Abstract Progressive collapse implies that a local damage on a building leads to a continuing collapse. This can include the whole or a part of the building. It was first in 1968, after a gas explosion in a 22 story building, Ronan Point, London that led to a progressive collapse that made the world aware of this problem and that it needed to be addressed. The event made that certain standards was implemented in several countries to decrease the risk of progressive collapse. The standards for progressive collapse arrived in Sweden 1972. In Sweden there is two standards that concerns dimensioning about progressive collapse, which are 1991-1-7 and 1992-1-1. Although the standards are hard to interpret and design engineers have had to draw their own conclusions. This paper does only focus on rules about vertical and horizontal joints. In the paper the difficulty that comes with dimensioning the different standards are interpreted and made clear. The interpretations that have been made in this paper is suggestions and to show how well the theory is matched to the practice, to showcase this I’ve made some prefabricated cases. The most important conclusions of this paper is: The actors need to have more knowledge about progressive collapse It’s a clear that we need a standardized method, because practitioners are doing it in many different ways Today’s standards need to be supplemented from different areas, which is shown in chapter 5.1.1 There is also further studies needed in this area, progressive collapse Keywords: Progressive collapse, Vertical joints, Horizontal joints, Accidental action

Viktiga faktorer för utländska direktinvesteringar i Sub-Sahara : en tvärsnittanalys

FDI har sedan början på 80-talet växt sig allt större och blivit en av de viktigaste tillgångarna till finansiellt och fysiskt kapital i världen. FDI har enligt många studier en viktig funktion för ett lands ekonomiska utveckling, detta gäller främst för outvecklade länder men också utvecklade länder. Studiens mål var att hitta viktiga faktorer som påverkade FDI inflöde till Sub-Sahara regionen. Den empiriska analysen gjordes med hjälp av en OLS regressionsmodell och hade 42 observationer sammanlagt. Huvudvariabeln var FDI/BNP. Resultatet av den empiriska analysen visade att den viktigaste faktoren för FDI inflöde hos länder söder om Sahara är ett lands ekonomiska öppenhet. Öppenhet visade en positiv signifikans i alla regressioner som gjordes. BNP per capita hade en negativ signifikans i den första regressionen men visade ingen signifikans när kunskapskapital och språkskillnader testades i regressioner. Variabeln för naturtillgångar hade en positiv signifikans när en tredje regression gjordes där länder delades upp i två språkkategorier.

Captured in the room of Göran Tunström’s spoken language, fenced behind his barrier of manic words. This essay is about the limit of language and world’s necessity to be spoken to be experience, about telling as a manufacturer of meaning and a subject’s motion between fiction and reality. Based on the novel Skimmer from 1996, my purpose is to identify “a linguistic room” in Tunström’s narration and show how this room is given an existential character by its temporal and spatial dimensions. The linguistic room is an abstraction of the virtual experience of a story and how this virtual room seeks to transform into reality, the same way as language tries to capture its reference by being its referent. Using Jacques Derrida’s and Roland Barthes’ structuralist ideas about language as a complex referential medium, Mikhail Bakhtin’s chronotope and Gaston Bachelard’s phenomenological and psychoanalytic theory about the poetics of room, I examine the linguistic room as habitation for the protagonists in Tunström’s novel and how richness of language could turn into experience of insufficiency. Language giving the subject nutrition to prosper and outgrow its existence depends on its ability of making it bigger by recreating, specifying and defining experience of life. Not only living it but also verbalizing it makes the existence vaster but at the same time insufficient since the insight will come about world’s inability to be captured but only referred to by linguistic instruments. Thus this essay studies the relation between language and existence and how narration concretizes this relation into a linguistic room.

The great potential on the Brazilian market : A study of different types of acquisition strategies on the Brazilian market

Background: Emerging economies is more fragile for global actions than developed markets, and they struggle to keep the economic growth consistent. Brazil, as an emerging economy, has one of the higher growth in the world, but the country has had some difficulties during the last years and foreign direct investments have decreased. Most foreign direct investments activities tend to go north-to-north, and the most common investment strategy is acquisition and the success is related to the type of activity and industry. Purpose: The purpose of this thesis is to investigate what type of cross-border acquisitions companies choose to be involved in and which financial factors have the greatest impact, when entering the Brazilian market. Theory: The theoretical framework consists of theories related to acquisition strategies to answer formulated purpose. Following theories have been used as an analytical tool in the thesis: merger and acquisition waves, horisontal, vertical and conglomerate strategies and information asymmetry. Method: This study is based on a mixed method design with inductive and deductive approach. Statistical data have been gathered together with four semistructured interviews to gain data about ingoing acquisitions in Brazil. The statistical data have been gathered from the database Zephyr. Conclusion: To summarize the conclusions, ingoing cross-border acquisitions in Brazil follow a wave-like pattern that is mostly depending on horisontal acquisitions, were the financial factors that have the greatest impact is information, taxation, labor and laws.

