Bara ett spel till : Tre delstudier om pengaspel och spelberoende

Carlsén, Anton January 2018 (has links)

Regulace hazardních her provozovaných prostřednictvím internetu / The Regulation of Internet Gambling

Pavlíček, Josef January 2018 (has links)
The Regulation of Internet Gambling This master thesis deals with the regulation of gambling operated via Internet public network. The chosen topic reflects adoption of a new framework of gambling regulation represented in particular by Act No. 186/2016 Coll., on Gambling, as amended (hereinafter referred to as "the Gambling Act") and Act No. 187/2016 Coll., on Gambling Tax, as amended (hereinafter referred to as "the Gambling Tax Act"), which introduced to the Czech legal system a systematic regulation of operation of gambling via Internet public network. The author aims to analyze and evaluate the new framework of gambling regulation (including newly introduced system of gambling taxation). Considering that both the Gambling Act and the Gambling Tax Act have entered into force only on 1 January 2017 the author further aims to point out certain unclarities regarding interpretation of several legal provisions contained therein. Finally, the author further aims to propose possible amendments to the analyzed legal regulation. The master thesis is divided into four parts. The first part is focused on the reasons why the new framework of gambling regulation has been adopted and further deals with the lacks of the previous regulation from the perspective of law of the European Union. Gambling in British Columbia: a case study of Seaport centre

Booth, Robert D. 05 1900 (has links)
This thesis examines gambling in British Columbia and reviews the failed Seaport Centre casino proposal for downtown Vancouver. The third wave of gambling sweeping across North America started when the state of Nevada re-legalized casinos in 1931, and underwent a major boom with the introduction of the first state lottery this century in New Hampshire in 1964. Since this time, virtually every state and provincial government in North America has introduced some form of legalized gambling. This thesis examines the third wave of gambling, and the rise of the urban casino which began to emerge in the late 1980's and early 1990's. The rise of the urban casino provides policy makers significant urban planning considerations. First, a review is conducted of the literature on gambling, illustrating the new phenomenon in gambling - the urban casino. Second, an analysis and history of gambling in Canada and British Columbia is explored. Third, a case study on the Seaport Centre casino proposal for Vancouver's downtown waterfront is documented, illustrating the issues associated with urban casinos from a planning perspective. The thesis documents the history of gambling in North American society. The current gambling wave sweeping the continent has been described as the third wave of gambling. Driving the most recent wave of gambling has been governments revenue imperative, promotion of gambling interest from business and certain interest groups and consumers demand for gambling games. As casinos moved to the forefront of the gambling explosion, the rise of the urban casino provided complex urban planning considerations. The case study on the Seaport Centre casino proposal for Vancouver provides a good framework for understanding the issues associated with urban casinos, many of which are local in nature. While the Seaport Centre proposal ultimately failed, the comprehensive analysis the City of Vancouver conducted serves as a useful guide for policy makers to understand the issues associated with an urban casino. / Applied Science, Faculty of / Community and Regional Planning (SCARP), School of / Graduate

An assessment of the gambling behavior of older adults in a senior center setting

Johnson, Debra Fay 01 January 2007 (has links)
Fifty-two individuals 60 years of age or older participated in this research study. This study is of significance because as opportunities to gamble are becoming more available and accessible, older adults are participating in gambling activities for leisure and recreational benefits. This phenomenon is of concern because older adults may be at risk for problems related to gambling that they may not be able to recover from. Furthermore, senior center directors and social workers need to know how to assess, evaluate and intervene with older adults who may have gambling problems or problems related to their gambling behavior.

The limit maintenance model : temptation and restraint in gambling

Maddern, Robyn Louise, University of Western Sydney, College of Arts, School of Psychology January 2003 (has links)
A literature review revealed the strong evidence that youth aged 16 to 25 years (World Health Organisation, 1989) in many jurisdictions world-wide report experiencing significant harmful impacts arising from gambling. The exact nature and prevalence of these impacts and the processes that underlie their origins remain obscure in part because of the common assumption that measures and criteria developed with adult populations may be applied to youth. Therefore, the approach adopted in this doctoral sequence of empirical studies was to focus on the core addictive construct of self-control (Heather, Miller and Greeley, 1991) using in the first instance a qualitative data analysis of 34 youth who gambled regularly at least once per week. The main cognitive themes from the interviews were used to develop a Limit Maintenance Model which outlined five qualitatively different approaches to the control of gambling. With certain aims in mind, three empirical studies provided a mixed-methods approach to identifying the cognitive, emotional and developmental barriers to self-control of gambling. In so doing, they emphasized the imperative for youth to embark on a learning process to ensure their self-regulatory skills are sufficiently developed to manage the temptation to gamble to excess, and instead, maintain self-controlled and safe gambling behaviours. / Doctor of Philosophy (PhD)
