Collaborative design (COLLDESIGN): A real-time interactive unified modeling language tool

This project extended COLLDESIGN, an interactive collaborative modeling tool that was developed by Mr. Hara Totapally. The initial version included a collaborative framework comprised of configurable client and server components. This project accomplished a complete implementation of the Class Diagram view. In addition, extending the framework, text messaging and audio conferencing features have been implemented to allow for real-time textual and audio communication between team members working on a particular project. VideoClient is the GUI of the application.

<p>Одрживи индустријски развој директно је повезан са стварањем повољних услова за спровођење иновативних активности. Главни изазов на пољу управљања иновацијама је избор и рангирање индикатора који омогућавају стварање иновација, како на нивоу државе / регије (макро нивоу), тако и на нивоу предузећа (микро нивоу).Oво истраживање је спроведено за оба нивоа одвојено. Рангирање индикатора на макро нивоу извршено је за појединачне државе чланице ЕУ и за ЕУ као јединствену регију За ту сврху примењена је метода статистичког учења. На микро нивоу, урађена је студија случаја за рангирање индикатора иновацијског потенцијала за сектор ММСП у Србији, коришћeњем методe структурираног упитника и методe вишекритеријумске анализе. Резултати истраживања пружају прилику да се укаже на значај појединих индикатора у процесу стварања иновације, како на макро тако и на микро нивоу.</p> / <p>Održivi industrijski razvoj direktno je povezan sa stvaranjem povoljnih uslova za sprovođenje inovativnih aktivnosti. Glavni izazov na polju upravljanja inovacijama je izbor i rangiranje indikatora koji omogućavaju stvaranje inovacija, kako na nivou države / regije (makro nivou), tako i na nivou preduzeća (mikro nivou).Ovo istraživanje je sprovedeno za oba nivoa odvojeno. Rangiranje indikatora na makro nivou izvršeno je za pojedinačne države članice EU i za EU kao jedinstvenu regiju Za tu svrhu primenjena je metoda statističkog učenja. Na mikro nivou, urađena je studija slučaja za rangiranje indikatora inovacijskog potencijala za sektor MMSP u Srbiji, korišćenjem metode strukturiranog upitnika i metode višekriterijumske analize. Rezultati istraživanja pružaju priliku da se ukaže na značaj pojedinih indikatora u procesu stvaranja inovacije, kako na makro tako i na mikro nivou.</p> / <p>Sustainable industrial development is directly related to the creation of favorable conditions for the implementation of innovative activities. The main challenge in the field of innovation management is the selection and ranking of indicators that enable the creation of innovation, both at the state/region level (macro level) and at the enterprise level (micro level). This research was conducted for both levels separately. The ranking of indicators at the macro level was done for individual member states of EU, and for the EU as a unique region. For this purpose, the method of statistical learning was applied. At the micro level, a case study for ranking the indicators of innovation potential was done for the MSME sector in Serbia, using the method of a structured questionnaire and the method of multi-criteria analysis. The results of the research provide an opportunity to see the importance of individual indicators in the process of creation of innovation, both at the macro and micro levels.</p>

