Educators' experiences in implementing the revised national curriculum statement in the Get Band

Maphalala, Mncedisi Christian January 2006 (has links)
Submitted to the Faculty of Education in fufilment of the requirements for the degree of Doctor of Education in the Department of Curriculum & Instructional Studies at the University of Zululand, 2006. / The present study examines educators' experiences in implementing the Revised National Curriculum Statement in the GET Band. The first aim of the study was to ascertain the nature of educators' experiences in implementing the Revised National Curriculum Statement. The second aim was to determine whether educators' biographical factors such as gender, age, teaching experience, qualification and rank have any influence on the nature of their experiences in implementing the Revised Curriculum Statement. The third aim was to ascertain the extent to which educators generally find implementing the Revised National Curriculum Statement to be stressful. The last aim was to determine whether educators' biographical factors (gender, age, teaching experience, qualification and rank) have any influence on the extent to which they generally find implementing the Revised National Curriculum Statement to be stressful. To this end, a questionnaire was administered to a randomly selected sample of three hundred and eight educators. The findings reveal that educators differ in terms of the nature of their experiences in implementing the Revised Curriculum Statement. A high percentage (61.04%) of educators reports a positive experience about implementing the Revised National Curriculum Statement. The findings also show that age, teaching experience and qualification have an influence on the nature of educators' experiences in implementing the Revised National Curriculum Statement. The findings further reveal that educators differ in the extent to which they generally find implementing the Revised National Curriculum Statement to be stressful. A relatively higher percentage (38.31%) report above average level of stress, 28.90% report below average level and 32.79% report an average level The last finding shows that educators' gender, age, teaching experience, qualification and rank have no influence on the extent to which educators generally find implementing the Revised National Curriculum Statement to be stressful. On the basis of the findings of this study, a model on curriculum implementation process was proposed and recommended.

Fraseologia do verbo get na língua inglesa: uma abordagem da Linguística de Corpus e da Gramática de Construções / Phraseology of the verb get in the English Language: a Corpus Linguistics and Construction Grammar approach

Rosa, Rodrigo Garcia 09 April 2014 (has links)
This research examines the uses of get in contexts where the verb is followed by nominal phrases and it aims at proposing a mapping of the constructions where this predicate may occur. The research adopts the methodological perspective of Corpus Linguistics (McENERY; HARDIE, 2012) for the selection and extraction of data of language in use from a corpus of American English (Corpus of Contemporary American English COCA), and the theoretical framework adopts the perspective of Cognitive Construction Grammar (GOLDBERG, 1995; 2006), for the analysis and categorization of the data in constructions. More specifically, the constructional mapping referred to has the objective to describe the linguistic behavior of get in two levels of analysis, namely: (1) In the constructional level, by highlighting the main syntactic, semantic and pragmatic characteristics of the grammatical contexts in which the verb occurs and; (2) In the lexical level, by emphasizing and discussing the main phraseologisms headed by get. The study corpus is composed of 9.210 utterances extracted from COCA and it contains get in all of its possible morphological forms, that is, the search run in the corpus made use of the lemmatized form of the verb so as to generate distinct instantiations of get (get, gets, getting, got, gotten). As for the collocates, the method of search and selection of the nominal complements prioritized the 50 most frequent nouns to the right of get, also in their lemmatized forms, in order to guarantee a considerable semantic variability amongst the elements with which the verb under analysis collocates. The conclusions at which this study arrived confirm the polysemous behavior and the syntactic versatility of get (ISRAEL, 2004), by outlining 13 constructional contexts in which the verb is productive. Nevertheless, the quantitative analysis of the data shows the preference of get for the transitive construction, context in which the licensed central meaning is that of obtention. As for the behavior of get in the lexical level, the study corpus highlighted 74 phraseological units headed by get

The Use of Mock Code Training in Improving Resuscitation Response

O'Brien, Maureen Anne 01 January 2015 (has links)
The American Heart Association's Get With the Guidelines (GWTG) has established measures for how quickly a resuscitation team is to respond in a cardiac arrest with performance of cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and defibrillation. Two of the core measures for GWTG require initiation of CPR within 1 minute of cardiac arrest and defibrillation within 2 minutes in at least 85% of cases. The problem of interest in this Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) project was that the facility had not been able to reach 85% on these 2 measures. The purpose of this project was to achieve nursing response times for CPR and defibrillation to meet the core measures. Using the logic model, the project leader implemented mock code training over an 8-week period on the medical-surgical units. The study design for this project was a nonexperimental, retrospective chart review. Compliance data were obtained from the American Heart Association's GWTG database for the facility before and after implementation of mock code training. The results included a review of 10 cardiac arrest cases that occurred after implementation of training. There was 100% compliance with initiation of first compression within 1 minute of cardiac arrest. However, of 2 cases that required defibrillation, only 1 received the shock within 2 minutes. Quantitative descriptive analysis used percentages and a runs chart to compare response times prior to training with response times after training. The chart showed improvement in the area of first compression in meeting the goal of 85% compliance. As a result, the facility will continue to implement mock code training on a routine basis in its effort to improve patient outcomes, including survival and quality of life.