Partnerskap: intensjon og virkelighet i NAV reformens velferdskontor

<p>The new Welfare Reform in Norway consists of the establishment of a new welfare office; NAV office. The NAV office will open in all municipalities within 2010 as local partnerships between the state and the municipals as equal partners. The central government will keep responsibility for the national services and the local governments will keep responsibility for the locally provided welfare services. As such the NAV office will consist of two separate public servcelines, with the accountabilities for their individual services intact. The Government wished to keep the separation between the national and local governmental services but needed to ensure the provision of a more holistic, integrated and effective service delivery, more in tune with the public need. The aim was to provide a more joined-up welfare service and to put more effect behind the efforts to achieve the reform goals: increased work participation, more user-friendly services and more effective public administration. The NAV office as such becomes a local one-stop-shop.</p><p>The challenge of this partnership is that two separate, traditionally hierarchic public structures embark on a partnership venture where the more relational and both vertical and horizontal communicational skills are required, true to the spirit of the joined-up government model. Our aim with this study was to investigate how a few early onset NAV offices cope with this partnership stunt. We particularly wished to examine how the partners establish and use the important vertical and horizontal dimensions, and how the partnership manager operate to facilitate the partnership activities.</p><p>We mean that the focus of 4 partnership actors rather than two governmental partners is more correct with respect to depicting the situation in the local NAV partnerships and how the central partnership managerial duties are shared. We have developed a new model of how they divide the partnership responsibilities between them and the operations of an emergent essential partnership driving force. We have also due to the nature of the NAV partnership actors and the way they operate in the partnership, developed a new partnership model. This dialogue model is a more accurate picture of the NAV partnership than the original partnership model.</p><p>The early attempts to provide integrated services has not reached the potential we have hoped for, partially due to the allowance of the two partners to continue service production in the old way while the reform structure and following administrative challenges are ironed out. We believe that an understanding of the particularities of partnership management and the adherence of the relational qualities to the partnership structure is a prerequisite in successfully managing the NAV partnership and thus the reform goals. This needs to be the imminent focus of the reform participants.</p>

Dedicated educators sometimes default, leaving their wronged learners out m the cold. The questions are therefore: • What causes this conduct of educators and why does it recur? • Is it ignorance of their legal position? • Is it insensitivity to common law principles and statutory provisions? • Is it sheer carelessness? Mindful of the introduction of the South African Constitution Act 108 of 1996, wh1ch contains the long-awaited Bill of Fundamental Rights, this study has been undertaken to give an educational-juridical perspective of the educator-learner relationship 1n South African public schools by means of a literature study and an elementary legal comparative study. Various legal terms which influence the educator-learner relationship significantly are defined. Dimensionering och konstruktion av passiv mekanisk pitch för småskaliga horisontalaxlade vindkraftverk / Design and construction of passive mechanical pitch for small-scale horizontal axis wind turbines

För vindkraftverk i mindre skala används i huvudsak två sätt att avlasta vid höga vindhastigheter, stallreglering och girning ur vind. En tredje metod är att pitcha rotorbladet till en mindre attackvinkel. Då minskar belastningen på rotorbladet samtidigt som effektgenerering kan bibehållas. Arbetet redovisar en konstruktion för en fjädrande passiv mekanisk pitch som avgränsats till att enbart dimensionera en vridfjäder och tre lager. Konstruktionen riktas mot horisontalaxlade vindkraftverk med tre rotorblad med en rotordiameter upp till 20m. Ett idealt rotorblad modelleras matematiskt för att ta fram dimensionerande krafter och moment. Utifrån detta kan sedan vridfjäder och lager dimensioneras. Konstruktionen tillsammans med dimensioneringen visar att belastning av rotorbladet kan reduceras samt att krafter som är kopplad till effekten kan hållas mer eller mindre konstant för vindhastigheter 16 till 24 m/s. Resultat av dimensionering visar att både vridfjäder och lager kan relativt enkelt anpassas till olika axeldiametrar. Slutsatserna blir att om dimensionering görs enligt arbetet är det, åtminstone i teorin, möjligt att uppnå det önskade beteendet för pitchen. För vidare arbete och verifiering rekommenderas bland annat att göra reella tester för vridfjädern för att bestämma dess precision på grund av fjäderns små vinkelutslag. / For small-scale wind turbines, there are mainly two ways of reducing loads at high wind speeds, stall regulation and yaw the rotor out of wind. A third method is to pitch the rotor blade to a smaller angle of attack. This reduces the load on the rotor blade while maintaining power generation. The following work presents a design for a spring based passive mechanical pitch that is limited to only dimensioning a torsion spring and three bearings. The design is aimed at horizontal axis wind turbines with three rotor blades with a rotor diameter up to 20m. An ideal rotor blade is mathematically modeled to produce the forces and torques needed in order to properly dimension the torsion spring and bearings. The design shows that the load of the rotor blade can be reduced and that forces connected to the power can be kept more or less constant for wind speeds 16 to 24 m / s. The results of sizing show that both the torsion spring and bearings can be adapted to different shaft diameters relatively easy. The conclusions are that if dimensioning is done according to the presented results, it is possible, at least in theory, to achieve the desired behaviour. For further development and verification it is recommended to do real tests for the torsion spring to determine its precision due to small angle displacement in the spring.
