The Strategy of Economic Development in a Metropolitan Tourist Gateway¡ÐA Case Study of Kaohsiung City

Hu, Yu-ming 10 February 2008 (has links)
The tourism industry is growing fast in the recent years. Every place is looking up on tourism and expect it to bring benefits for local developments; and the metropolitan areas are not exceptions. This research focus on the strategy of developing tourism in the metro-area. Although the metropolitan -area may not have significant amount of nature attractions, it has the advantage of being the ¡§gate¡¨ of all sorts of transportations. People have to pass through the metropolitan area in order to arrive their destination. Thus, the strategy of how to use this advantage and cooperate with the surrounding areas is essential. In this research, we call the above described metropolitan area the ¡§Metropolitan Tourist Gateway.¡¨ Also, we use the term ¡§Metropolitan Tourist Gateway Economy¡¨ to express the total product of the metropolitan tourism. The researcher uses TOWS matrix and three successful cases as the foundation of the tourist gateway strategies of Kaohsiung city; then use Delphi to generalize strategies from experts¡¦ opinions. In the end, the author concludes this research into six aspects and fourteen recommendations.

Design and Implementation of a 3PCC Application System over an Embedded SIP/VoIP Gateway

Huang, Che-Ling 24 July 2008 (has links)
eBay chief executive, Meg Whitman, at a press conference expressed to the investors that ¡§communications plays a key role in e-commerce and society. This makes Skype become the most suitable cooperator with eBay.¡¨ When integrating with Skype, eBay makes buyers and sellers communicate with each other through VoIP. This removes the biggest obstacle between buyers and sellers and achieves an ¡§unparalleled e-commerce and communications engine.¡¨ ¡§eBay with Skype¡¨ is the best example of 3PCC with e-commerce. 3PCC is a model that allows an entity (which is called controller) to manage and set up a communication between two or more other parties. It has already existed in the PSTN for a long time. Although there are many applications designed for SIP, they are not 3PCC with e-commerce model. Therefore, we attempt to design an application that integrating 3PCC with e-commerce. In this paper, we not only introduce how 3PCC is achieved but also express how REFER (a new method in SIP) can be used for replacing the traditional 3PCC mechanism in chapter 2. Chapter 3 will introduce the S/H development framework, the flows of SIP and the functions or libraries related to the Gateway. In chapter 4, we will first explain the design concept about our systems and then express how we implement the system. These include the website database structures, the Gateway programs and the packet analysis and verification. Finally, we will conclude this paper in Chapter 5. In addition, we will show the system and operation guide in appendix.

Implementation of a Generic Gateway as a Multipurpose Communication Node

Moshiri, Hesam January 2014 (has links)
Steering and navigation systems play an essential role in governing today’s leisure boats. CPAC Systems AB, a subsidiary of Volvo AB, satisfies a large part of the global market needs for this kind of products. CPAC Systems, among others, manufactures a well-known “steer-by-wire” (SBW) control system, the “Electronic Vessel Control” (a.k.a. EVC). The need to connect the EVC to systems and devices designed by other companies resulted in the development of “gateway” devices, which have a primary role in preserving the integrity of the overall system architecture. Whenever the SBW communicates with external products, gateways are used as electric isolators and protocol translators, in order to protect the integrity of the SBW function. Today, a number of different gateway devices are required to match the different interfaces to which the CPAC’s EVC system has to be connected. This thesis aims to tackle the huge diversification of the requirements and evaluates the possibility of designing a “single” product that satisfies most of the requirements. In addition to that, the work aims to design a flexible device that could be easily updated to comply with the potential needs of the incoming applications. This isbeneficial in terms of both technology and cost-efficiency. Existing gateway products are designed to fulfill the assigned tasks or just to do a specific protocol conversion and apart from this significant difference with a generic gateway, they have some limitations concerning environmental conditions and prospective upgrades. Therefore designing, testing and implementation of one multifunctional gateway to be applicable as a multipurpose communication node to cover several functionalities, would be beneficial. Several challenges arose in designing the generic gateway device, such as: hardware design with a limited number of connection I/Os (solution is limited to 20 I/Os, whereas current gateway products require as many as 35 I/Os), robustness, final cost and power consumption. The contribution of the thesis was to analyse current gateway products, to design the hardware (Schematic and PCB), to implement the software, to debug the operation, to verify of the designed hardware to ensure the operation of each part. For gathering test results and investigation of communication or instruction signals, industrial equipment like digital oscilloscope and CAN analyser have been used to prove the operation of the device which are demonstrated in the “design tests” part. In addition, robustness of the gateway has been tested against several industrial test parameters, such as temperature variations, isolation, power supply robustness and typical power consumption. The results of these tests are iscussed in the “robustness tests” part. By fulfilling all of these steps and collaboration with the company team, satisfactory results have been achieved.

