Profesinio perdegimo sindromo paplitimo pasireiškimas turizmo sektoriuje, gidų profesijoje / Job burnout prevalence of the guide profession in tourism sector

Gruodytė, Iveta 20 June 2014 (has links)
Raktiniai žodžiai: profesinis perdegimas, gidas, turizmas. Darbo objektas – profesinio perdegimo sindromas. [toliau žr. visą tekstą] / Object: Syndrome of the job burnout. Aim – to analyze professional burnout syndrome prevalence of guide profession Objectives: 1. To analyze the concept of job burnout syndrome in theoretical terms. 2. To reveal causes of job burnout. 3. To find out criterions which lead/ does not lead to job burnout. The main findings. Job burnout syndrome is defined as the emotional, mental and physical exhaustion state consisting of the three components: emotional exhaustion, depersonalization, and personal professional goals reduction. Job burnout syndrome is influenced by individual factors (socio- demographic), personality characteristics and organizational factors. There are different opinion about individual factors such as gender, age, marital status, level of education and work experience, influence job burnout but it confirms that the different reasons can lead to job burnout in a difference professions. Type of job can have influence only to the first job burnout component - the emotional burnout, in the guide profession. Seniority of 3 to 10 years and more than 10 years does not affect the formation of job burnout syndrome in the guide profession, but work experience less than 3 years can lead to job burnout in the guide profession. An imbalance between job requirements and the salary has no impact on any professional burnout syndrome component. Professional burnout syndrome is not common in the guide profession because it was not found that any of the burnout criteria would... [to full text]

Climate change and buildings in Nigeria : a search for mitigation and adaptation framework for residential design guide

Allu, Evelyn January 2014 (has links)
A sustainable design guide has a huge potential to enhance the sustainability of the built environment. This thesis investigates the potentials of a sustainable residential design guide and develops a framework for its actualization in the three climatic regions in Nigeria. These regions are; Highland Climate Region (HCR), Tropical Savannah (TSC) and the Tropical Rainforest Climate Region (TRC). Given that Nigeria is the seventh most populous country in the world, and most populous in Africa, makes any statistical findings from Nigeria relevant to the rest of the world. This sub-Saharan country is also faced with a huge yearly housing shortage of over ten million units and yet little is known on the efforts and actions taken by Nigeria to ensure that expected new buildings are sustainably designed in line with the global concerns. A concurrent embedded strategy was used in the investigation processes which provided both primary and secondary data sources for this research. Tools for the investigation were; literature review, pilot study, questionnaires and interviews. A Cronbach’s Alpha coefficient value of 0.96 was achieved from the survey instrument used. The questionnaire had 283 participants and a total of 30 interviewees were interviewed. The quantitative data from the questionnaire survey were analysed using SPSS 20 software and the NVivo 10 software was used for the qualitative analysis. Findings suggested that the impacts of climate change are evident and significant across all three regions. However, temperature increase recorded a significant value of more than 0.000 significance (p) level at 0.88 across the three regions, an indication that temperature increase is common to all three climatic regions. On the other hand, flooding, desertification/drought and erosion are more prevalent in the HCR, TSC and TRC respectively. This research’s contributions to knowledge includes; identifying the climatic design parameters for each region and the development of a conceptual framework. Hence, this research is a pioneer study in the subject of climate change and buildings in Nigeria. The thesis concludes that, the framework would promote the production of sustainable residential buildings in Nigeria. Also, areas of future research were suggested to include; the use of New technologies, effective collaborations, policy formulation and testing of the framework.

Daylight operation of a sodium laser guide star for adaptive optics wavefront sensing

Hart, Michael, Jefferies, Stuart M., Murphy, Neil 26 October 2016 (has links)
We report contrast measurements of a sodium resonance guide star against the daylight sky when observed through a tuned magneto-optical filter (MOF). The guide star was created by projection of a laser beam at 589.16 nm into the mesospheric sodium layer and the observations were made with a collocated 1.5-m telescope. While MOFs are used with sodium light detecting and ranging systems during the day to improve the signalto- noise ratio of the measurements, they have not so far been employed with laser guide stars to drive adaptive optics (AO) systems to correct atmospherically induced image blur. We interpret our results in terms of the performance of AO systems for astronomy, with particular emphasis on thermal infrared observations at the next generation of extremely large telescopes now being built. Research, development, and validation of a school leader’s resource guide for positive supports for lesbian, gay, bi-sexual, transgender (LGBT) students in schools

