SUMMATIVE EVALUATION OF THE HIGH SCHOOL FINANCIAL PLANNING PROGRAM IN RURAL KENTUCKY

Setari, Ryan R 01 January 2014 (has links)
The purpose of this summative program evaluation was to determine if the High School Financial Planning Program (HSFPP) impacts the financial literacy of Kentucky high school students. The HSFPP is a national financial education program used by Kentucky public schools with the goal of improving financial literacy of participants. This evaluation is the first to use a one-group pre-test and post-test design to determine if the target group’s financial literacy is impacted by participation in the program. The results found that students’ financial literacy, and knowledge of specific components related to financial literacy, were impacted by participation. The results imply that the HSFPP is progressing toward the external stakeholders’ goal of improving Kentucky students’ financial literacy. This evaluation also piloted the use of a financial literacy measurement tool. The measurement tool was found to have several validity issues, and revisions are recommended for future evaluations.

Financial literacy competencies of third-year university students : a case study / Johannes Jurgens Louw

Louw, Johannes Jurgens January 2009 (has links)
There seems to be a definite need for financial literacy education and training, especially under young people. The lack of financial literacy seems to be from a lack of sufficient financial education. A lack in personal financial skills seems to be an international problem. The primary aim of this research is to evaluate the financial literacy competencies of university students, and to make recommendations on improving their competencies, if necessary. Financial literacy was defined as: "a financially literate individual should have a positive attitude towards his/her finances and learning, the understanding to take control of his/her own finances; the ability to discern good from bad financial decisions, and the skills to make it practical." The advantages of being financially literate seem to be overwhelming. Financial education or training seems to have a positive effect on individuals. The timing of financial literacy education, what and how to provide financial literacy education about, seems to play a vital role. It seems to have a positive impact if this training is provided early in life. There seems to be certain topics that form a vital part when compiling a personal finance curriculum, such as financial planning, budgeting, credit, investments and retirement A questionnaire was completed by third-year students from the North-West University's Potchefstroom Campus. Respondents in this study indicated that they viewed learning more about personal finance as important. Also, the respondents in this study do not appear to be financially competent in all areas. They lacked knowledge in the fields of banking, taxation, financial planning, interest rates, inflation and legal matters in terms of financial matters. Students from the Faculty of Economic and Management Sciences performed best and students from the Faculty of Health Sciences performed worst. Students who did a short course in personal finance had an advantage and students who were only exposed to this at school level performed worst. The challenge to educate scholars and students to be responsible, economic participants is great and a call is made to role players to attend to this as soon as possible. / Thesis (M.Com. BLAHOUTOVÁ, Žaneta January 2014 (has links)
The aim of the diploma thesis is to explore the activities of the countries of the European Union in the district of financial literacy and to draw conclusions and eventually recommendations for the Czech Republic. At first, activities were detected in the district of financial literacy of the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Germany, Austria and New Zealand and consequently were drew conclusions. Severally countries have developed many projects for improving financial literacy, but financial literacy isn´t still equally high in these countries, as it was showed by research PISA 2012. Next, questionaire relevant to financial institutions was applied to inhabitants of South Bohemia. The research was evaluated graphically and statistically. For statistical evaluation was used test assessment of independence Chi-quadrat for contingent table. The results of own research are very disturbing. Inhabitants of South Bohemia lack knowledge of important financial notions, they don´t know the difference between debit and credit cards and they don´t know, what is the APRC. One of the important results of the questionaire includes trust of the people to staff of the branches of banks or insurance companies. These people would contacted with most respondents in the case of dissatisfaction with the course of financial services. Contrariwise, people behave distrust to financial advisors, a few respondents use their services. The results of research correspond to the general level of financial literacy in the Czech Republic, which was discovered by general methods based on researches of Czech National Bank or PISA before now.