Modeling and Detection of Content and Packet Flow Anomalies at Enterprise Network Gateway

Lin, Sheng-Ya 02 October 2013 (has links)
This dissertation investigates modeling techniques and computing algorithms for detection of anomalous contents and traffic flows of ingress Internet traffic at an enterprise network gateway. Anomalous contents refer to a large volume of ingress packets whose contents are not wanted by enterprise users, such as unsolicited electronic messages (UNE). UNE are often sent by Botnet farms for network resource exploitation, information stealing, and they incur high costs in bandwidth waste. Many products have been designed to block UNE, but most of them rely on signature database(s) for matching, and they cannot recognize unknown attacks. To address this limitation, in this dissertation I propose a Progressive E-Message Classifier (PEC) to timely classify message patterns that are commonly associated with UNE. On the basis of a scoring and aging engine, a real-time scoreboard keeps track of detected feature instances of the detection features until they are considered either as UNE or normal messages. A mathematical model has been designed to precisely depict system behaviors and then set detection parameters. The PEC performance is widely studied using different parameters based on several experiments. The objective of anomalous traffic flow detection is to detect selfish Transmission Control Protocol, TCP, flows which do not conform to one of the handful of congestion control protocols in adjusting their packet transmission rates in the face of network congestion. Given that none of the operational parameters in congestion control are carried in the transmitted packets, a gateway can only use packet arrival times to recover states of end to end congestion control rules, if any. We develop new techniques to estimate round trip time (RTT) using EWMA Lomb-Scargle periodogram, detect change of congestion windows by the CUSUM algorithm, and then finally predict detected congestion flow states using a prioritized decision chain. A high level finite state machine (FSM) takes the predictions as inputs to determine if a TCP flow follows a particular congestion control protocol. Multiple experiments show promising outcomes of classifying flows of different protocols based on the ratio of the aberrant transition count to normal transition count generated by FSM.

This process involves the study of the characteristics of these transducers, the development of protocols and mechanisms for data transmission, the creation of methods of analysis and information management, the creation of interfaces, etc. For this to be possible, it is necessary to provide means which provide interoperability between appliances and control applications. This paper proposes a system based gateway services for monitoring and control of home appliances in a network of wireless communication. The proposed gateway provides an abstraction layer between applications and the underlying network infrastructure and provides services specially designed to meet the needs of specific applications. The gateway provides a standard interface to access the functionality of the appliance, which provides a high degree of flexibility and interoperability system. The design of the interface provided by the gateway was inspired in the area of Web services and related technologies used to the area, as the style of software architecture REST, considered standard ubiquitous on the Web By hiding details of setting up and adapting the network of developers, gateway minimizes the efforts of developing applications for home automation.

Gustavo Scalco Isquierdo 31 October 2001 (has links)

Příprava a exprese izoforem proteinu p53 pomocí GATEWAY expresního systému / Preparation and expression of p53 protein isoforms using the GATEWAY expression system

Wikarská, Monika January 2019 (has links)
The TP53 gene can express protein p53 and 11 another isoform proteins N- and/or C-terminally truncated by using two promoters and alternative splicing. The p53 isoforms are found in both healthy and tumorous tissues, and are intensively studied in relation to cancer diagnosis, prognosis and treatment. In this work, the p53 isoforms were subcloned into expression vectors by LR reaction adapted from Gateway cloning system. The expression vectors were designed for protein production by bacteria E. coli strain BL-21. The constructs containing p53 isoforms were encoded together with two fusion proteins, glutathione-S-transferase and polyhistidine tag under the control of the same promotor for the affinity chromatography protein isolation. All the clones underwent Sanger sequencing for verification after homologous recombination. Sequencing confirmed the accuracy of the subcloned isoforms p53, 133p53, 160p53, p53 and 160p53 into an expression vector pDEST15-N6xHis-GST-GW-DEST. Protein 160p53 was expressed in BL-21 and isolated using both HIS and GST tag interacion. Isolation using HIS tag yielded in a higher protein concentration then the isolation mediated by the interaction of the glutathione-S-transferase.

