The current scenario shows the search for healthier foods, what can be largely found by production which comes from aquaculture. Brazil has natural favorable characteristics for exploration fish farming, however, it still requires many studies and a greater understanding of the sector's peculiarities to become more competitive. One of the alternatives to the production increasing, in a sustainable and competitive manner, is by the creation of the fish cages system. This process of cultivation consists of fish creation using floating cages in rivers, lakes and seas. In this type of cultivation, it was pointed the potential for the use of reservoirs of hydroelectric stations, which generate large flooded areas and become this production technique ideal. The reservoir of the hydroelectric power station (HPS) from Ilha Solteira in Paraná River has performed an important role in fish production scenario. Even so, there is a scarcity of studies related to the theory of social networks and financial aspects of fish farming activity. Therefore, in this research, there is a deeper analyzes involving these issues. In this respect, this present research came from a qualitative and exploratory case study, supported by the innovative character, combining the approaches of relationships in networks and financial aspects of the activity. The objective of this research is to analyze the social networks of the fish farm of tilapia in HPS reservoir cages from Ilha Solteira, its network performance motivators and the impact on financial aspects. Despite not being on this study's objectives, some positive externalities were consolidated, offering a database for better planning, sector coordination and greater bargaining power by the fish farmers. In addition, this research may serve as a basis to develop public policies to strengthen the activity. As a result of the research, we could confirm that the insertion in social networks has influence on fish farmers, in various aspects, but influences in the financial aspects of the activity were not detected, being that aspect more related to the size of the fish farming. Some vulnerabilities of tilapia production chain in the studied region were found, such as problems with the supply of fish cub / juveniles, the monopolized market of feed and the lack of coordination between the fish farmers.

Digital Transformations in Family Businesses : An exploratory study examining how non-financial aspects influence digital transformations in family businessesLindholm, Pontus, Stewart, Brandon January 2021 (has links)
Background: The advancement and spread of digitalization is reshaping the commercial landscape for firms, executing proper and adequate digital transformations have therefore become a necessity in order to thrive in the digital era. Existing literature has indicated that the unique and distinctive characteristics that family businesses possess may shape the way such firms handle various change efforts. However, research of how family firms handle digital transformations is heavily undeveloped, where the non-financial aspects’ influence on such transformations has yet to be assessed. Purpose: The purpose of this thesis is to investigate how non-financial aspects could influence a digital transformation process in family businesses. By fulfilling this purpose, additional insights can be contributed and enable a more thorough understanding of how non-financial aspects influence digital transformations in a family business. Method: This qualitative and exploratory thesis, guided by an inductive approach, has utilized a multiple case study containing four different cases in order to generate more insights and create a better understanding regarding the topic at hand. Eleven semi-structured interviews have been conducted and a thematic analysis has served as guidance when interpreting and analyzing the data. Conclusion: The results of the research reveal that four non-financial aspects were identified through the multiple case study. However, merely three of the four non-financial aspects identified were found to influence digital transformations in family businesses, encompassing both advantages and challenges which consequently affect a digital transformation. Additionally, the results show that one of the non-financial aspects solely had a positive influence on digital transformations, while the other two had both a positive and negative influence.

The future and sustainability of private medical care in South AfricaLoubser, Petrus Abel 12 1900 (has links)
Thesis (MBA)--Stellenbosch University, 2007. / ENGLISH ABSTRACT: This study provides an overview of the medical aid industry in South Africa and highlights the
impact of the formation of the Council for Medical Schemes through the implementation of the
Medical Schemes Act of 1998. The regulatory framework that governs the medical aids in South
Africa is analysed.
In this study. different medical aid funds are compared in terms of administration costs, required
solvency levels and membership numbers relative to the acceptable industry averages. The main
cost drivers of medical aid funds that could also threaten the future of private medical care are
identified, as these services may not be affordable to most South Africans in the future.
The new vision of government in terms of healthcare is outlined, and the regulations that will be
implemented to transform the healthcare sector into a Social Health Insurance system, and
ultimately into a National Health Insurance system. are analysed. The proposed mechanisms,
such as the Risk Equalisation Fund, the Government Employees Medical Scheme and lowincome
medical schemes, are discussed, highlighting all their advantages as well as the
associated risks for the sustainability of private medical care.
The proposed new legislation and the potential negative financial impact on the private medical
industry are analysed with detailed reference to the Medical Schemes Act of 1998 and the
Medicines and Related Substance Control and Amendment Act of 1997. The implications of
fundamental changes proposed in private health insurance, such as community risk rating versus
the traditional individual risk rating, are discussed. The negative impact of prescribed minimum
benefits (which include HIV/Aids) on the financial sustainability of the medical aid industry is
highlighted.
The impact of HIV/Aids on the sustainability of the medical aid industry is discussed and some
conclusions and recommendations are made regarding the financial sustainability of the medical
aid industry and hence the future of private medical care in South Africa.
