxy and Ruffus frameworks that are used in composing analysis pipelines. To this end, we developed an analysis pipeline in Galaxy, and Ruffus, for the analysis of Mycobacterium tuberculosis sequence data. Furthermore, this study aimed to compare the Galaxy framework to Ruffus with preliminary analysis revealing that the analysis pipeline in Galaxy displayed a higher percentage of load and store instructions. In comparison, pipelines in Ruffus tended to be CPU bound and memory intensive. The CPU usage, memory utilization, and runtime execution are graphically represented in this study. Our evaluation suggests that workflow frameworks have distinctly different features from ease of use, flexibility, and portability, to architectural designs.

The execution of the strategy becomes a challenging factor and it is configured as a fundamental element for the sustainability and growth of organizations. In this sense, the present study had the objective of elaborating and proposing an operational artifact of execution of the strategy for an agricultural cooperative of Rio Grande do Sul (RS). For this, the following question arises: What are the practices necessary fot the translation of the strategy into actions and results in an agricultural cooperative? In order to achieve the proposed objective, the study is anchored in the theoretical foundations of DeLisi (2000), Neilson; Martin and Powers (2008), Spence (2009), Kaplan; Norton (2008), Higgins (2005), Zagotta and Robinson (2002), Bialoskorski Neto (1997), Oliveira (2015), among others. The agricultural cooperative units were part of the study through an interview with managers and employees from different sectoral levels. As a result of the analysis, it was possible to identify barriers to the execution of the strategy, as well as to consolidate the aspects considered essential to execution. And from that, an operational artifact was developed and proposed to execute the strategic plan, with all the key steps for the best execution performance. Based on Oliveira's (2015) observation, that the main difficulties of cooperatives are not physical and environmental, but rather managerial.

Trest smrti / Death penalty

Dvořáková, Kateřina January 2012 (has links)
1 Death Penalty - Summary As the theme of my thesis, I've chosen the death sentence. Such sentence has accompanied the human society from the early times. From the history to these days, it helped to maintain the public order and the law enforcement. The public order was seen differently in each society and every historical stage. However, there was always one thing in common, it intended to protect life, safety, law enforcement and community rules. During the period of economic growth, abundance and prosperity, the society tends to treat law and public order intruders more liberally. The "western part" of civilization is currently at this evolution stage. Our country is firmly integrated into the European Union. There is a straightforward common understanding. The death penalty is prohibited and it has to be respected. The world tends away from the death penalty in general. I've outlined the questions to be addressed at the introduction part of the thesis. I structured the dissertation into ten chapters. Further supplements are attached to the material, including the photographic documentation provided on my own, deeds and other documents related to the topic. I explain the definition of the death sentence and its purpose in the first chapter. I introduce different theories about the purpose of the death...

Challenges with strategy execution for digital transformation

Siwert, Pontus, Jonasson, Jonathan January 2019 (has links)
Background: As the world is moving from an industrial to a digital one an increasingly important factor for companies has become their digital transformation. This, Industry 4.0, has brought forward a new set of challenges but conventional strategy-making has not been able to keep up with them, whilst considering that change, in practice, is difficult to implement. The strategy execution for digital transformation has therefore become increasingly important but the challenges faced has not been researched to a sufficient degree. Research question: What are the main challenges with strategy execution during a digital transformation process and how can they be managed? Purpose: The purpose of this thesis is to find and describe the main challenges with strategy execution for digital transformation that has been experienced and or perceived by practitioners working in companies that are a part of a concern. These findings will be conceptualised out of which guiding principles will be created and presented.    Method: In this study a qualitative method has been used together with an abductive approach to reasoning. Semi-structured interviews have been performed with eight respondents chosen by a strategic selection for their knowledge about the studied field. Theoretical frame of reference: Theories about strategy execution, change-management, what a digital transformation is, and how it evolves as well as the activity-based process model have been put forward. Within digital transformation some earlier seen challenges that has been a basis for this research are discussed. Conclusions: An overall conclusion that can be drawn from the analysis is that the primary areas that have been looked at, i.e. strategy development; strategy execution and digital transformation, in themselves create challenges. Whether they are correlated with each other or would exist no matter the other factors cannot be discerned from the findings of this thesis, resulting in the fact that the results of the analysis while able to give a foundation and interpretive thoughts, are, in their nature, uncertain. This would mean that albeit an answer to the research question can be presented by the conceptualisation and guiding principles they should not be seen as general for any given population but rather as a description and analysis of the studied population.

Exécution réactive de trajectoires pour robots mobiles non-holonomes

BONNAFOUS, David 22 December 2003 (has links) (PDF)
