The Socioeconomic Structures and Economic Development: The case of Taiwan

Ueng, Tsei-Hsia 15 August 2001 (has links)
During the past forty years and more, the economics in Taiwan have grown rapidly and staidly. It has been making the national income and the level of living life a huge upgrading there. As well as the income distribution has become more averagely and reasonably. That is why Taiwan is taken as a successful model for developing countries. The research objective of this study is to understand the relationship between the socioeconomic indicators and the dimensions of economic development. This study started with the related literatures and effected factors of economic development. Then collecting the statistic data and indicators that are from the Directorate-General of Budget, Accounting and Statistics, Executive Yuan, Department of Statistics, Ministry of Economic Affairs and Ministry of the Interior to construct the dimensions of economic development and its effected factors. The following work is using Factor Analysis to combine these socioeconomic indicators and form them to four main dimensions that including the Condition of Industrialization, Investment and Consumption, the Condition of Employment, Trading and Saving. Afterwards using the Multiple Linear Regression to find out the influence of these four socioeconomic dimensions against each dimension of economic development. Finally using the Canonical Correlation Analysis to find out the Canonical Weights and make the biggest correlation between the linear combination of socioeconomic dimensions and the linear combination of dimensions of economic development. The conclusions found in this study are: (1) Economic Growth Rate was effected mainly by the Trading and Saving, (2) Per Capita GNP was effected mainly by the Condition of Industrialization, (3) Ratio of Highest 5th¡¦s income to Lowest 5th¡¦s was effected mainly by the Condition of Employment and Trading and Saving. Therefore, this study suggests that to improve future economics based on ¡§knowledge¡¨ in order to increase international competitive ability and adapt the changes of industrial structure. Extending the national compulsory education and reforming the education system in order to improve the quality of manpower. In order to access the labor force soon, a policy encouraging the advanced courses on the job. Moreover, making use of resources in Taiwan to develop the tourist industries in order to increase employments.

Etude d'interface entre matrice polymère et renforts à base de carbone, à l'aide d'observations multiéchelles et multimodales en microscopie électronique / Interface Study between polymer matrix and carbon-based reinforcements, using the electron microscopy in multiscale and multimodal

Liu, Yu 10 November 2017 (has links)
This thesis aims to investigate the multiscale (nano-, micro-, and macro-scopic) behavior of the composites based on a fine investigation using the most modern techniques, to understand the interfaces and to quantify them. Two series of reinforcements on a micrometer scale, carbon fibers (CFs) and graphene-based materials, were studied here. To improve the interactions between these nanofillers and the surrounding polymer matrix, two major routes were used in this thesis: the oxidation of the fillers and the grafting of carbon nanotubes on their surface. The study itself was conducted on a microscopic scale on the interfacial strength between CFs and the epoxy matrix, with tensile tests carried out in-situ in the chamber of a double-column FIB-SEM microscope (scanning electron microscope coupled to a focused ion beam). The ion beam was used to mill a thin bond-shaped tensile specimen of composite containing both an epoxy and a CF part. Thetensile stress field was applied using the nanomanipulator and the test was observed both via the ionic and the electronic columns (with two different angles of view) to estimate the strain field, hence the interfacial strength when the failure is observed. A similar experiment was led on a composite with GNPs.Finally, the transmission electron microscopy (TEM) study of the interface region between the epoxy and the graphene-based nanofillers revealed the existence of an interphase and allowed to measure its thickness and give an indication of its nature. For this purpose, an EELS (electron energy-loss spectroscopy) analysis was carried out, making it possible to measure the density of the sample very locally (probe size of the order of a tenth of a nanometer) across or parallelly to an interface. A scenario on the chemical bonding modes between the two media as a function of the surface treatment used makes it possible to explain the nature of the observed interphases.

ENERGIA EÓLICA E SOLAR FOTOVOLTAICA NO CONTEXTO DE UNIVERSALIZAÇÃO E DIVERSIFICAÇÃO DA MATRIZ DE GERAÇÃO BRASILEIRA / WIND POWER AND SOLAR PHOTOVOLTAIC ENERGY IN THE CONTEXT OF UNIVERSALIZATION AND DIVERSIFICATION OF THE GENERATION MATRIX BRAZILIAN

Franciscatto, Anderson 11 March 2005 (has links)
This work presents an investigation of the most suitable scenarios for the generation of electrical energy from wind power and photovoltaic sources, focusing the changes that occur in the Brazilian electrical sector in the current scenario of economic and social development. The work was developed in a structure oriented to quality and productivity and instigates the use of these sources as a contribution to the supply of electrical energy, as well as the opportunity of the diversification to contribute to the sustainability and universal access by the whole population. As a means of information, the following elements were investigated: the increase of supply and demand of electrical energy compared to GNP (Gross National Product), the external dependance of electrical energy, the make-up of the matrix of electrical energy generation, universalization indices, human development indices and the quality of the supplied electrical energy. The results of this work show the following aspects: there is a relation between the GNP increase and the supply and demand of electrical energy; the production of electrical energy by the approached renewable sources has specific scenarios, with specific regulamentation and particular conditions of application; the indices of universalization can be easily reached making use of these sources; the wind power is a strategic investment for the country; the areas with the lowest human development index also suffer from the worst quality of supplied energy; low human development indices also have a relation with the no access to electrical energy; the regions with less development will be the last ones to be assisted by the universalization project 2004-2015.

Investigation of gold nanoparticle accumulation kinetics for effective cancer targeting

Park, Jaesook 09 November 2010 (has links)
Gold nanoparticles (GNP) have been widely used as optical imaging and photothermal therapy agents due to their biocompatibility, simplicity of conjugation chemistry, optical tunability and efficient light conversion to heat. A number of in vitro and in vivo studies have demonstrated that they can be used as effective thermal therapy and imaging contrast agents to treat and diagnose cancer. As clinical applications of GNPs for cancer imaging and therapy have gained interest, efforts for understanding their accumulation kinetics has become more important. Given the recent demonstration of intrinsic two-photon induced photoluminescence (TPIP) of gold nanoshells (GNSs) and gold nanorods (GNRs), TPIP imaging is an efficient tool for investigating the microscopic distribution of the GNPs at intra-organ level. The following work explores these GNPs’ physical and optical properties for effective use of GNPs in TPIP imaging and examines the feasibility of using intrinsic TPIP imaging to investigate GNP’s biodistribution in bulk tumors and thin tissue slices processed for standard histology. Our results showed that GNPs yield a strong TPIP signal, and we found that the direct luminescence-based contrast imaging of GNPs can image both GNPs and nuclei, cytoplasm or vasculature simultaneously. Also, we present the effect of GNP morphology on their distribution within organs. Collected images showed that GNPs had a heterogeneous distribution with higher accumulation at the tumor periphery. However, GNRs had deeper penetration into tumor than GNRs due to their shape and size. In addition, GNPs were observed in unique patterns close to vasculature. Finally, we introduce single- and multiple-dose administrations of GNPs as a way of increasing GNP accumulation in tumor. Our results show that multiple dosing can increase GNP accumulation in tumor 1.6 to 2 times more than single dosing. Histological analysis also demonstrated that there were no signs of acute toxicity in tumor, liver and spleen excised from the mice receiving 1 injection, 5 injections of GNPs and trehalose injection. / text
