Panorama da produção de mobiliário residencial em madeira no Brasil / Overview of production of residential furniture made out of wood in Brazil

Nossack, Ana Frieda Ávila 09 April 2014 (has links)
The branch of industry for the production of residential furniture made out of wood and derivatives was restructured on the last two decades, in the 90\'s through the widening of international trade, and from 2000 on, through the growth of the internal market. The purpose of this work is to present an overview of this production in Brazil, nowadays targeted to the internal market, and identify its productive basis, the supply of inputs and raw materials, production itself and sale. An attempt was made to follow the branch\'s dynamics, and to seek and localize the development and appropriation of innovative practices along the whole process. The investigations revealed: the current productive paradigm based on the generalized use of reconstituted wood (mainly medium density fiberboard - MDF, and medium density particleboard - MDP); the criteria for product differentiation according to social strata and the interaction between the agents involved in the productive process. There was also a concern in locating historically these recent changes undergone in the branch.

Móvel popular: como falar de design com a nova classe média / Popular furnishings: how to talk about design to the new middle class

Gustavo Orlando Fudaba Curcio 22 April 2015 (has links)
The furniture design and the connections between users and the spaces of Brazilian popular housing are the focus of this investigation. It is the focus of this analysis the ability of architects and designers for the choice, distribution and articulation of objects in large-scale produced housing environment in Brazil. The social group targeted by this search is the New Brazilian Middle Class, that has been rising since the beginning of the economic stability of the country in the mid-1990. After democratization and the effective increase of consumption with the Real Plan and inclusion policies promoted by successive mandates of the Partidos dos Trabalhados at the federal level, the Brazilian social pyramid has turned out, with the emergence of this new class. Given the impossibility of hiring an architect or interior designer services, either for lack of capital, whether for cultural reasons, the New Middle Class, largest consumer of the country, ultimately choose and buy objects and household furniture without the help of a professional. This empirical selection process results in ineffective arrangements that hinder the movement through the rooms and end up harming the quality of life of these families. This study analyzed the process of designing, editing and broadcasting a pioneer strategy of popular decorating magazine called Minha Casa, launched in 2010 by Editora Abril and edited by the author of this research together with a team of journalists, architects and designers. Apartments and houses of the federal program for the production of houses Minha Casa, Minha Vida, were used as templates. The communication, the language editing, the strategy for the production of content on decorating, renovating and building for the New Middle Class and their effects take part of the results of this research.

Vanished comforts : locating roles of domestic furnishings in Scotland, 1500-1650

Pearce, Michael January 2016 (has links)
Household inventories record objects that can be compared with surviving artefacts contributing to the study of material culture and social history. However, this thesis shows how heterogeneous inventories found in early modern Scottish sources resist quantification and aggregation. Instead, qualitative use of inventory evidence is advocated. Inventories can contribute information on the locations of activities in the home. These activities may be preferred to the object as evidence of historical change and as units of international comparison. Furnishing a house was cultural activity, and a construction of culture. In this study, objects are regarded as participants in cultural activities, strategies, and the construction of values. Sixteenth-century inventories are often impersonal and tend to show similarities in content, encouraging mechanistic interpretations of domestic life. The seventeenth century saw a proliferation of household equipment and furnishing for elites throughout Europe due to changes in production and consumerism. Some of this new furnishing was bought in London, some in France. While national difference was apparently maintained in architecture, new furnishings may have effaced distinctions within elite rooms. Scottish and English culture was merged by aristocratic intermarriage. This new culture is seen in the inventories of Mary, dowager Countess of Home. She maintained houses in England and Scotland. Some of her furnishings represented the style of an inner circle at court. Her inventories are also significant because they detailed equipment for a range of activities. She personally prepared medicines and sweetmeats, and had a number of scientific instruments. Pursuits reconstructed from the detail of later inventories can illuminate other domestic situations where clues are more subtle or absent. The level of autonomy Lady Home and her daughters exercised over their homes is a reminder of the agency exercised by women over furnishings, gardens, architecture, and estate policy.

Dimension of Cognition and Perception of Aesthetics on Needs of Living Room furnishing: Cluster Analysis of College Students

Chen, Li-Fan 26 August 2008 (has links)
People¡¦s individual personality and aesthetics tastes regarding living milieu can be examined and understood through their preferences on designs of living-room furnishing. The current research investigated college students¡¦ needs and cognition about living-room furnishing, sifted out various factors for living-room functionality demands, and understood cluster analysis among the groups derived from the factors. Additionally, the current study analyzed the relationships between functionality demands and furnishings of living-room, as well as the cognition situation of the students in the different groups regarding designs of living room. Forty-five (45) students of the National Sun Yat-San University were recruited as participants in the quasi-experiment for similarity of living room designs. In addition, one hundred and fifty (150) were collected for the questionnaire of living room needs and preferences. The methods for the data analysis in the current research included factor analysis, cluster analysis, MDS, and association and preference analysis. The major findings are listed as the followings. 1. The people¡¦s needs of living room functionality have three factors: family gathering, aesthetic taste, and sociableness. 2. The higher education level, the more demanding on the functions of ¡§family gathering and aesthetic taste¡¨. The higher monthly living budget, the more inclining for the function of ¡§sociableness¡¨. 3. Each group has different cognition dimensions and preference patterns about living designs.

