O presente estudo, uma investigação de natureza qualitativa do tipo descritiva, possui o tema das políticas públicas de lazer para os idosos na Região do Vale do Taquari. Trata-se de uma pesquisa realizada nos 37 municípios desta região. Procuramos compreender, descrever e analisar as políticas, projetos e atividades de lazer desenvolvidos para os idosos. A pesquisa de campo teve duração de 10 meses. No primeiro momento realizamos contato com as coordenadoras municipais dos grupos de convivência para idosos. Neste, realizamos entrevistas semi-estruturadas e coletamos documentos oficiais. Num segundo momento, participamos de 8 bailes na região. Realizamos entrevistas semi-estruturadas com coordenadores dos bailes, com idosos participantes e registrando observações em diário de campo. A triangulação das informações obtidas pelas entrevistas, documentos, diário de campo e referencial teórico, permitiram analisar, categorizar e descrever os grupos de convivência e bailes. Sendo estes as principais atividades de lazer para os idosos desta região. Destacamos que essas atividades são necessidades que se criaram, e que precisam ser desenvolvidas através de políticas públicas. O planejamento e a definição de diretrizes municipais são fundamentais para sua continuidade. / The present study, an inquiry of qualitative nature of the descriptive type has the subject of the public politics of leisure for elders in the Region of the Vale do Taquari. This research was carried through in the 37 cities of this region. We tried to understand, to describe and to analyze the politics, projects and developed activities of leisure for the elders. The field research had the duration of 10 months. At the first time, we contacted with the elders groups's coordinators. Then, we carried through half-structuralized interviews and collected the official documents. Secondly, we have been in eigth elder's balls in the region. We made interviews half-structuralized with coordinators of the balls, participants and registered daily field. The triangulation of the information obtained from the interviews, documents, field research and theoretic references, had allowed to analyze, to categorize and to describe the groups of elders and balls. These kind of activities are the main source of leisure for the elders in this region. We detach that these activities are really needed, and that they may be developed through public policies. The planning and the definition of municipal lines of direction are basic for its continuity.