Kuhlmann, Kristen Lee January 1900 (has links)
Doctor of Education / Department of Educational Leadership / David C. Thompson / Teresa Miller / Providing a safe environment for LGBT students can often prove to be a controversial and difficult task, depending on the community of which the school is a part. School leaders need guidance in order to successfully help all students who are bullied. The resource guide imbedded in this dissertation was developed with guiding principles such as key issues, legal responsibilities, obstacles, and existing programs. This guide is meant to provide school leaders with additional comprehensive resources to help them provide support needed specifically for LGBT students. Only through appropriate knowledge and resources can leaders then support these students who need to be protected under basic student rights. Research, Development, and Validation of Paving the way for LGBT Students in Schools: A Road Map for Educational Leaders was developed using the research and development (R & D) methodology by Gall, Borg, and Gall (2007). The seven steps in the R & D cycle included: (1) research analysis, needs assessment, and proof of concept; (2) product planning and design; (3) preliminary product development; (4) preliminary field testing; (5) product revision; (6) main field testing; and (7) the final product revision (Gall, Borg & Gall, 2007). An analysis of the literature, needs assessment questionnaire, and proof of concept results provided information used to develop a prototype. Preliminary field testers using a rating scale and open-ended questions then evaluated the prototype. Revisions were made to the prototype based on their responses. A main field test was conducted with additional experts and final revisions were made based on feedback. Major conclusions of this study included the following: (1) school leaders need more resources to understand how to provide support for LGBT students in schools; (2) this resource guide for school leaders should include legal information, case studies, and vocabulary used with LGBT students; (3) and the R & D process produced a resource guide school leaders can use to understand their rights and responsibilities concerning LGBT Students. The resource guide‘s information includes: (1) key issues related to providing positive support for LGBT students; (2) legal responsibilities and liabilities related to providing protection for LGBT students; (3) obstacles preventing leaders from addressing the issues; and (4) existing research-based practices and field-tested model programs to help school leaders meet the challenges of support in order to provide a quality of education for these students.

A review of KDOT overhead guide sign lighting policy

Gund, Adity January 1900 (has links)
Master of Science / Department of Industrial & Manufacturing Systems Engineering / Malgorzata J. Rys / Before year 2012 the US States must implement and continue using an assessment or management method to maintain traffic signs’ retro-reflectivity at or above the minimum levels adopted by FHWA. Overhead guide signs are a particular problem because past research has shown that with available sheeting types, external illumination may still be necessary. Newer sheeting types and more energy efficient and cost-effective lighting systems are currently available. Over the next several years there is potential for savings of tens of thousands of dollars if the states don’t have to use external illumination for their overhead guide signs, or, if more energy efficient, low cost lighting systems are used when necessary. A detailed literature review was conducted on minimum retro-reflectivity values for overhead guide signs, the legibility distance under reduced sign luminance and the lighting systems available for external illumination. There is no agreement found in the previous research studies as to what is the optimum or minimum luminance of the guide signs. In addition, a survey was sent to all state DOTs. This survey was focused on finding states’ policies regarding the use of sheeting type and external illumination requirement, and methods and lighting systems for maintaining minimum values for overhead guide sign luminance. The total response rate was 56% (28 out of 50 state DOTs responded). Out of 28 respondents 19 said that they have usage policy for the type of sheeting material used for overhead guide signs and 18 of them provided details about their policy. An equipment to control the illumination levels from vehicle headlamps was built and pilot tests were conducted in the laboratory. A pulse-with-modulation dimming circuit designed around the Atmel ARM-based microcontroller board and power MOSFETs was used to control the brightness of the headlights for the high- and low-beams. Field tests were conducted in the later stages during nighttime to evaluate three different types of sheeting materials using 10 human subjects from age group 18-34. The materials DG3 and Type IV were found to perform better than Type I material for nighttime visibility but they were not significantly different from each other.

A case study of how learners apply a Grade 10 study skills module in a mathematics class

Arnold, Feeroezah January 2016 (has links)
Magister Educationis - MEd / A qualitative case study was used to investigate how learners apply a study skills guide during the teaching of mathematics content in a Grade 10 class. A great amount of research and money is continually spent focussing on improving mathematics performance throughout the world. Performance of our learners in South Africa is of concern to the government as well as educators. Researchers agree that many learners lack effective study skills, which is the reason for their poor performance in mathematics. This study intended to infuse study skills in mathematics lessons as an intervention. The study skills intervention sessions were done over a period of 6 weeks. These study skills were infused in topics of the mathematics curriculum which was done in the previous quarter of the school program. Data was collected through interviews, journal entries and a questionnaire. The interviews were done before study skills instruction while the questionnaire was administered after completion of the sessions. Journal entries were completed during the 6 week instruction period by learners. It was found that some learners used the study guide as intended whilst others did not. Furthermore there was improvement in learners' scores for the topics focused on at the end of the study compared to the scores for similar topics in a school-based test written about two months before the intervention. It is concluded that the infusion of study skills in lessons has the potential for improving achievement in high-stakes mathematics examinations.