Nicotine-enhanced sign tracking results in greater cocaine demand in rats using a behavior economic analysis approach.

Majors, Chloe T, Harryman, Dustin C, Smith, Amanda L, Day, Taylor C, Pham, Merlyn, Kosky, Madison M, Stillwell, Emily, Palmatier, Matthew 12 April 2019 (has links)
Rationale. Nicotine is often considered a ‘gateway’ drug because people typically experiment with tobacco before illicit drugs such as cocaine and amphetamine. We have shown that nicotine increases approach to reward-associated stimuli, this is referred to as ‘sign-tracking’, and that this effect persists after nicotine is discontinued. Individuals who are high in sign-tracking also show increased cocaine self-administration. Objectives. The goal of this experiment was to determine whether nicotine enhanced sign tracking could result in greater cocaine self-administration. Method. Rats were randomly assigned to one of 2 groups (NIC or SAL), and injected with their assigned solution (0.4 mg/kg base or placebo, respectively) 15 min before conditioning sessions. During conditioning sessions, a lever/light stimulus was inserted into the chamber for 15 s and immediately followed by sucrose delivery. Approach to the sucrose receptacle was recorded by monitoring head entries and defined as goal tracking. Contact with the lever was recorded and defined as ‘sign-tracking’. After 29 conditioning sessions, the rats were instrumented for cocaine self-administration and were shaped to respond for cocaine on the same lever that served as the CS. After 10 days of acquisition of cocaine self-administration (0.16 mg/inf), demand for cocaine was tested over 6 days using a within session procedure that increased cocaine price every 10 min. Results. We showed increased sign-tracking, but not goal tracking in the NIC group relative to the SAL group. The NIC group also showed increased demand for cocaine during the price manipulation, but the essential value of cocaine did not differ, relative to the SAL group. Conclusion. Our results support a gateway interpretation of substance use – when both the gateway drug (nicotine) and drug-associated rewards (the lever/light) occur together, they can promote future self-administration of illicit drugs such as cocaine.

Gateways and Gatekeepers: Walking Through International Relations

Montsion, Jean Michel 06 1900 (has links)
<p> This research project is based on the increasing importance states like Canada and Singapore give to their gateway initiatives, marketing cities like Singapore and Vancouver, as bridges between the East - mainly understood as the People's Republic of China - and the West. I am interested in the everyday life changes developing in Singapore and Vancouver as a result of these gateway initiatives in the business and education sectors, notably when it comes to catering to international students and young professionals.</p> <p> In trying to understand how gateways between East and West are experienced in everyday life, I argue that these initiatives take meaning through the everyday actions of individuals and community associations embodying these gateways. More specifically, I am interested in the actions of what I call gatekeepers: Chinese community associations well established in Singapore and Vancouver that have to adapt, influence and appropriate these gateway initiatives.</p> <p> It is my contention that both gateway projects in Singapore and Vancouver, Canada are based on neo-liberal assumptions with respect to profiting economically from a specific international context in which the economic rise of China is marketed to the West. The stories of community associations and individuals are giving to these projects specific nuances and goals that reflect both broader trends in the international political economy, such as the use of international education to migrate to Western countries, and smaller perspectives, such as transnational survival strategies of families. </p> <p> In this dissertation, I examine more thoroughly the structural limitations neo-liberal assumptions of these gateway projects create on: who is seen as a desirable migrant for/at the gateway, how community associations ought to adapt to stay relevant within these gateways and how exclusions are created along identity lines and privilege assumed within a neo-liberal framework.</p> / Thesis / Doctor of Philosophy (PhD)
