Giovanni Papini iconoclasta e religioso: diferentes fases da recepção do escritor florentino no Brasil / Giovanni Papini the iconoclast and the religious: different stages of the Florentine writers reception in Brazil

Silva, Aline Fogaça dos Santos Reis e 05 December 2017 (has links)
The literary career of Giovanni Papini can be divided into two phases: the iconoclast and the catholic. The present research aims to test the reception of the Florentine writer in Brazil, through his works translated into Brazilian Portuguese and by the survey of notes, reviews, short stories and articles published in some of the major national newspapers. In the beginning, he is read and discussed, especially by modernist intellectuals, in the clash between Italian Futurism and Brazilian Modernism; later, through the translation approach, mainly by religious themed works. As the theoretical foundation of the analysis, concepts relating to translation studies are discussed, as literary polysystem, patronage, rewritten and gatekeeping, developed in the studies of Itamar Even-Zohar, André Lefevere and Susan Bassnett. Similarly, relations that are established between writer and readers are thought from the perspective of the theories of aesthetics of reception related to the History and Sociology of Literature, in the studies of Hans Robert Jauss and Regina Zilberman.

A different mimesis : the fantastic in Italy from the Scapigliati to the postmodern

Reza, Matthew January 2014 (has links)
This thesis investigates the literary fantastic in Italy from the late nineteenth century to the second half of the twentieth century. The purpose is to analyse the way in which the fantastic functions in a story—its ʻmechanicsʼ—and to see how the fantastic evolved structurally over the first century of its existence in Italy. This investigation is carried out by the development of a new theoretical methodology together with the close reading of a selection of texts from four key Italian authors of fantastic literature. The thesis is divided into six chapters. The first chapter is a historical overview of the emergence of the fantastic in Italy in the late nineteenth century up to the second half of the twentieth century; it examines the obstacles the fantastic has faced and some of the thematic and structural characteristics of texts which emerge. The second chapter is a literature review of the theoretical models used to analyse and understand the fantastic, followed by an outline of a new model, entitled Different Mimetics, which looks at the internal logic of the fantastic. In the following four chapters Different Mimetics is applied to the study of a selection of fantastic texts by four authors. Chapter three focuses on Ugo Tarchetti, and shows that his stories are defined by coexistence and coincidence in both historical and thematic terms. Chapter four demonstrates how Giovanni Papini reverses the mechanics one might expect, and how his stories are structured as internal narratives. Chapter five looks at how Dino Buzzatiʼs stories are characterised by instability and stretched narrative paradigms; and finally, chapter six looks at how Italo Calvinoʼs narratives focus on world creation and paradox and how they question the stability of narrative paradigms.

I. Giordani, uomo di lettere e di cultura, e l'ideale di un «cristianesimo integrale»: alcuni carteggi indediti / Igino Giordani: a man of letters and the ideal of an «integral Christianity». Parts of the unpublished correspondence

PAGLIARULO, CARLA 13 February 2013 (has links)
This dissertation aims at setting Igino Giordani within the broader framework of the catholic cultural environment between the two world wars. It focuses on his proposal of an «integral Christianity» as a solution to the recession which threatened the fundamental values and principles of the economy, politics and culture during the 1920's and 1930's. This is the reason why the relationships between Giordani and many of his colleagues and cultural catholic institutions have been studied in depth. The work starts with a biography, underlining how Giordani's youth has been affected by the war and the experience as a soldier, up to his peaceful death, in 1980. His life shows how the consistency of his actions with his faith made him an influent personality in his working environments, to the point that the beatification process has begun. The research is based on Giordani's writings and on the previous historiography, but the most important source is constituted by a large number of archive documents. Particularly, Giordani's private correspondence has been very useful in understanding how he acted in order to support the engagement of the catholic intellectuals during the dark fascist age and his endless activity in order to build a new humanism. The work also focuses on the relationships between Giordani and two members of the Italian catholic world of the time: Giovanni Papini and Piero Bargellini.
