Systems approach to defeating Maritime Improvised Explosive Devices in U.S. portsCausee, Christopher, Ellis, Mark, Hellard, Mike, Jimenez, Rich, Cheng, Jua Lim, Nilsson, Julio, Rowden, Bobby, Wheatley, Joel, Winn, Eric, Smith, Tim 12 1900 (has links)
Includes supplemental material. / Insight gained from terrorist attacks, training excercises, and intelligence intercepts over the past few years has shown a renewed interest in the use of mining as an effective means of disrupting commerce and damaging critical infrastructure. In an attempt to develop a system of systems architecture to defeat mines and Maritime IEDs (MIED), the project team developed several system alternatives, or Adaptive Force Packages, that incorporate both existing systems and emerging technologies. Overall performance was assessed using a US Joint Forces Command sponsored wargame simulating an MIED attack on ports based on the geography of Seattle and Tacoma. A critical analysis of the alternatives based on performance, suitability, cost, and risk were carried out. The study results showed that increases in performance are attainable with mixed results in cost and risk, and highlighted necessary actions and considerations that must be taken by military and civilian leaders in order to adequately prepare for and counter MIEDs in U.S. Ports.

Thirteen professional second division soccer players from the Paulista championship were tested on the beginning of the pre-season (T1) and after seven weeks (T2) of training. The players were submitted to vertical jump tests: squat jump (SJ) and countermovement jump (CMJ), reactive force index (IFR=CMJ-SJ) and TW, peak power (PP), mean power (PM) and fatigue index (IF). After TW, 25 μl blood was collected from the earlobe on the 7º, 9º and 11º minute to determine the highest blood lactate concentration ([Lac]). Comparison between variables was performed by Students’ t test for dependent sample, with a significance level of 5%. Were found significant improvements on SJ (T1= 32,76 ± 3,88; T2= 38,03 ± 5,49), CMJ (T1= 37,76 ± 4,88; T2= 40,86 ± 5,62), PP (T1= 10,97 ± 0,90; T2= 12,32 ± 1,12) e PM (T1= 8,34 ± 0,82; T2= 9,78 ± 0,99), respectively. Analýza explozivní síly dolních končetin v průběhu závodního období juniorských reprezentantů ve sjezdovém lyžování / Analysis of the explosive power of the lower limbs during the racing period of junior national downhill skiing teamHavel, Jan January 2021 (has links)
Title: Analysis of the explosive power of the lower limbs during the racing period of junior national downhill skiing team. Objectives: The main aim of this thesis is to determine the possible difference between the level of explosive power of the lower limbs before the racing period and just before the end of the racing period in junior downhill skiing team. Methods: In a double measurement, 10 skiers (n=10) were measured for differences in explosive power levels by using specially made test battery before the start of the racing season (December 2020) and after the end of the season (April 2021). Output measure values were compared to input values and the significance of gains or losses in scores on the output measure was assessed using a reliability test. Results: Over half of the comparisons were substantively significantly better between the input and output measurements. Keywords: force, explosive force, skiing, comparison