Oliveira, Danielle Abrantes de 27 March 2013 (has links)
Made available in DSpace on 2015-05-08T14:47:38Z (GMT). No. of bitstreams: 1 arquivototal.pdf: 1655044 bytes, checksum: f491070500894af1c6401a475f36da42 (MD5) Previous issue date: 2013-03-27 / Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior - CAPES / The aging process refers the individual to many different confrontations that associated with HIV contagion, takes wider dimensions and awakens a different look for this population group, by believing that living the challenges in the struggle for life with AIDS, results in rich experiences, in that the human support superimposes the daily confrontation. In this direction, the present research had as objectives: know the history of people getting older with HIV/AIDS, members of a Non-Governmental Organization and identify the feelings and the facing strategies that permeate the relationships experienced by people who are getting older with HIV / AIDS. This is a study with qualitative approach, being Thematic Oral History as a methodological support. The research was conducted during the period from July to September 2012, through interviews with eight collaborators of the National Network of People Living and Living Together with HIV and AIDS (RNP+CG), located in Campina Grande. The analysis of the empirical material allowed the construction of two main themes: 1 - Getting old with HIV/AIDS and 2 - Feelings and the facing strategies in the relationship experienced by getting old with HIV/AIDS. In the first main theme, aging is considered with positive and negative aspects, while appointed as a natural consequence of human evolution at the same time it is configured as a synonym of disease, lack of beauty and invalidity. The second main theme depicts the feelings and the facing strategies, since the search for diagnosis to the discovery of seropositivity. Confrontations are related to financial difficulties, reactions caused by the presence of antiretroviral and opportunistic diseases associated with feelings of fear to reveal the diagnosis to partners, family and friends as a result of suffering from prejudice and discrimination, causing social isolation. In this aspect, the Non-Governmental Organizations play an essential role in combating AIDS, by assisting the patients to deal with the imposed challenges, promoting the increase of self-esteem and willpower to continue living. The study bought together different experiences of people getting older with HIV/AIDS and the Oral History allowed unveil certain facets of confrontations that each collaborator has experienced in the complexity and diversity that characterized the epidemic. In this direction, this investigation offers possibilities to health care professionals and other social segments to understand the various confrontations experienced by people getting older with HIV / AIDS and awaken to mobilizations to build, expand and strengthen the fight against the disease, especially for those who experience this dual context with wide and complex features that the disease imposes.

This project manifests a business idea raised by a group of UPC students. The knowledge learned throughout the career of each one has been exposed in the following Work. Firstly, we have identified the problem where the user sees himself in the need to stay at home after fear of citizen insecurity, where high crime rates have made people choose to stay at home or a private place to have a good time. For this reason, we create a product for people to enjoy a pleasant moment without exposing themselves. Our target audience is people between 18 and 60 years of age from the NSE A - B of zones 7 and 8 of the Lima city. For this reason, we founded Tantay, a chili sauce with fine herbs 100% natural, made with quality ingredients of Peruvian origin and under an artisanal process, being an accompaniment option for snacks or other foods. A combination of flavors and textures is what our sauce represents, thanks to the wide variety of national ingredients that will provide freshness and naturalness to the product. To achieve all of the aforementioned, we have developed an analysis where strategic plans will be developed that include the Marketing Plan, the Operational Plan, the Human Resources Plan, the Social Responsibility Plan and the Financial Plan in order to evaluate the company and carry out the project successfully. / Trabajo de investigación

Improving Nurses' Knowledge of Stroke

McDaniel, James Trone 01 January 2016 (has links)
Stroke is a devastating disease. Stroke care has advanced greatly in the past 20 years with innovations in radiologic imaging, development of tissue plasminogen activator (tPA), organized systems of care, telestroke, and best practice guidelines via Get with the Guidelines Stroke (GWTGS). However, stroke remains the 5th leading cause of death in the United States. To provide current and quality care for stroke patients, nurses need ongoing stroke education. Additionally, stroke centers must provide a sustainable stoke education program to their nurses to keep their knowledge current. Guided by Rosswurm and Larrabee's model, this quality improvement project addressed whether an educational program based on evidence in GWTGS could increase nursing knowledge of stroke. A convenience sample of 50 medical-surgical nurses from a stroke telemetry unit participated in this program. Nursing knowledge was assessed by using a student-developed tool based on the GWTGS best practice evidence to evaluate for increased knowledge regarding stroke and stroke management. Using simple descriptive statistics, the percent difference from pretest to posttest was calculated. The results revealed a 16.79% increase in nurses' knowledge. The practicum organization therefore adopted the program. Implications for nursing practice and social change include organizations adopting the educational program as a sustainable learning opportunity for nurses in regards to stroke care.
