Smart Parking System

Yadavalli, Siri Chandana January 1900 (has links)
Master of Science / Department of Computing and Information Sciences / Daniel A. Andresen / Locating a parking spot during peak hours in most populated areas like shopping malls, universities, exhibitions or convention centers is difficult for the drivers. The difficulty rises from not knowing where the available spots may be at that required time. Smart parking is a solution to metropolitan cities to reduce congestion, cut vehicle emission totals and save persons' time by helping them in finding a spot to park. Smart Parking is a parking system, usually a new one that is equipped with special structured devices (things) to detect the available parking slots at any parking area. This is an application based on Internet of Things (IoT) that in Real-Time environment have sensors and devices embedded into parking spaces, transmitting data on the occupancy status; and the vehicle drivers can search for parking availability using their mobile phones or any infotainment system that is attached to the vehicle. Hence the driver would know where there is an available spot to park his vehicle in less time, reducing the energy consumption and air pollution. The Client or the sensor posts the parking slot occupancy status to a web service URL. The Java based web service is built using Spring and Hibernate to connect to the backend system. The web service (.war) file is deployed on Apache Tomcat Server and the backend used is MySQL database.

A tool for visual analysis of permission-based data access on Android phones / Ett verktyg för visuell analys av privilegiebaserad dataaccess på Androidtelefoner

Magnusson, Ulf January 2019 (has links)
Privacy is a topic of ever-increasing interest in the modern, connected world. With the advent of smart phones, the boundary between internet and the personal sphere has become less distinct. Most users of smart phones have very vague ideas of how various apps intrude on their privacy. At Karlstad University, one of the research groups at the Department of Computer Science is dedicated to research on privacy and protection thereof in general, and one research project is about increasing knowledge of how apps collect personal information about its users. This master thesis is about the development of a visualization tool that processes data collected from Android devices by a surveillance app developed within the aforementioned research project. The app keeps record of the usage of what in Android is termed Dangerous Permissions. The info collected is when such an event occurs, which app has requested the permission, the permission requested as well as the geographical location at the time of the event. Over time, more than 2 million such events has been recorded and collected in this manner. Previously, two student projects have developed different web based tools for visualizing the data collected. With this thesis work, a desktop application was developed; a visualization tool that imports the aforementioned data into a database connected to the tool. The graphical user interface of the visualization tool allows an analyst or scientific researcher to do detailed and fine-grained searches in that database and present the result in various charts, thereby visualizing how the apps ask for information that can be used for identifying and surveying individuals, thereby intruding on their privacy. The visualization tool is carefully designed with the aim for it to be scalable and extendable, through an architecture that allows for continuous development of further visualizations as well as other analysis functionality.

Timelog system on Android OS

Rezaei, Mohammad Ali January 2013 (has links)
Usage of smart phones has become more common nowadays. Timelog system is a user friendly and web based application which systemizes the business of a company with the focus on time tracking. Following the Timelog system from small screen of smart phones is not user-friendly because the Timelog application and its features have not been designed to be accessed from these devices. The solution is creating a smart phone client for the Timelog system which can connect to the database of the system. An appropriate approach is to design a Web Service as an intermediate layer to communicate between the client side and the database. The result is a smart phone client that can be used by users of Timelog system to manage their business when they use their mobiles instead of personal computers. The Web Service can also be used for other smart phone platforms. As a result it can be considered as a generic protocol for the mobile-user of Timelog system.
