Infection with hemosporids has been studied in several parts of the world, as this is considered an important factor in the decline of populations of several species of birds. The present work was carried out at ESEC-Serid?, located in the hinterland of Rio Grande do Norte. Fieldwork was carried out in two seasons, dry and rainy during the years of 2013 and 2014. Mist nets were used to capture birds and blood collection and later laboratory techniques for extraction and amplification of DNA and diagnosis of presence of hemosporids. A total of 779 birds were sampled, comprising nine families and 20 species. A total prevalence of 54% was obtained for the two sampled, with no difference between dry and rainy seasons. Environmental conditions of ESEC-Serid? in the sampled years were favorable for the development of some of the vectors of hemosporidioses. Therefore, both the trophic guild and the environment that the birds frequented had a relation with the infection by hemosporids. In this way, the main objective of this study was to evaluate the prevalence of hemosporids in Caatinga birds present in the Esta??o Ecol?gica do Serid?.
