The research compares two different generations of banking employees: Banking old - over 50 years old, coming from the center-west of São Paulo, retired or dismissed, without a college degree - and the young bank - less than 30 years old born in urban areas, most college graduates. The two families were chosen because they represent two different contexts of the capitalist mode of production, therefore, two different contexts of Banco, which allows to investigate the changes that have happened in the world of work over the last thirty years, in addition to increasing the number of workers diseased banking has changed the way of being of the worker to meet the new demands of capital. Start from two assumptions: that there is a causal link between the disease and these workers a generation gap within the bank; this conflict is fueled by bank managers who invest in it through the technique of domination defined as bullying. Propose a different way of seeing the old and the young bank, changing the way of understanding the categories: flexible and rigid; qualified and non-qualified.

Generations at Work: A Phronetic Approach to Aged and Generational Scholarship

January 2016 (has links)
abstract: Scholarship and the popular press alike assert that, within the workplace and the world, there are distinct generational groups who are hallmarked by fundamental differences. Generational scholarship, undergirded by the priori assumption that generational differences must be managed, has become a well traversed field despite very little empirical evidence to substantiate the claims made about the attitudes, values, and beliefs of these purported generational cohorts. Scholars debate the veracity of generational characteristics, but few have taken critical approaches and noted the absence of theory and meta-discourse in the field. All the while, the over-simplified stereotypes are perpetuatued and employed in making fundamental decisions about the lives and work of the old and the young. In this dissertation, I present a grounded qualitative and phronetic study that offers a framework for a more nuanced approach to generational scholarship. Specifically, I employ qualitative methods and take a phronetic approach to examine young professionals’ (a) sensemaking of generational constructs and (b) identification/disidentification with generational archetypes. This dissertation reveals the ways in which participants made sense of popular generational archetypes as stereotypes or generalizations that exist in broad contexts of media and culture but are unconsidered in the workplace. Further, in the context of work, participants demonstrated very limited identification or disidentification with popular generational archetypes. Despite this, participants created and enacted generational differences in their workplaces based on age and tenure in the industry through the development of emergent archetypes. Methodologically, this dissertation demonstrates the utility of more emic approaches to generational scholarship and evidences the need for situated and needs based approaches. Theoretically, this dissertation demonstrates the utility of sensemaking and identification in generational scholarship. Moreover, the insights gleaned from these frameworks illustrate the need for the critical examinations in the field, and meta-discourse about our assumptions. / Dissertation/Thesis / Doctoral Dissertation Communication 2016

As part of the demographic transition, which includes substantial increase in longevity, the Brazilian population undergoes changes that reconfigure their age map and have repercussions on the society as a whole. Within this scenario of an aging population, the focus of this work is to understand the changes experienced by different generations as they reach the ages at which they are considered older people. The analysis focuses on three specific dimensions: the condition of the population on the domestic context, on labor market and on the relation to health conditions, focusing on the differences between men and women according to socioeconomic conditions. To this end, the theoretical approach used is the life course perspective. It proposes a conceptual framework that allows considering social change processes and demographic processes as interdependent. Thus, aging is understood as a process, by highlighting the intersection between change on individual biological time ¿ strongly demarcated by age ¿ with changes in historical time (focusing on political, economic, demographic and social dimension) and cohort succession. The main hypothesis is that older population is a heterogeneous group, and that heterogeneity has increased since the last decades, which diversify the experience of transition to old age. Added to that theoretical discussion, empirical analyses are built stressing the comparison between different cohorts. For that propose is used data from the demographic censuses of 1970, 1980, 1991, 2000 and 2010 and entropy analyzes are performed with data from the National Household Sample Survey (PNAD) of 1998 and 2008. Results indicate the importance of historical context ¿ and, within this, public policies ¿ in the demarcation of different living conditions between different generations, which contributes to the differentiation of the experience of aging and increases the heterogeneity of the elderly population / Doutorado / Demografia / Doutor em Demografia

Tudo é novo sob o sol : modernidade e trocas literárias entre Rio de Janeiro Porto Alegre nas primeiras décadas da República / Everything is new under the sun : modernity and literary exchanges between Rio de Janeiro and Porto Alegre in early decades of the Republic

Meu objetivo fundamental foi explicar a organização de grupos de escritores, por meio do caso deste grupo em especial, apontando para as variadas razões que levam indivíduos ligados à produção literária a escolherem seus vínculos, mas também explicar a complexa relação entre gerações literárias distintas / Abstract: This thesis focuses on a group of writers born in Rio Grande do Sul in the late 19th century whose careers were mostly constructed in the city of Rio de Janeiro in the first decades of the 20th century. The group was known as group from Misericórdia Square as it was formed in the homonymous square in Porto Alegre. I attempted to understand how the group constituted its own aesthetics in relationships established with contemporaneous writers and their predecessors: in this sense, the notion of generation grew in explanatory importance in the analysis. My fundamental objective was not only to explain the organization of groups of writers by considering this group in particular and pointing out several reasons why individuals acting in the literary production choose their links, but also to explain the complex relationship between different literary generations / Doutorado / Historia Social / Doutora em História
