Procházková, Petra January 2014 (has links)
The diploma thesis on the topic of "Analysis of options to expand the products of "fair trade" and evaluation of their impact on growers in the Czech Republic" in the theoretical part generally deals with the program "fair trade", especially with its principles and certification process. It also focuses on the growing system and price of the fairtrade bananas. In the practical part through a questionnaire survey were discovered consumer preferences in purchasing of the fairtrade products and tropical fruit, and possibilities of the expansion of these products, and in addition it was determined their effect on the products of domestic production. 300 people replied to the questionnaire. Furthermore, the analysis of the prices of bananas was carried out, which was a supplementary tool for the evaluation of the survey. Also the SWOT analysis of the fairtrade small farmer was made, which aimed to identify the positive and negative factors of its membership in a fairtrade association.

We describe the settlement of northeastern Brazil and discuss the meaning of hinterland, as well as characterize the municipality of Bodocó and reported briefly your history inextricably linked to the fairs. We report the presence and contributions of historical cultural heritage left by the ancestors of African descent and African lands bodocoenses through the techniques of production of flour, items made of clay, leather and fibers caroá. For this we use the techniques and methods of oral history that took us along with the bibliography to realize the black presence in local history and civilization as a factor of fundamental importance to the teaching of history was also a topic of discussion in this paper where we perceive strong brand Eurocentrism over what is Brazilian, African, African descent. We propose that the heritage bequeathed to our generation by African ancestors in the city of Bodocó and present in weekly markets is subject of local history classes fulfilling what determines the Law 10.639/03 and education leading to a fair and equitable way where we can valuing cultural diversity and include the diversity of students that schools receive for bringing the classroom to their ancestry, historicity and cultural identity.

DimensÃes de inovaÃÃes organizacionais e sociais no processo de certificaÃÃo fair trade: o caso da casa Apis / Dimensions of organizational and social innovations in the process of certified fair trade: the case of Apis house

Johnny Herberthy Martins Ferreira 03 August 2012 (has links)
The exclusion of small producers in the global market is characterized as a major obstacle to the development of the underprivileged section of society. As a result, small producers, associated in cooperatives are seeking new markets and promoting the inclusion of products from family agricultural in the international market through fair trade (fair trade). Therefore, the development of social and organizational innovations become part of an alternative to overcome this challenge. Thus, the aim of this study is to analyze the dimensions of social and organizational innovations in the certification process in a fair trade cooperative central bee in northeastern Brazil. The qualitative research was conducted through a case study along with a Central Cooperative Apicultural the Brazilian Semiarid - Home Apis - consisting of eight member cooperatives. The theoretical discourses on organizational innovations, social innovations and fair trade certification. Primary data was collected through semi-structured interviews and diaries entries field. Since the secondary data were collected via documents, articles, dissertations and web sites. Data analysis was performed according to the theoretical framework of this study and the use of the technique of content analysis (BARDIN, 1995) and triangulation of different sources of evidence (YIN, 2005). The results were based on the requirements of FLO (Fairtrade Labelling Organizations International) on fair trade certification process and showed the dimensions of organizational innovation in the areas described by Lam (2004) and the dimensions of social innovation described in the model developed by CRISES (Centre de Recherche sur les innovations sociales) of Canada. The dimensions for the analysis of organizational innovation were the "organizational structure", "the process of learning and knowledge creation" and "organizational change and adaptation." Regarding social innovation, the dimensions analyzed were the social innovations "territorial", the social innovations in "labor relations and employment generation" and social innovations in "conditions of life". The low formalization documentary cooperatives, producers with little knowledge about fair trade, non-compliance with statutory and little financial resources were some of the obstacles and barriers identified in the fair trade certification process. Among some of the issues identified in the analysis of the dimensions of organizational innovation are featured: the organization of the production base, the partnership of various institutions to support and process development for export of honey fair trade. The fair trade honey with a minimum price guaranteed a fair price to beekeepers, the award fair trade and support networks were the most reported in the dimensions of social innovation.

A low complexity algorithm for dynamic fair resource allocation in OFDMA systems

Essays on accounting conservatism and goodwill write-offs

Jarva, H. (Henry) 10 August 2010 (has links)
Abstract One of the major features of financial reporting is conservatism. Accounting conservatism is traditionally defined by the adage “anticipate no profit, but anticipate all losses.” Accounting conservatism is manifested in two general but distinct ways. First, conservatism can be unconditional, meaning that the book value of net assets is understated due to predetermined accounting practices (e.g. immediate expensing of research and development expenditures as incurred). Second, conservatism can be conditional, meaning that the book value of assets is written down under sufficiently adverse circumstances, but not up under favorable circumstances (e.g. goodwill impairment rules). This dissertation focuses only on conditional conservatism. The purpose of this dissertation is to increase our understanding of conditional conservatism through three inter-related essays. These essays seek to answer the following research questions: (1) Are standard measures of conditional conservatism affected by the asymmetry in cash flows? (2) How does “bad news” contribute to the persistence of accruals and cash flows? (3) Do firms manage fair value based goodwill write-offs under Statement of Financial Accounting Standards No. 142 (SFAS 142)? (4) What are the economic consequences of SFAS 142 goodwill write-offs? Collectively, the empirical results of this dissertation further our understanding of the determinants and implications of conditional conservatism. The first essay demonstrates that the asymmetry in cash flows biases standard measures of conditional conservatism. The second and third essays are one of the first to assess conservatism using an individual accrual account, namely, SFAS 142 goodwill write-offs. The second essay examines the reliability of goodwill write-offs, while the third essay provides evidence on the economic consequences of goodwill write-offs. The findings of these two essays are important for the debate on whether fair value measurements in financial statements are appropriate.
