O FANDANGUEIRO NARRADOR: cultura popular, território e as contradições do Brasil moderno nas modas de viola caiçara / The storyteller fiddler: popular culture, territory and the contradictions of modern Brazil within the songs of traditional \"Caissara\" people of Southern Brazilian Coast

Costa, Bruno Esslinger de Britto 13 April 2015 (has links)
\'Fandango\' is a musical expression intimately connected to the ways of life developed by traditional communities on the southeastern Brazilian coast. Beginning with the unity between dance, music, poetry and between labour, leisure and symbolic life - unities that have historically characterized this practice - the research aims to discover ways towards a critical comprehension of capitalist modernization of Brazilian territory within folk music. The paper draws upon the characteristics and the history of \'fandango\' in order to establish relations between social elements with musical forms and narratives, unveiling contradictions and disjunctions of a structurally uneven and violent process that completely alters the conditions of existence of oral traditions. At the same time, the theme of folk culture is inserted into the historical context of the formation of Brazil as a peripheral country within the international division of labour, where the coexistence of ancient and modern forms leads to a number of contemporary issues- i.e. environmental degradation, cultural heritage, the urban-rural relation, to name a few. The main objective is to build a dialectical approach towards the study of modernity and tradition, in which resistance and hegemony are seen as parts of the same totality.

Reflexões sobre a eficácia do registro do fandango caiçara como forma de expressão do patrimônio cultural do Brasil / Reflections on the Effectiveness of the Registration of the Fandango Caiçara as Form of Expression of the Cultural Heritage of Brazil

Coelho, Daniele Maia Teixeira 03 December 2013 (has links)
This Masters Dissertation intends to evaluate the effectiveness of the cultural heritage of immaterial natures protection in Brazil by means of the registration provided by Decree n. 3.551/2000, which was partially regulated by article 216 of the Federal Constitution of 1988 and was granted by the Institute of National Historical and Artistic Heritage (IPHAN). For that it is based on a case study involving the musical-choreographic-poetic and festive genre called Fandango Caiçara, which is orally transmitted from generation to generation within the caiçara traditional community located in the municipalities of Iguape and Cananéia, in the south coast of the State of São Paulo, and in the municipalities of Morretes, Paranaguá and Guaraqueçaba, in the north coast of the State of Paraná and whose registration as Cultural Heritage of Brazil before the IPHAN occured on November 29, 2012 in the Book of Forms of Expression. Our analysis also seeks to consider the socialenvironmental aspects involved as well as the challenges that, in our opinion, should be faced by the caiçara traditional community before the obtainment of said registration.

Rosén, Nils January 2015 (has links)
The purpose of this paper consists of examining the different ways of thinking about death and life beyond death conveyed in the game Grim Fandango Remastered. This was done by using a theoretical framework consisting of a self invented definition of death called "Bodily death". This definition consists of common notions about death such as cessation of life functions like movement, metabolism, respiration and overall cessation of brain functions. It also included cessation of vital processes, which includes the ability to make energy transfer, making reparations, for example by cell replication, as well as the waste system of the body.  Besides this, the study examines the prevalence of dualism, a conception that views the soul essential to the individual's mental state. Two kinds of dualism were investigated, simple dualism with the assumption that the individual is made up of the soul, and compound dualism, where soul and body are dependent on each other for the survival of the individual. The study also examined the prevalence of materialism, a mindset where the individual is comprised of a combination of things without life or consciousness, in other words an existence dependent of the body. The results showed mainly a view that was non agreeable with bodily death, as the characters had many life signs such as breathing, ability to move, nutrition, metabolism and other signs of functions that would not be possible without the brain's functionality. Furthermore as shown with sprouted, the death within death in the game which consisted of becoming overgrown with flowers, showed signs of life rather than bodily death, as flowers have the vital process of photosynthesis. The game also showed mainly ideas of dualism as the characters often was referred as souls. The kind of dualism that occurred most however was compound dualism because the game often implied that characters died when their bodies became destroyed.

Selected Harpsichord Sonatas by Antonio Soler: Analysis and Transcription for Classical Guitar Duo.

Vera, Fernand Toribio 12 1900 (has links)
Due to the limited repertoire for the guitar from the Baroque period, classical guitarists who wish to perform music from this era have to work primarily with transcriptions. Guitarists draw from various sources from this period such as vocal and instrumental music for the five-course guitar, lute and the harpsichord. Of these sources, the repertoire for the harpsichord is perhaps the most frequently arranged for various guitar formations because its textures are greatly similar to those of the guitar repertoire. As a result, harpsichord music tends to transfer well to the guitar. Baroque harpsichord composers such as Domenico Scarlatti, Johann Sebastian Bach, François Couperin, and Jean-Philippe Rameau-to name a few-have a permanent home in the classical guitar canon and represent the musical tastes and styles of Italy, Germany, and France. These composers exemplify the various stylistic differences between the above-mentioned countries; yet, the harpsichord music of Spain is largely underrepresented in guitar collections. One of the most noteworthy Spanish harpsichordists was Padre Antonio Soler (1729-1783), who composed 120 sonatas for the instrument. When considering the ease with which some of his works transfer to the guitar, and specifically guitar duo, much can be gained by expanding the repertoire and exploring the Spanish Baroque style. The purpose of this study is three-fold: first, to present transcriptions of Antonio Soler's Sonata No. 85 and Fandango for guitar duo; second, to provide analysis of Sonata No. 85 with an emphasis on the intervallic features of the motives; third, to give an overview of the transcription process of Fandango for guitar duo while including a study of Spanish Baroque guitar and the appropriate stylistic effects drawn from its repertoire that can be incorporated in the arrangement.