The medieval art and architecture of Scottish collegiate churches

Swarbrick, Elizabeth Joy January 2017 (has links)
Collegiate churches were founded for two essential aims: the augmentation of divine worship, and the salvation of souls. This thesis brings to light just how important material and aesthetic enrichments were in regards to these functions. The vast majority of collegiate churches in Scotland were substantially augmented around the time of their foundation. Patrons undertook significant building programmes and provided a variety of furnishings and ornaments to facilitate and enrich the services their body of clergy performed. Precise statutes were laid down in order to ensure that clergy were skilled singers and organists. Many founders also made provision for their burial within their collegiate churches so that they could garner the maximum spiritual benefit from the organisations that they had founded. To the author's knowledge, this is the first in-depth account of the art and architecture of Scottish medieval colleges. This thesis looks closely at the architecture, furnishings, rituals, music, imagery, and commemorative functions of the forty-nine collegiate churches founded in Scotland. A close concentration on this institutional form has meant that buildings, artworks, and practices which have hitherto not received significant scholarly attention have been carefully scrutinised. Furthermore, by looking at so many aspects of collegiate churches, the present study enriches an understanding of these institutions by providing a more holistic picture of their functions and significance. Ultimately this thesis examines why physical and aesthetic enrichment went hand in hand with the founding of a college, and what role this material culture had in regards to how collegiate churches functioned.

Atmosfären i biblioteksrummet : Från boktempel till kulturhus

Nordling, David January 2023 (has links)
This study aims to look at how atmospheres impact library rooms at the public library of Umeå and the public library of Östersund. The theoretical framework is based on Tuan’s theory of ”Space” and ”Place” as well as earlier research on atmosphere in library environments. The empirical material is a selection of observations and surveys made at the two libraries, in the facts department and the daily newspapers room. The method that is used is autoetnographical analysis made with thick description.  This study argues that atmospheres can change rapidly in different library rooms at different times, which impacts the library user in many ways. This purpose is achieved by using five atmospheric themes; light, sound, architecture, furnishings and human impact. The result indicates that library users were impacted by these five atmospheric themes albeit in different ways, depending on the room, the time and the subjective experience of the library user. This knowledge is useful for future library operations, due to the fact that atmosphere impacts the experience of a public library. The study articulates that The International Federation of Library Associations (IFLA) should include the importance of atmosphere in the IFLA manifesto.

ANÁLISE ERGONÔMICA DAS CONDIÇÕES DE TRABALHO DOS TÉCNICOS ADMINISTRATIVOS DA REITORIA DA UNIVERSIDADE FEDERAL DE SANTA MARIA-UFSM-RS / ERGONOMIC ANALYSIS OF WORKING CONDITIONS OF ADMINISTRATIVE TECHNICIANS IN THE RECTORY OF FEDERAL UNIVERSITY OF SANTA MARIA - UFSM- RS

Cassol, Juarez Iensen 31 March 2011 (has links)
The occurrence of musculoskeletal pain symptoms has increased morbidity statistics in large companies. The aim of the present study is was to identify the relationship between work conditions and the occurrence of symptoms of musculoskeletal disorders in administrative technicians who work in the rectory of a UFSM-RS. This research is about a descriptive study, of quantitative nature. The population consisted of 216 professionals in the rectory of a federal university. Data was collected through a survey instrument the person with al and functional data, followed by questions containing the checklist to analyze the conditions of the workplace to the computer developed by Hudson Couto et al and; the adapted Nordic Musculoskeletal Questionnaire. The data were analyzed with the help of SPSS software to perform statistical tests. The application of Couto Checklist considered the chair, desk, and video monitors with ergonomic good condition; support for the keyboard in a bad condition; the footrest showed poor ergonomic conditions. The test application of Qui-square and Fisher s Exact Test indicated the presence of significant pain in the neck, spine, shoulder, thoracic spine, wrist / hand and leg. The inadequacies presented by chairs, video monitors and tables make the presence of symptoms of pain / discomfort more significant. Regarding posture, the results were significant for the variables that have related inadequacies of the table on: height, mobile, distance eye / screen / keyboard, arm position and the wrists support. Pain in the neck, shoulders, chest and wrists / hands registered a higher incidence of pain generated by postural discomfort according to the servers of the rectory. With these results, the study provides evidence that furnishings and inadequate equipment on ergonomic criteria extend the symptoms of musculoskeletal disorders. Moreover, the postural maintenance for long periods while working with computer constitutes another factor that contributes to the occurrence of pain in workers.
