Woman of Dust: An Exodus is a collection of themed non-fiction experiences and stories with themes, characters, and ideas that coincide deliberately and verge on the cohesiveness of memoir. The overarching themes of this collection are womanhood and coming of age. The stories examine the ways in which childhood crushes, current relationships, parenting, religion, and pets influence the growth of a child into an adult, in this case, a girl into a woman. They take individual moments, conversations, conventions, and thoughts and explore how they shaped the woman who now writes them. Stories range in content from how the standards of a southern Baptist church raised a girl who was afraid to date, drink, or kiss, about the role of God in the narrator's private life, to stories that explore how cartoon Disney prince crushes turn into crushing on neighbor boys and classmates, discovering the narrator's current conceptions of love as different from her early conceptions and questioning the ways in which those conceptions came into existence in the first place. These stories look at the domestic implications of religious life that dictate specific roles for women in a marriage relationship, and how the narrator interprets these implications in terms of her own love and pending marriage. Still other essays investigate how a mother's overbearing fear of sex, men, and drugs drove one daughter to be a small town porn star and drove the other to complete abstinence, how gender conventions shape a girl's mind, and how family life sometimes contradicts the same conventions. While the subject of each story is deeply feminine, revolving around a woman narrator and woman experiences, the content of these stories creates a very human experience, one outside the confines of gender. They are about one girl turned woman, from one perspective, and about one life, but they are mostly about being human, about growing, and about the ways in which humans grow.

<p>The subject matter of this dissertation is a study of the earliest Israelite religion; it is based on a careful examination of the Song of the Sea, which is one of the oldest extant sources for this period in the Old Testament. The evidence was valuable in showing the monolithic character of the concept of god, the nature of the people of go god, and the concept of the activity of god in the sphere of history at this early stage in Israelite religion. The view that early Israelite religion was at a gorminal stage of development in the early period was shown to be insufficient; the Song gives evidence of a highly creative period in Israelite religious thought.</p> / Doctor of Philosophy (PhD)

Studien syftar till att undersöka utformningen av Guds och Mose-kommunikation och de betydande händelserna i Moses och Egyptens historia, både i filmen Exodus: Gods och Kings och Andra Moseboken. Metoden som används i undersökningen är en traditionell jämförande metod där två objekt jämförs med varandra. Metoden utfördes genom användning av så kallade jämförelsesmatriser och faktorer baserade på definitionen av kommunikation. Undersökningsresultaten baseras på data som förvärvats från föremålen och tidigare forskning. I slutresultatet hittade jag likheterna och skillnaderna mellan objekt i frågorna. / The study aims to examine the design of God and Moses communication and the significant events in the history of Moses and Egypt both in the film Exodus: Gods and Kings and Exodus.The method used in the survey is a traditional comparative method where two objects are compared with each other. The method was performed by using so-called comparison matrices and factors based on the definition of communication. The survey results are based on the basis of data acquired from the objects and previous research. In the final result, I found the similarities and differences between objects in the issues.

Religion och film är ett ämne som fångat mångas intresse, inte minst de som önskar veta huruvida film är ett lämpligt medium för religion och för de som önskar använda filmer i sin religionsundervisning. Denna undersökning kom till för att ge svar på några sådana funderingar genom att undersöka hur två filmatiseringar, Prince of Egypt och Exodus Gods and Kings, skiljer sig från ursprungsberättelsen kring Exodus som finns i andra Moseboken. För att göra detta togs tre frågeställningar fram; om det finns skillnader mellan filmateringarna och grundhistorien och hur dessa i så fall yttrar sig, hur dessa eventuella skillnader påverkar berättelsens framställning samt huruvida filmatiseringarna kan användas i ett undervisningssammanhang. Undersökningen gjordes genom att använda en komparativ metod för att jämföra utvalda scener ur berättelsen med deras motsvarighet i filmatiseringarna och undersöka aspekter så som tidshantering, karaktärer och vilken typ av text de bedöms vara utifrån några förvalda kriterier. Resultatet visade att det finns stora skillnader i tidshanteringen i de utvalda scenerna och att många karaktärer fick en marginell roll som inte uppfyllde samma syfte i filmatiseringarna som de gjorde i den ursprungliga historien. Det gick också att utröna att filmatiseringarna främst var berättande snarare än beskrivande och alltså inte hade återberättande som sitt huvudsakliga syfte utan snarare underhållning. Baserat på dessa resultat kunde slutsatsen dras att det finns ett flertal olika skillnader mellan filmatiseringarna och ursprungshistorien och att dessa påverkar berättelsens framställning i hög grad. Hur framställningen påverkas av dessa ändringar hade behövt undersökas ytterligare. Det gick även att dra slutsatsen att de inte är lämpliga att använda i ett undervisningssammanhang utan att göra eleverna medvetna om de skillnader som finns och föra en diskussion kring dem, vilket är högst tidskrävande.
