Skyddsutrustning under operation : Den sterilklädda personalens preoperativa val av och motivering till val av skyddsutrustning / Protective equipment during surgery : Preoperative choices and motives of personal protective equipment by scrub staff

Bakgrund: Vid operativa ingrepp finns en risk för överföring av smitta mellan personal och patienter. Lokala riktlinjer ska reglera användningen av personlig skyddsutrustning. Huvudskydd används för att hindra hår och partiklar att falla ner på sterilt område. Ögonskydd skyddar personalens ögonslemhinna mot stänk av kroppsvätskor och användandet av dubbla handskar minskar risk för blodsmitta vid stick- och skärskador. Syfte: Syftet med denna studie är att undersöka preoperativa val av och motivering till val av huvudskydd, ögonskydd och handskar hos operatörer och operationssjuksköterskor.  Metod: I en empirisk, deskriptiv studie med tvärsnittsdesign undersöktes val av och motivering till val av huvudskydd, ögonskydd och handskar. Operationssjuksköterskor och operatörer observerades och tillfrågades med stöd av ett strukturerat frågeformulär. Resultat: På två operationsavdelningar i Stockholms län utfördes 240 observationer. Hjälmmössa valdes vid samtliga observationer inom ortopedi och vid mindre än hälften av övriga tillfällen. Ögonskydd valdes i mycket liten utsträckning av operatörer med motiveringen att de var obekväma. Operationssjuksköterskor valde att använda ögonskydd vid mer än hälften av observationerna med säkerhet som motivering. Dubbla handskar valdes vid 232 av 240 tillfällen. Slutsats: Mössa valdes för att den var bekväm och hjälm för att den rekommenderades. Ögonskydd valdes sällan. Förekomsten av att välja att använda dubbla handskar var god. Klinisk betydelse: Denna studie visar behov av information och utbildning om risken för smittoöverföring under operation. Fler och mer utförliga lokala riktlinjer för personlig skyddsutrustning skulle kunna öka användningen av hjälm och ögonskydd. / Background: Local guidelines are supposed to regulate the use of personal protective equipment to reduce the risk of transmission of infection between patients and staff during surgery. Headwear prevents hair and debris from falling down on the sterile field. Eyewear protects the eye mucosa from splashes of body fluids and the use of double gloving reduces the risk of blood contamination from sharps injuries. Objective: The aim of this study is to investigate the preoperative choices and motives of headwear, protective eyewear and gloves for surgeons and surgical nurses. Method: This is an empirical, descriptive study with cross-sectional design, examining the choices and motives of headwear, protective eyewear and gloves. Surgical nurses and surgeons were observed and questioned using structured questionnaires’. Results: A total of 240 observations were conducted in two surgical wards in the province of Stockholm. The staff chose to wear surgical helmets in all orthopedic surgeries and in less than half of the other surgical procedures. Surgeons did not choose to were protective eyewear, claiming they were uncomfortable. In more than half of the observations surgical nurses wore protective eyewear motivated by security reasons. Double gloving occurred in 232 occasions out of 240. Conclusion: Surgical helmets were chosen due to recommendations. Other types of headwear were chosen because they were comfortable. Eye protection was rarely chosen. The occurrence of double gloving was good. Clinical significance: This study demonstrates the need for information and education regarding the risk of transmission of infection during surgery. More and detailed local guidelines for personal protective equipment could increase the use of helmets and eye protection.

The Impact of Augmented Reality on Product Purchase Intention in the Swedish Eyewear Industry

Background: During the recent years, the applications of Augmented Reality (AR) have increased due to advances in technology and improved accessibility of smart devices. The novel technological use of Augmented Reality is being introduced in the retail sector to create value both for retailers and customers. Through Augmented Reality, potential customers can virtually try and interact with different products on online platforms, saving both time and efforts needed to make their purchase decisions. Purpose: The purpose of this study was to examine the impacts of Augmented Reality on Product Purchase Intentions among millennials in the Swedish eyewear industry; and whether there was a relationship between the use of the technology and the purchasing decisions of customers. Due to the novelty of AR technology and its applications in the eyewear retail industry, there is a lack of theoretical development on the impacts of this technology on purchasing intention of eyewear products. Method: The study was based on the theory of Technology Acceptance Model (TAM), and the Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology 2 (UTAUT2). A quantitative research and an explanatory research approach were conducted and followed by surveying (103) participants belonging to Generation Y in Sweden. The AR mobile application of the largest Scandinavian eyewear retailer, ‘Synsam’ that sells various brands was utilised to carry out the research. Multiple Linear Regression was used to test for the relationship between use of AR technology determinants and the purchase intentions of eyewear products of customers. Conclusion: The findings of this study showed that AR technology had an impact on Product Purchase Intentions. The technology characteristics that were of high importance included information about products (Product Information), virtual interaction with the product (Telepresence) and the enjoyment of using this technology (Hedonic Motivation). Furthermore, Millennials in Sweden have found that using the AR technology to be a useful method for purchasing eyewear products, and that such a technology assisted them in making their purchasing decisions. These findings are useful for managers to satisfy their customers and provide them with unique experiences through AR technology embedded in marketing channels, which serves as a powerful tool for retaining customers and building a unique competitive advantage.

Optimization of a Supply Chain : Christian Dior Couture

Nowadays, all the enterprises in the fashion industry face the problem of variability of supply and demand. Working in fashion implies facing rapid changes, and the success or failure of a company is often determined by the company's ability to adapt and respond quickly to these changes. In addition to having to deal with large quantities of information, the companies must ensure the availability of all their products, in all the stores worldwide, while optimizing inventory levels. This research will focus on Christian Dior Couture and more specifically on the Eyewear. The immediate objective of this research project is to optimize the inventory while maintaining the sales. The information on stock out rates crossed with the sales quantity, the stock and the coverage enables supply chain's managers to make decisions at a store level and at a reference level to reduce the stock at its optimal value without compromising the sales' level. In the future, further studies could be made to try and optimise the reordered quantities in addition to optimizing the current stores' stock.

Unfolding the Assemblage : Towards an Archaeology of 3D Systems

Recent scholarship around the topic of 3D mainly deals with the visual developments that have occurred in the medium during the 21st century. A common perception in these strands of research is that in comparison to the production workflows employed in the analogue era, the 3D compositions that are being crafted through the aid of the ever-evolving digital technology have made 3D develop for the better. Yet a question that nevertheless remains is how the technology itself employed to craft these compositions has evolved. Rather than focusing on the visual developments, the primary aim of this thesis is to render visible the processes and operations of the stereoscopic technology employed to realise this 3D imagery in the first place. Utilising a media archaeological approach indebted to Wolfgang Ernst’s notion of “reverse engineering” technical media objects, I intend to analyse the primary technical components of digital and analogue 3D recording, projection and viewing devices utilised in the production of stereoscopic motion pictures. Moreover, Jonathan Crary’s writings on “the observer” will be used to highlight the important role of the human subject in relation to these binocular media technologies. I conclude that despite the varying production contexts and traditions the digital and analogue formats have been developed in, the primary methods and techniques that characterise digital 3D recording, projection and viewing systems are not specifications simply invented from scratch during the digital age. Through close scrutiny of the stereoscopic systems’ configurations with the aid of Ernst’s media archaeological approach, we are able to trace these supposed developments of the digital age back to the 19th century, when 3D was first realised.
