Aprimorando o corretor gramatical CoGrOO / Refining the CoGrOO Grammar Checker

William Daniel Colen de Moura Silva 06 March 2013 (has links)
CoGrOO is an open source Brazilian Portuguese grammar checker currently used by thousands of users of a popular open source office suite. It is capable of identifying Brazilian Portuguese mistakes such as pronoun placement, noun agreement, subject-verb agreement, usage of the accent stress marker, subject-verb agreement, and other common errors of Brazilian Portuguese writing. To accomplish this, it performs a hybrid analysis; initially it annotates the text using statistical Natural Language Processing (NLP) techniques, and then a rule-based check is performed to identify possible grammar errors. The goal of this work is to reduce omissions and false alarms while improving true positives without adding new error rules. The last rigorous evaluation of the grammar checker was done in 2006 and since then there has been no detailed study on how it has been performing. This work will also contribute a detailed evaluation of low-level NLP modules and the results will be compared to state-of-the-art results. Since the low-level NLP modules are available as open source software, improvements on their performance will make them robust, free and ready-to-use alternatives for other systems.

Cesta touhy: romantismus v románech George Eliot / The Journey of Desire: Romanticism in the Novels of George Eliot

FIALOVÁ, Irena January 2011 (has links)
The diploma thesis Journey of Desire: Romanticism in the Novels of George Eliot is focused on the characteristic romantic items in the novels of the important English woman writer of the 19th century using the pseudonym George Eliot. The thesis deals with just three of the novels: The Mill on the Floss, Middlemarch and Silas Marner. The thesis is focused not only on the romantic items which were characteristic for this woman novelist and which were used just in those three novels, but also on the individual development and dynamics of the female characters in the mentioned novels (especially in the novels The Mill on the Floss and Middlemarch). The diploma thesis is divided into the different chapters presenting topics concerning the life of the author, the period in which she were wrtiting her novels, the Victorian novel as such and the analysis of the development of the characters in Eliot?s novels.

George Eliot, o nome na capa de The mill on the floss

Costa, Monica Chagas da January 2016 (has links)
This work’s objective is to analyze the concept of authorship in the context of George Eliot’s production. In order to do so, two relevant aspects of the author’s activity were defined. The first one is its empirical existence, located within certain practices, as pointed by Martha Woodmansee, Michel Foucault, Marisa Lajolo and Regina Zilberman. The second one, its intratextual operation, as a discoursive instance, distilled from Emile Benveniste’s enunciative theories and from the theoretical propositions of Wayne Booth, Umberto Eco and Wolfgang Iser. These elaborations allowed the development of two analyses: on one hand, of Mary Ann Evans’ (George Eliot’s) trajectory and her role as a late nineteenth century writer, and, on the other, of the novel The Mill on the Floss (1860), in which George Eliot’s authorship is perceived at work. It is noticeable, through the reconstruction of the author’s life, her own reflection on the meaning of authorial practice as a social mission. It is also remarkable, through her novel, the performance o an author figure which organizes the text and directs its reader’s interpretations to determined directions.

More than siblings? : A study of the incestuous relationship between Maggie and Tom in George Eliot's The Mill on the Floss

Pejcinovic, Mirza January 2009 (has links)

Because of the many similarities between the life of George Eliot and the lives of Maggie and Tom Tulliver in The Mill on The Floss, Eliot’s novel has been understood as an autobiographical novel. The aim of the essay is to, by using a psychoanalytical perspective, examine if the fictional characters could be said to be engaged in an incestuous relationship even though they do not engage in a sexual relationship. Though their relationship never becomes sexual, there are factors which could support a claim that brother and sister are engaged in an non-sexual incestuous relationship.

An Open Source Technoscape in India: Motivations, Manifestations, and Speculations

Srinivasan, Sumitra 21 August 2006 (has links)
My dissertation studies the political and corporate reasons behind the adoption of free and open source software technologies in a developing nation, India. This study also attempts to understand the significance of these grassroots technologies for India as it plays on a global arena. How do “free” and “open source software” movements develop in an Indian context and bridge digital divides? The core of the first chapter will establish the questions investigated in this study as well as the significance of this interdisciplinary project for India. It is also important to understand that the varied roles of governments and corporations supporting a new technology, are crucial to its success. Chapter 2 studies the motivations of the Indian government towards adopting free and open-source technologies. The motivations of the industry are different from governmental motivations. In chapter 3, the landscape of Indian software industry players and their reasons for supporting these software technologies are discussed. How do governmental and industry motivations translate? Are they successful and do they live up to their hype? Chapter 4 distinguishes between the hype and reality of the software landscape in India and presents a larger picture of the controversies surrounding software development, in general. A concluding essay of chapter 5 couches the entire project within the process of globalization, speculating its significance for sustainable global information flows.

Traduire les voix dans The mill on the Floss de George Eliot

Henri-Lepage, Savoyane January 2004 (has links)
The Mill on the Floss, by Victorian novelist George Eliot, is a polylinguistic novel in Bakhtine's sense of the word in that it integrates the linguistic diversity of the society which it depicts. This novel published in 1860 was translated six times into French but never enjoyed a great reception in France. We examine three translations in this thesis: the first is by Francois D'Albert-Durade (1863), the second is by Lucienne Molitor (1957) and the last is by Alain Jumeau (2003). / D'Albert-Durade's translation evacuates the linguistic diversity in order to shape the novel to the requirements of the target literary polysystem. Molitor, by homogenising the eliotian prose, turns the canonised English novel into a French popular novel. Jumeau, for his part, by rehabilitating the peasant sociolect in his translation, marks the beginning of a rehabilitation movement of George Eliot in France. This study, through the analysis of the voice of a few key characters, attempts to follow the French "translative journey" of The Mill on the Floss.
