A Study on A36 Steel Pipe On-Line Thickness Measurement Subjected to High-Temperature by Using PZT

Chen, Chih-chuan 16 July 2009 (has links)
The pipeline is playing an important role in industry nowadays. However, the inner wall of pipeline may suffer corrosion after a long service time. When excessive corrosion occurred, not only the transported material inside the pipe will let out but also serious accident may be induced. So, it¡¦s necessary to monitor pipeline thickness regularly. Conventionally, since most piping systems were subjected to high-temperature working environments, hence if an operator intend to examine the thickness of a pipeline, the whole piping system need to be shutdown and resulted in financial losses. Therefore, to develop on-line thickness measurement technique for pipelines subjected to high-temperature working environment is indispensable. ¡@¡@In this study, low-cost PZT sensors (Pb(ZrxTi1-x)O3), which can sustain high-temperature working environment, were used to execute the thickness measurements. A single PZT, which was bonded on the surface of a pipe as an actuator and a receiver simultaneously. Then, by utilizing the GUI(Graphic User Interface) system, which was designed in this study, the echo signal can be analyzed and the thickness of the pipe can be determined on-line and automatically. It is noted that the wave speed changed as environmental temperature increased. So, in this study, by using A36 steel plates and steel tubes as a specimens, a modified temperature versus wave velocity curve was proposed.. The experimental results showed that non-conservative thickness measurements will be obtained if modified wave speed was not adopted when working temperature increased. keywords¡GThickness measurement, PZT sensor, GUI system, Modified wave velocity curve.

3DPOPS : From carbohydrate sequence to 3D structure

Nordström, Rickard January 2002 (has links)
<p>In this project a web-based system called 3DPOPS have been designed, developed and implemented. The system creates initial 3D structures of oligosaccharides according to user input data and is intended to be integrated with an automatized 3D prediction system for saccharides. The web interface uses a novel approach with a dynamically updated graphical representation of the input carbohydrate. The interface is embedded in a web page as a Java applet. Both expert and novice users needs are met by informative messages, a familiar concept and a dynamically updated graphical user interface in which only valid input can be created.</p><p>A set of test sequences was collected from the CarbBank database. An initial structure to each sequence could be created. All contained the information necessary to serve as starting points in a conformation search carried out by a 3D prediction system for carbohydrates.</p>

Mladenov, Dimitar January 2006 (has links)
<p>This project presents a model of monitoring GUI, built for human search and rescue system, part of RESCUER system. This system is an innovative system with main task decreasing the human involvement in human search and rescue or another type of dangerous missions. In this project we try to make functional and easy to use interface that provide the most necessary information on one screen, such as map of the investigated area, human presence, environment status and status of the most important sensors of the robocar. We also present two already developed interfaces solving similar to ours problem and compare our interface with them and also we present the way of building our GUI on Matlab environment. The final result is an interface, combining the advantages of the other two investigated GUIs and visualises the risk zones, different types of risks that can be expected in the investigated area.</p>

ANVÄNDNING AV KARAKTÄRSANIMATION SOM GUI : Och dess påverkan av immersion hos spelare / USING CHARACTER ANIMATION AS GUI : And its impact on immersion in players

Lundqvist Lakso, Robin January 2018 (has links)

A Power System Reliability Evaluation Technique and Education Tool for Wind Energy Integration

January 2012 (has links)
abstract: This thesis is focused on the study of wind energy integration and is divided into two segments. The first part of the thesis deals with developing a reliability evaluation technique for a wind integrated power system. A multiple-partial outage model is utilized to accurately calculate the wind generation availability. A methodology is presented to estimate the outage probability of wind generators while incorporating their reduced power output levels at low wind speeds. Subsequently, power system reliability is assessed by calculating the loss of load probability (LOLP) and the effect of wind integration on the overall system is analyzed. Actual generation and load data of the Texas power system in 2008 are used to construct a test case. To demonstrate the robustness of the method, relia-bility studies have been conducted for a fairly constant as well as for a largely varying wind generation profile. Further, the case of increased wind generation penetration level has been simulated and comments made about the usability of the proposed method to aid in power system planning in scenarios of future expansion of wind energy infrastructure. The second part of this thesis explains the development of a graphic user interface (GUI) to demonstrate the operation of a grid connected doubly fed induction generator (DFIG). The theory of DFIG and its back-to-back power converter is described. The GUI illustrates the power flow, behavior of the electrical circuit and the maximum power point tracking of the machine for a variable wind speed input provided by the user. The tool, although developed on MATLAB software platform, has been constructed to work as a standalone application on Windows operating system based computer and enables even the non-engineering students to access it. Results of both the segments of the thesis are discussed. Remarks are presented about the validity of the reliability technique and GUI interface for variable wind speed conditions. Improvements have been suggested to enable the use of the reliability technique for a more elaborate system. Recommendations have been made about expanding the features of the GUI tool and to use it to promote educational interest about renewable power engineering. / Dissertation/Thesis / M.S. Customisable game interfaces impact on game experience

Björklund, Benjamin, Nilsson, Simon Hjertson January 2008 (has links)
A graphical user interface (GUI) is the bridge between the software and the user. In video games the user interface must be easily understandable and apprehensive. In fact, if a user interface is poorly done it will often break the game and make the user choose another game. If a user has the ability to configure and change the look of the user interface, will it then result in improved game experience? That’s what we investigated in this thesis. To carry out the investigation we developed a fully customisable user interface to a game called “World of Warcraft”. We then compared the original “World of Warcraft” GUI with our own developed customisable GUI; this was conducted with a usability test with five participants. The result of the investigation showed that the participants in fact noticed an improvement in game experience and were intrigued to continue playing. With the customisable GUI the users felt that they could make more important abilities more accessible by either position them in a certain way or change the size of them.

A Concept of an Interactive Controlled Vertical Blind

Axelsson, Lenny January 2011 (has links)
One of the most common devices found worldwide in todays society, is the curtain in various designs. Different designs which requires different types of physical efforts to be used and adjusted to achieve the intended purpose. Due to lack of features in a regular vertical blind and its construction, it makes it hard to use and apply with normal behaviours of the human. Where the basic idea is based on a static design with a parallel relationship between the individual vertical blinds is the prototype based on individual movements of the blinds. A static relationship, which requires repeated adjustment through the day and the movement of the sun to achieve the desirable functionality. However, when the user gets interrupted and distracted for example at work repeatedly during a complete day, his or her performance and creativity at work will be reduced. In this paper I have chosen to focus on the interaction design of the vertical blind and how to improve the interaction relationship between it and the user. Also showing how it is possible to create solutions for a simple and common unit like a vertical blind, by means of interactive models, use cases, technical predictions and a proposal of a future GUI that makes it possible to implement the models in a prototype of an embedded system.