In this dissertation we accosted concerning questions to the inicial formation of the Mathematics teachers, starting from the incorporation of theTechnologies of Information and Communication (TIC) and of ideas related to the need of a Financial Education for all. In this sense, our objective was to investigate the contributions that appear to the pedagogic practice of the graduates in Mathematics when they build and they apply WebQuests about the context of the Financial Mathematics. For so much, a course of Extension about construction of WebQuests was offered to the students of the Degree Course in Mathematics of UNESP, Rio Claro - SP, the ones which, later, they used WebQuests built as didactic material during the Supervised Apprenticeship (teaching practice) that accomplished a public school of Rio Claro, SP. The course of Extension, as well as all the investigation here presented, it was developed having for base the theory of learning construcionista. Besides, ourselves based in works that treat of the teaching initial formation, especially, of the Mathematics teachers, and also, of the importance of the Financial Education in the people's life. Based on the accomplished study, we believe that starting from the moment that the graduates live a differentiated initial formation, that it also privileges the use of TIC in the Education, besides the specific contents, we will be forming teachers more prone to use TIC in his educational practice, in way to propose to their students situations in which they will have to create, to discuss and to contemplate about their actions.

HENRIQUE E O ROBÔ DIM: GAMEBOOK PARA APOIAR O PROCESSO DE ENSINO E APRENDIZAGEM DE EDUCAÇÃO FINANCEIRA INFANTIL / HENRIQUE AND THE ROBOT DIM: GAMEBOOK TO ENCOURAGE FINANCIAL EDUCATION TEACHING AND LEARNING PROCESS IN CHILDHOOD

Mello, Felipe da Cunha de 29 August 2016 (has links)
Nowadays, there are great governmental and educational institutions efforts to promote financial education in Brazil, driven by social and economic politics which have been adopted in this country. At the same time, there is a notable technological evolution and encouragement of information and Communication Technologies (ICT) didactics and pedagogical tools in school routine. Therefore, this scientific dissertation presents an investigation of how a gamebook can promote the financial education learning in childhood. Through a survey, characterized as exploratory using bibliographic review, it was possible to feature childhood financial education area as well as identify how it is applied at schools in Santa Maria/RS. As a result, it was obtained requirements in order to develop a learning object which could be used as a financial education disseminator. Thus, with this research it was observed that the construction of knowledge in finances has been permeated by several technological and media tools. However, the main resource which is being used to attract child attention is ludic activities. In addition, a way to work with ludic activities is the integration of game elements with book characteristics, connecting tradition and technology, in order to follow this new reality. Wherefore, considering this association it was decided to develop a gamebook, attractive tool for education, migrating from physic book to digital book. It was elaborated the gamebook "Henrique and the robot Dim" throughout a construction of a narrative presenting situations of financial choosing, creation of digital scenarios and characters, and the integration of the narrative with the digital environment and game elements. As a purpose of evaluating this gamebook, it was applied on students of fifth grade from both private and public schools in Santa Maria/RS. As a result, it was observed that the technology as a teaching tool enhances student participation during class, mostly when educational ludic activities are applied. In addition, it was noticed a possible increased student's financial education interest. This dissertation is part of Stricto Sensu Post-Graduation Program in Educational Technologies in Networks, with area of interest in Educational Technologies development, and has developed the gamebook called "Henrique and the robot Dim" / Atualmente, há um grande esforço dos governantes e instituições para promover a educação financeira no Brasil, impulsionado pelas políticas sociais e econômicas que vem sendo adotadas.

Our motherlands current economic situation makes us reflect on the importance of studying the Financial Education since elementary school, so that we can educate our younger generation to make our country a healthier financially. This dissertation discusses many distinguished fashions for teaching high school students on how to invest, finance and, above all, getting them to know the investment funds that are used the most in our country. After being familiarized with these investment funds, the young students will learn the importance of saving and investing. Methods like Newtons linear approximation will help in their financial calculations, as well as making them acquainted with a fundamental tool for this field. The study of amortization systems will help students acknowledge our countrys most common financing choices, especially regarding the purchase of their first car or real estate. The methodology chosen for this dissertation was essentially a bibliographical research. In conclusion, with the help of examples and exercises with a focus on the daily life, there will be a greater interest among kids and teenagers in learning Financial Mathematics and its application in the most diverse situations.