[pt] Ao contar uma história, o narrador usa toda sua habilidade para entreter a audiência. Esta tarefa não define apenas o ato de contar uma história, mas também a capacidade de compreender as reações do público durante a narração da história. Não é muito difícil adaptar uma história para um único individuo baseando-se em suas preferências e escolhas anteriores, porém, a tarefa de escolher o que é melhor para um grupo torna-se bastante complicada. A seleção por votação de uma maioria pode não ser eficiente pois descarta alternativas que foram consideradas secundárias por alguns indivíduos, mas que funcionariam melhor para o grupo em questão. Desta forma, a seleção descuidada dos eventos em uma história poderia causar a ruptura do grupo, fazendo com que algumas pessoas desistam de continuar assistindo pois não foram agradadas. Esta tese propõe uma metodologia para criar histórias adaptadas para a audiência com base em traços de personalidade e preferências de cada indivíduo. Como uma audiência pode ser composta de indivíduos com preferências semelhantes ou mistas, é necessário considerar uma solução de meio-termo com base nas opções individuais. Além disso, os indivíduos podem ter algum tipo de relação com os outros que influenciam suas decisões. O modelo proposto aborda todas as etapas da missão de agradar ao público. Deve inferir quais são as preferências, calcular a recompensa das cenas para todos os indivíduos, estimar as escolhas de forma independente e em grupo, e permitir sistemas de Storytelling Interativos encontrar a história que maximiza a recompensa esperada da audiência. O modelo proposto pode ser facilmente estendido a outras áreas que envolvem usuários interagindo com ambientes digitais. / [en] To tell a story, the storyteller uses all his/her skills to entertain an audience. This task not only relies on the act of telling a story, but also on the ability to understand reactions of the audience during the telling of the story. It is not so difficult to adapt a story for a single individual based on his/her preferences and previous choices. However, the task of choosing what is best for a group becomes quite complicated. The selection by majority voting cannot be effective because it can discard alternatives that are secondary for some individuals, but that would work better for the group in question. Thus, the careless selection of events in a story could cause audience splitting, causing some people to give up keep watching because they were not pleased. This thesis proposes a new methodology to create tailored stories for an audience based on personality traits and preferences of each individual. As an audience may be composed of individuals with similar or mixed preferences, it is necessary to consider a middle ground solution based on the individual options. In addition, individuals may have some kind of relationship with others who influence their decisions. The proposed model addresses all steps in the quest to please the audience. It infers what the preferences are, computes the scenes reward for all individuals, estimates their choices independently and in group, and allows Interactive Storytelling systems to find the story that maximizes the expected audience reward. The proposed model can easily be extended to other areas that involve users interacting with digital environments.

Nurses' experiences of the practice of the PeerSpirit Circle model from a Gadamerian philosophical hermeneutic perspective

Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis (IUPUI) / The PeerSpirit Circle is a non-hierarchical, intentional, and relationship-centered practice of collaboration. There is a lack of scientific knowledge about the phenomenon of the PeerSpirit Circle in nursing or its potential impact on nursing practice, education, research, and the evolution of the profession and health care. The health care milieu is often entrenched in ways of being that do not support sustained change. For vitality to prosper and creativity to abound, paradigmatic shifts and new models of practice that emphasize collaboration are being called for. The purpose and aims of this phenomenological research study are to explore and give voice to the experiences of nurses who have participated in the PeerSpirit Circle model of practice with other nurses. The study includes interviews from five registered nurses from Canada and the United States conducted from 2009–2010 and interpreted from a Gadamerian philosophical hermeneutic perspective. The research findings reveal three themes: (1) experiencing the Circle container” where participants begin to understand the value of intentional preparation of the interpersonal space for safe human interaction and stronger collaboration—there are experiences of gathering, protecting, appreciating ritual, and sharing stories; (2) Experiencing space where protected space seems to be the essential element to inspire the presencing of participants with self and other, which in turn engenders genuine dialogue, a sense of sacred space, and freedom to be authentic; and (3) Experiencing our humanity, an unfolding theme, where participants experience reconnection with and understanding of their deeper humanity, stronger congruence with their core values, deeper experiences of caring and courage, personal and professional growth, and a profound appreciation for belonging to a lineage of nurses. The findings inspire a deeper understanding of barriers to congruence between values and action in nursing and nurses’ need to acknowledge, honor, support, and protect each other’s vulnerability. The implications for nursing practice, education, and research show that the PeerSpirit Circle model is a beneficial for use in all settings.

A study was conducted to explore the impact on change which a process of participatory research has on capacity building for the general assistants within the Northern Province in terms of the mission statement of the Office on the Status of Women between July 1997 and September 1998. The mission of the office is as follows: " ... to establish mechanisms and procedures that will move the province towards gender equality, thereby empowering women to have equal access to opportunities and resources which will enhance their quality of life". The target group for Office on the Status of Women is women within the government service irrespective of race and socio-political status. These general assistants were said to be the "left behind" group when issues affecting women like National and International Women's Days are celebrated. Tsoga O Itirele : a reflection on a participatory action research process

The report is about participatory action research with caregivers at the 'Tsoga 0 ltirele" centre for the mentally disabled. It was a process where the caregivers were involved in a series of action, plan and reflection in researching their situation. The facilitation process assisted the caregivers to look at their problems at the centre and improve service delivery in caring for the mentally disabled children. Several meetings were held where action, plan and reflection took place. Caregivers decided on their own when to meet and discuss issues that concerned them. They planned what needed to be dealt with and took collective action to address these needs. The facilitation process enabled caregivers to research their own problems, embrace errors experienced and recognise progress. People Centred Approach, Community Development and Participatory Action Research complemented one another in capacitating caregivers.