Guia ilustrado de triatomíneos do Estado de Pernambuco / Illustrated guide of Triatomines of the State of Pernambuco

Menezes, Kelly Reis de 15 February 2019 (has links)
American trypanosomiasis or Chagas\' disease (DC) is one of the biggest public health problems in Latin America. The Northeastern region of Brazil is the most worrisome in relation to the disease due to the great concentration of vectors, which are triatomines, due to the precarious living conditions of people in need in rural areas. The main form of transmission of this disease is the vector, which corresponds to 80% of the cases. The preparation of this guide, which includes photographs, dichotomous keys and descriptions of the triatomine ecotypes, is intended to contribute to the entomological surveillance of these vectors and, consequently, to collaborate with the surveillance of Chagas\' disease that occurs in the five biogeographical regions of that State. Triatominae obtained from Triatominae Insetaria of the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences (UNESP) located in the Campus of Araraquara in April 2017 were used. The specimens were prepared for collection and for registration in the Laboratory of Entomology of the Faculty of Public Health (USP). The updated knowledge of the geographical distribution of Chagas\' disease vectors is important to support integrated actions among health services, which contributes to the entomological surveillance and control of triatomines.

Analyse spectrale des guides d'ondes "twistés" / Twisted Waveguides spectral analysis

Hammedi, Hiba 03 May 2016 (has links)
In this thesis we study the spectral properties of perturbed 3D quantum waveguides (tubes). We mainly consider two types of perturbation:The first type is a geometric perturbation. More precisely, we study the Laplace operator with Dirichlet boundary conditions defined in a twisted tube. The twist that we consider is a constant one that has been locally perturbed by a function of same sign (a repulsive twist). The second type of perturbation is done by changing locally the boundary conditions. In fact, we study the Laplacian operator with Dirichlet conditions everywhere on the boundary of the tube except on a bounded part where we consider the Neumann conditions. In one hand we study the straight tubes (with no geometric perturbations) to figure out the effect of perturbation that occurred in the boundary conditions. In the other hand we study the twisted tubes to establish a comparison between the opposite effects of these two types of perturbation (the geometric one and the change that we imposed on the boundary conditions).

A Performer’s Guide and Structural Analysis of Sergei Taneyev’s Concert Suite for Violin and Orchestra

January 2019 (has links)
abstract: This research paper is a study of Sergei Taneyev’s Concert Suite for Violin and Orchestra, Op. 28 and includes Taneyev’s biography, a brief musical analysis which benefits the interpretation, and performance suggestions from the perspective of a concert violinist. The purpose of this paper is to enable performers to achieve a better understanding of this artwork and make informed musical choices. Sergei Ivanovich Taneyev (1856-1915) was a Russian composer. As a composition pupil of Tchaikovsky, and a teacher of Scriabin, Rachmaninoff, Lyapunov, and Glière, Taneyev is an important figure in Russian music. His compositions include operas, symphonies, chamber music, songs, and piano music. Taneyev’s style was influenced by Bach, Handel, Mozart, Glinka, Tchaikovsky, Wagner and various European composers. His cosmopolitan style, and wide-ranging compositional interests do not easily lend themselves generalization. This difficulty in categorizing his music along with his self-criticism and aversion to self-promotion, contribute to his lack of recognition when compared with his contemporaries. The Concert Suite for Violin and Orchestra, composed six years before his death, is his only work for Violin and Orchestra and was his last large composition. This work is cast in an unusual five-movement structure and embodies various brilliant violin techniques and rich Romantic-era harmonies. Taneyev’s interests in “old fashioned” style and folk music are evidenced by some of the movements titled “Prelude,” “Gavotte,” and “Theme and Variation” which contains a double fugue. He also utilizes folk dances such as the mazurka and tarantella. This performance guide provides practical interpretational advice based on an analysis of harmony, form and structural divisions, stylistic considerations and violin techniques. A brilliant and charming work, it has sadly been neglected. Through the study and performance of this piece, the author hopes to provide performers with useful information that enables more musicians to know and enjoy this valuable masterwork. / Dissertation/Thesis / Doctoral Dissertation Music 2019
